RE: Upgrade Setups for a Traxxas Slash? RPM vs. Aluminum
I would still go for the slash. I feel there is more room to balance the chassis.

RE: Upgrade Setups for a Traxxas Slash? RPM vs. Aluminum
yes parts are similar, If i get a monster truck most likely i would want 4wd. I like the Raptor Slash for it's uniquenes a more realistic chassis.

RE: Upgrade Setups for a Traxxas Slash? RPM vs. Aluminum
The slash seams most durable cpared to the stampede and others. I wanted a truck style (not monster, buggy or truggy). I would start with a roller, but i feel easing into the hobby with a rtr would be less stressful.

RE: Upgrade Setups for a Traxxas Slash? RPM vs. Aluminum
I rarely race, as tracks are quite a distance around my area. I want to build a really solid basher out of the slash platform. I plan to buy the Raptor platform, im just doing preplanning. Conditions will be your usually offroad material. Nothing extreme.

So you recommend mix and matching parts? i was hoping to be able to buy a strong shock set once the stock ones wear out and avoid ordering small little parts in hopes they would be compatible.

Upgrade Setups for a Traxxas Slash? RPM vs. Aluminum
What are some important upgrades/necessities/tips that a novice like me should know? Based off the Traxxas Slash 2wd chassis. What parts should be RPM and which should be aluminum? AND WHY? I will be mostly bashing, some racing. What are the advantages/disadvantages of each and where should i use them in the chassis? Thanks

RE: Please Help Me Get Started (Offroad)
on a side note, i was also wondering about the balances of all the vehicle chassis. Some might be heavier in places than others, and that would affect my stabilization in jumps and turns.

Please Help Me Get Started (Offroad)
Hi, im considering picking up RC as a hobby once more. I need some advice for choosing a model that i can get started quickly and have years to come upgrading and having fun with. Opinions and criticism is appreciated. Models i was looking at -Losi XXX-SCT -HPI Bullet MT FLUX -ECX Torment - Traxxas Stampede XL-5 - Traxxas Slash 2WD - HPI Blitz -Associated SC10 Please recommend some models that match my requirements, out of your own personal experience. Im looking for - I will mostly bash, but occasionally race as well -All things in mind, i LOVE working on mechanics so im not afraid of upgrade and mod work -I want a realiable model, that performs a little above decent -1/10 scale (more or less) -2WD -Electric -RTR -Truck Style (Monster trucks, SCTs) (No stadium trucks, buggies, etc) -Off road (Enough clearance) -Water proof OR water resist -Metal transmission and parts -Compatible with a large selection of aftermarket parts -I plan to stay away from LiPo Batteries for the start Right now ive narrowed it down to Traxxas Slash XL-5/Ford Raptor- Great due to the success of a great basher with great durability, waterproof electronics, metal gear (lipo ready) trans HPI Blitz-Great with metal gear (lipo ready) trans, more of a racer, waterproof electronics ECX Torment-Entry level, Dynamite Electronics, Similar chassis to the Slash, durable, doesnt have nearly as much perks as the above two, but cheap enough with room for upgrades FEEL FREE TO SUGGEST A NEW OPTION into my consideration Thank you!

RE: Please Help Me Get Started
I really cant make up my mind between the three with Traxxas, HPI, and ECX. HPI and Traxxas are the higher end brands and present more features and perks with their models. Ive heard the ECX Torment is very durable, but in Jang's tests, the Slash came out on top, the Torment lost an axle part. For the cheap price of the Torment, what immediate upgrades should i prioritize? im thinking a full metal gear trans since it has a plastic tranny (compared to HPI and Traxxas full metal Brushless ready trans), aluminum shocks, and some steering upgrades. I worry about the tranny tho.

RE: Please Help Me Get Started
If its suppose to be obvious, im sorry i dont see it. Durability tests on both models are really high in success. I still dont see the edge that the ECX has.

RE: Please Help Me Get Started
Also was lookig at the Associated SC10, a racer purpose SCT vs the Traxxas Slash, a basher purpose SCT. Associated is higher end as well. Im just not diggin the kits ( want RTR ) and the 4wd. So im considering between the HPI Blitz and the Slash.

I havent heard much good about the Losi Strike. Losi as a company seams to be at the lower end of performance and quality.
