Scott, Kasper Holger who was one of the guys behind the DC-10 project is a regular here on RCU. I'm sure he will chime in. I believe his RCU handle is CarbonCustom or something similar.

Yup, just fly what you like and in a flying style that makes you have a good time. That is what it is all about.

Hi Joe, I plan to be at BITW. I've booked my tent and am also an event sponsor, so unless my crazy clients have other plans for me... YES. Florida is good. It's nice to be back after 7 years. Kevin M was out here visiting from PHX last week for a few days of deep sea fishing and lobster diving. Good times. we did not get to go flying... too much fun on the water and it's still a bit too hot for jet flying.

Ron, I hear what you are saying... sorta. If I speak SOLELY for myself, then I have not seen anything EDF that even remotely interests me. I saw the video of the big Concorde from KY jets and wondered why someone would take such a cool airframe and EDF downgrade it. At Top Gun there were a few stunning EDF jets, especially Rei and Tommy's F4's that are absolute masterpieces. But as soon as the hairdryer fires up... It's game over for me. I simply can't get over the horrible sound. While I can sorta see the application in a sports jet where sound really should not matter much, I think the whole scale aspect is totally lost when the plane sits ready for take off with the engine silent at cut off, followed by a headache inducing whine. So, when I am at an event, I will most likely not be spending much time looking at EDF's in flight if there are much more interesting turbine scale models to look at. It's nothing personal. We all have different interests. Nothing wrong with that. You probably can't wait to see the latest and greatest in battery and charger technology and could not care less about those smelly, polluting turbines. But, it should not mean that you and I can't hang out and talk about our common hobby. That's where I think a lot of people go a bit overboard in their perceived "elitist" opinion. I won't hate you for noise polluting if you promise not to hate me for Jet-A polluting :-)

RE: WHY GO EDF IF YOU HAVE TURBINES?
I find it interesting that a lot of people assume that the choice of flying turbine or EDF involves having to decide if they "like" the person flying. That's an immature assumption and one that is the basis for the whole "turbine pilots are elitist" or "EDF pilots thinks they are better" mentality. Fly whatever rocks your boat. But having an opinion about what you personal favorite is... Well, that's just that. Your personal opinion. Letting people know why you came to that conclusion is part of what's called... Having a conversation. For those of you who thinks its a personal attack that someone may feel different about your preference. well, maybe you need to work on being less sensitive, build some self confidence and just enjoy your aspect of the hobby. If anyone feels slighted for not flying a turbine, I can pretty much guarantee that it's all in your own mind. I don't know a single person who looks down on fellow hobbyists for the reason that they don't fly jets.

RE: WHY GO EDF IF YOU HAVE TURBINES?
How do you define "monitoring" to destinguish between operator error or not? Is sitting 3 feet with your eyes on the battery 90% of the time sufficient? Can you go grab a drink in your cooler on the flight line if it takes less than 4 minutes and 22 seconds? I think you will have a hard time to convince me what exactly "monitoring" entails in order to qualify for user error. Charging and noticing the smoke less than 30 seconds after it started seems pretty monitored to me. Anyway... I'm done with EDF so it's hypothetical. Tried it, did not like it.

This was 2 years ago. Whatever the recommended charger and batteries for that particular airframe at that time and following the charging instructions. And no, I did not stand next to the batteries watching them. Another reason not to fly EDF if that's needed. Jet-A does not self ignite if you leave for a few minutes during the fueling process :-)
ORIGINAL: Desertlakesflying I voted something different. Most people don't understand basic economics which keeps prices artificially high. Example: Immediately tearing down anyone new who comes along instead of first making an actual effort to help them build up, thus killing competition and keeping the few with less competition which in turn creates artificially high prices. Another Example: If I have a widget that people want need or desire, and I am the only one that has it, there is no reason to compete. It's amazing many who own turbines do with the prices where they are, since that basic understanding seems to be nonexistent in many of them.
Eh... I think your Widget needs a little bit of debugging before final release.

RE: WHY GO EDF IF YOU HAVE TURBINES?
Well said Scott. Just fly what you like. I also like WW2 warbirds. Personally, if it's not powered by a realistic sounding big radial, I'm not interested. But that does not mean that I dislike people who fly gas two strokes. The lawn mover sound of a beautiful scale model to me is not appealing, just like I think EDF's sounds like Maxwell the pig in the Geico commercials. But... As Scott said. It's a personal preference. If sound is not something that's part of your overall flight enjoyment, then that does not make you a bad person :) Or, less welcome at a jet event for that matter.
ORIGINAL: jetpilot I really didnt think i would be hurting anyones feelings by saying I hate electrics. I didnt say I hate guys who fly electrics. People hate Futuras!! People hate Hawks. I hear it every event. It doesnt hurt my feelings. Im not a ''hater''!! You fly what you like and I fly what I like. It doesnt change my opinion of you personally. I fly for me and noone else as you fly for your own personal enjoyment. My personal experience and feelings are that I do not personally like electrics. People say its boring to watch another Hawk fly. Its not a personal attack. You fly what you want to fly and I will do the same. It doesnt change the way I feel about anyone personally. It doesnt float my boat. thats it. I have seen some electric jets that really wowed me. One time I said a fouga master was goofy looking. Really upset some people!! Im like really? Can a guy not have an opinion that doesnt piss someone off? I fly with electrics every event. Im happy for guys to be there no matter what jet they fly. Its just not what Im interested in. theres just as many trophies for electrics these days at events. This is asking every guy to come no matter what you fly. Sorry if I offended any electric folks out there!! Nothing personal. I like jets and turbines but I ''dont care for'' electrics Scott
I realize the technology is pretty advanced, but I simply can't get excited by the way they sound. The other day there were two identical F-4's at our club field. The electric version was just an oversized foamy in the way it sounded. The turbine version sounded and smelled like a jet.
ORIGINAL: Ricco To everyone Al dosn''t represent the club or this event I do and the club and have nothing against turbines just thought there was a lack of interest the last two years so trying a NEW event otherwise there probably wasn't going to be an event at all. I know this event will be succesful i have a lot of pilots showing up alresdy. i can't believe some of the talk on this thread. Just come out and fly and have some fun . Put all the negative emotions away please. And thank John Redman hope you will make it Thanks John Riccoboni
Hi John, I think everyone here is more than interested in seeing Fresno Jets on the calendar in the future. It was always great times and one of my favorites. The negative posts are all in response to Al who took on the role as spokesperson for the event and did so in a very unprofessional and unpleasant way. Now, since low attendance has been the problem the past two years, it does seem very counter intuitive to put restrictions on the type of planes allowed to fly at your event? I think that is the decision that is being questioned most. From Al's posts it would seem that it's a jealousy problem with expensive planes. I'm glad to hear that he does not represent the general club opinion. Do you think fewer EDF pilots would attend if turbine jets were allowed?  If so, why?

RE: London Olympics are fantastic!!
ORIGINAL: rcjets_63 2) Also during the parade of competitors, as each country was announced, the graphics on the TV showed the country's name, population, number of athletes, name and sport of the flag bearer as well as a graphic of a world map with the country highlighted in blue. All good info. What I found repugnant is that the graphic also had the US highlighted. Does NBC think that the average American is so stupid that they cannot recognize where their own country is on a world map, or it is just always necessary for the US media to link anything international to how it relates back to the United States. Just saying, Jim P.S.: Well done UK, good luck to all participants from all nations. May the event bring out the best in all humanity!!!!! P.P.S: Go Team Canada!!!!
