RE: Australia?
I'd strongly recommend a visit first. I reckon its too much effort lost if you arrive and find you cant make it work here for whatever reason. Come for 2 weeks and check out the jobs scene, see what the average wage is, make some friends, ask lots of questions face to face, get a feel for what things cost here.

RE: Australia?
Most things here are expensive. But that problem will subside somewhat when you start earning AUD. You'll likely pay tax at the highest rate too if Im not mistaken. If you can get work in the WA mines you can get paid a lot more. Its easy to find share accommodation to save money. Otherwise you had better find a hostel for the first few nights and budget for that. go to http://www.aussiehome.com/ to search rentals in Perth and Melbourne. go to http://perth.gumtree.com.au/ for more rentals and sharemates wanted. Choose your city.

RE: tamiya cc01
I like my cc01 pajero but only for the scale looks. I don't think its a particularly fantastic performer. If its overpowered, it will tip over easily and the propeller shaft will break sooner. The rear links are too soft and will sag with age. But it was my first RC so I'll always have a soft spot for it.

I didnt know Associated was associated with LRP Electronics. Anyway, if I had that esc, I'd be happy running 2s through it. It's only 0.2 volts extra.

RE: Are these any good?
Doesnt look too bad for $80. 540 refers to the size of the motor. A very common size for that scale. 12T refers to the number of times the wire is wound around each armature arm. The fewer the turns the higher the RPM or top end. 12T is considered high rpm and current draw and not all speed controllers would be suitable. I would leave in the stock motor until such time the child becomes bored. Just visit a hobby shop and ask them what $20 will buy you in motors. Every shop has different prices and brands.

They look very nice when new but the smallest dings and dents will take care of that. Only good for display purposes in my opinion.

RE: My TT-01 build with LOTS of pictures!
You should build the spare car and sell it to recover (some) costs. Next time you should simply buy the parts and build rather than buy a kit which you eventually didnt use. For example, you can view and print manuals, then it gives you a list of parts used. Then that becomes your shopping list [:D]

RE: What do you think/hope future of RC Cars will be like?
I would hope that batteries in future would charge faster, be less of a fire risk, requires less maintenance, and could be thrown in the regular garbage without toxic crap leaking into the water supply.

RE: beginner question. if you are left handed, how do you use the pistol transmitter
Sorry, I didnt mean to be so blunt. Its just I have never heard of any lefties having problems with pistol transmitters before. Lefties seem to have no problem with stick after all. I have seen a kid hold a pistol grip in his right hand in front of him such that the wheel is facing forward. Then his left hand comes in front and steers.

RE: What do you think/hope future of RC Cars will be like?
Id like to see cars toughened a bit more against dust and water. Traxxas has a waterproof truck. And Tamiya's Sand Scorcher has a cover against sand. But that should be standard for all buggies and trucks in future.

Neaten up long servo wires by winding them around a screwdriver and heating with a hairdryer. Remove the screwdriver and the wires become short and curly like a telephone cord.

RE: now help me fix up this chasis
Try taking out the brushes and cleaning them. Clean the commutator too. Check for wear on those. Brushes could be worn very short. Then give the insides a good spray with motor cleaner. If that doesnt work, you can always buy another motor. They're not expensive.
