RE: Glitch
Also remove and clean the antenna. I just retired a 8UAF as the internal wires from the sticks were breaking right @ the end of the strain relief point. They are glued into a slot and after a lot if trouble shooting found the indivudal strands were broken inside the insulation (work hardening?) The radio has outlived four battery packs. Your has sat so look to the antenna first.

RE: Need Help With 3D Power System
Flew it this summer from mid July to end of Aug. Tried to get out three times a week 2 to 4 flights on that plane and the same on a 40 size Primo running the same speed control on a smaller can (42-60 500KV) with 6S (2x 3S) 2650s or 3000s All up weight ? you can add up the components, I sized it to be in the ball park vs a Saito 100 + fuel, servo, flight battery. It balanced the same as the glow setup originally on the plane. Aimed for 10 min. flight times. never hit cut off so 11 min is possible but total possible flight time is 12 min max by the numbers. Your result will vary. I run light wood props as they keep the AMP draw down but they do tend to shatter on ground strikes. I also find the APC e props in 15"and greater sizes tend to flutter (cavitate?) when you punch the throttle so for me in 3D wood is better. Yes I am running a larger motor than required on both planes but have found @ these power levels the extra mass really helps with heat dissipation which in turn keeps the AMP draw down. (less power lost as heat) You can run smaller cans and push then right to/past the design limits, but those setups do not last.

RE: Kit Built 3D Plane
The Mojo wing is thicker than the Primo so has a lot more drag. both will fly just fine in the wind with the Primo being a bit easyer to land. My Mojo has removable wings and a Saito 91 on the nose, hovers just fine with plenty of left over grunt for pull out. All CA build Primo 40 has been re done from glow to electric. Picked the power system to get the same all up weight. Currently running around 1200 Watts on an APC 15x6 prop 6S battery. On the Primo unless you want a CG set really far back build and cover the wings plus tail parts then test assemble, most find the tail servos need to be moved forward. The Primo will fly fine with the CG @ 5+" back but will drop it's tail when you cut throttle. Some fix this with a switched throttle to elavator mix tied to throttle position. For a "first" 3D 60 size build the Mojo and beat it to death then build a Primo. 3D with the Mojo is slow motion so you have lots of time get things right. With that big thick wing it will fly super slow and still respond well, that will build your skills fast as it now is really easy to get low and close. I am "flashburn" over @ the brotherhood, lurk there a lot, going with an electric Lam Yak for the next build Currently flying Mojo 60 glow Primo 40 electric "Q" Katana, Skeeter 30 and 36, KX2 all electric all sadly currently unobtanium "Spaz" Sabre electric, fave plane right now "3DHS" Sukhoi electric, what the hell was I thinking "least fave plane and the most spendy"

RE: What is a good battery charger to get on the cheap?
I am not a car guy, but have the Turnigy charger from Hobby City. for a 50Watt charger it does a great job up to 4S 2200 MAH (volts x amps = watts) so running around 35 amps to charge that pack. I do not know what size packs car guys use and as there has not been a post covering charging needs. I guess cars are still running 7.2 volt systems? If true a 50W charger will be plenty. I am not a Triton fan as have seen several that false peak on Ni batteries and over charge Lipo's, both very bad. If you are running one the V2's appear better but still will false peak. I live in Canada so shipping for me is 10 days on almost everthing I order so Hong Kong is the same as New York. Get the charger you like as all the listed ones will get the job done, if in the future you need a bigger charger for bigger packs then you will have a ton of stuff to sell (small charger packs car) I like the one listed with the builtin power supply $50.00 is a pretty sharp price for a self contained unit.

RE: How to handle a difficult pilot!
Interesting, Here in Canada our home field is also in a City Park. Our lease with the city includes a provision for MAAC/AMA membership as a condition for flying there. Also as our field is a MAAC sanctioned location our insurance coverage also requires all flyers have current MAAC/AMA coverage. We are required to monitor this and yes if the police had to be called they would escort/remove the person off the property. With possible charges, We do this by requiring all flyers to display club and MAAC cards on the outside of a flight box or attached to the radio case. Most of us use a luggage tag on a bead chain or laminate the cards, The 2.4 thing on a freq control board is a whole other argument, If your location is covered under AMA insurance are not all flyers required to have coverage? If yes best to fix your club charter quick as all club members could be named if a non insured flyer dorks someone and all members would be on the hook for the leagal costs and eventual payout.

RE: 3D Flying Airframe Setups?
Do not spend $ @ this point. You are going to hit the earth a "few" times. Things for 3D Low wing loading (light plane/engine combo) Big Dia low pitch prop Ultra reliable engine with a perfect mid range (no hesitation) Fast precise servo's (run 6V and digital) Radio with mix Huge throws and run expo 60% to start, adjust from there Properly trimmed plane (find a pattern flyer to help you with this) Rear CG (see above) Big clackers and be willing to go low (eye level or better) see first line Flight sim to learn new moves (will help keep the earth from testing your plane as often) see line one Once the Seagull is done get a better plane. My 3D fleet Omp Edge 40 size ARF Swany MoJo 60 Primo 40 Kalteisen Skeeter 30, Skeeter 36, KX2 Value Hobby Sabre 3DH Sukhoi Maxair Velox plus a couple of indoor depron foamys for winter gym flying

RE: 3D TRAINER - PROFILE???
I have the OMP Edge with a 46 it needs a OS55 or a Webra 50 to really come alive, also have a kit built Mojo 60 (yes the wings come off) with a Saito 91 mounted tons of fun and easy to 3D a 100 would just be more iceing on an already fine cake. Also a Primo with a Magnum 52 mounted. That engine is going to be replaced with an OS 55 so have not really been able to wring this plane out but I can say it is very very durable. Lots of low altitude arrivals from the Magnum going rich in the midrange and sagging/gurgling at just the wrong time. Electric is also an option look here http://kalteisen.com/ I have several of Q's balsa planes yet to order a new foam design but my kids are going to get me one for Christmas just need to order it. or this http://www.valuehobby.com/product_details.php?category_id=4&item_id=45 Go with the recomended setup and you will have a kick a## little 3D plane that will keep up as your skills develop. I fly the Sabre a lot, in fact lots of times I bring a Glow ship to fly that never gets out of the car. I might convert the Edge to electric as a test bed next season if time and funds permit. Eric

Try plugging in battery only, will then show battery voltage. check your leads do battery +/- match meter? Try plugging in a flight pack only to the other connection. Then attach power batt. system should reset and start. Website here http://rc-electronics-usa.com/

RE: Prop Safety, NEVER let your guard down. Warning: Bloody picture
Took the nails off the fingers on my left hand 10 years ago playing with the needle valve from behind the prop @ wide open. Hurt more than I care to recall. We see stiches every flying season @ our club, funny it's the old hands all the time. A hint to all when you slice up the inside of an arm or fingers go to emerg and REQUEST the on call Plastics Resident. These guys all know micro surgery and will re attach severed nerve bundles and blood supply. The end result is better. How do I know? 75% 3RD degree burns in an industrial fire. What was not scared from the burns is now scared form grafting again and again......... Now replacing the 25 year old grafts on my legs as they fail with synthetic. So trust me here get a plastics guy for hands and inner arms if you cut your face go to the GP he will leave a nice big scar that will get you dates!!!! All girls love the bad boys Right?

RE: Giant Scale Planes Edge 540 80" problem
You will have to cut down the motor box then reinstall the firewall. Work out how much you need to remove, mark the location for the new firewall before cutting then hack away. Pin and glue the firewall into place and remount your motor. Better to take off a little too much and have to space out the engine. Looking @ the link I would be tempted to add some material into the gear mount area

RE: Is Right Thrust Really Needed For 3D
I fly 3D with right thrust, find on my 2stroke planes I tend to reduce the amount built in or recomended on plans. 4stroke planes all have ended up with more added. I set up for a straight up line without rudder corection so when hovering the tail stays a bit steader when I burp the throttle. You have to like the "feel" so buy some washers and change the thrust settings. There is no right or wrong way just what works for you and your flying style. I do balance all my planes a bit tail heavy and mix out knife edge problems. If you have added mixes they will need adjustment after settling on engine thrust angle.

RE: thinking of mojo
Have a 2 season old Mojo 60 (pre Moass) with a Saito 91 running a 14x4wide APC prop use 5% nitro most days and 35% for fun flys. Built mine with removable wings, The mod does not add much weight and the plane will fit inside my small (Saturn) car so I do not have to beg for the van. I also have a Primo form Paul it's even better but does do things a bit faster than the Mojo. The Moass mod was done by a very good 3D flyer to make the plane "looser" The big wing will still keep you out of trouble but with more tail and fuse area back there the plane will react faster to rudder and ele. The standard tail will still allow you to do pinwheels, waterfalls, rising inverted spins, very tight snaps, scary hard blenders it just looks and feels like slow motion. The Moass is quicker and more "frantic"? to me fly's more like a 40 size. The one pce. is large you will need a pick-up, full size car or van and have a good size area for plane storage. I cut out a cardboard template and tried to fit the one pce plane into my car (no joy) carry from car into house then downstairs to workshop (just made it around corner and down stairs) If you work out of a garage or shed then a totally different deal, for me a one pce just did not work. Very happy with the 3 pce plane. Did use the balsa root ribs from the one pce wing to add sheeting support behind the ply root ribs and drilled through the ply into the balsa and added some bamboo dowels as the bolt tabs tend to pull away over time with some help from contact with Mother Earth. Get a Mojo and sell the Supertiger, It will not have the low throttle control needed to fly 3D. Use the coin from the sale to finance a modern engine purchase.

RE: would a showtime be considered a pattern plane or a 3d plane
Bretd: I guess you are looking for a 3D plane. Forget the Showtime, I have whitnesed a total wing failure during a blender, the wing tube and joiner actually tore upward through the ribs on the Port wing allowing it to flutter down alone inside a shower of broken balsa and covering bits. the balance of the airframe entered a high rate spin that turned into a uncontroled sprial dive. The destruction was almost total including a smashed Saito, two servo's and rec. We think that when the wing left the servo lead yanked the rec. right up to the fuse side tearing out the leads to the tail servos (all ext secured with heat shrink not one let go) The tube inside the Port wing appeared to only have glue on the root and second rib. the Starboard wing had more glue but wing was badly smashed so hard to say how well it was built. If you want to fly true 3D get a profile from here http://www.swanyshouse.com/index.aspx I have the Mojo 60 and the Primo both from kits. 3D animals light but built to take 3D flight stress plus a fair amount of hard ground arrivals. The ARF Mojo comes from the same factory used by OMP and Copperhead Avation. Stay away from the "Big" names for 3D, none of them build a true 3D plane as the mass market would not buy in large enough numbers. If you want to fly gently do big loops and repair your landing gear mount every week get a Showtime. If you want to fly hard and push things every time out get one of Pauls planes.

RE: BEST all out 3D plane around 60" wing span?
Go MoJo for now and keep bugging Paul for the 60" Primo. I have the OMP Fusion, OMP Edge V3, MOJO 60 and Primo. The MOJO will make you look good. Primo will take your new moves and make them look even better. The old OMP planes just hang from the rafters now, gutted to equip the new better toys. My Promo will do a rising upright flat spin. My MOJO will only rise inverted. Both hover, and will fly knife edge slow and fast with ease. My Promo is a little better in Harrier (big tail group) The Mojo better in knife edge loops and spins.

RE: Absolute toughest, indestructable plane
Hi Cloud9: It does sound like more sim time is required. If you are still crashing a Cub then all the low wing planes you are looking @ will last about 3 heartbeats after launch. If you are really determined then get the super zoom or the flash, yes profile planes but once airbrone you will not be able to tell and they will be the most crash resistant as per your thread title. Plus very easy and fast to repair as there is no internal structure. All my sub 72" wingspan planes are profiles both glow and electric, for all out fun without the worry involved in pushing things with a built up big investment plane (time and dollars) profiles are the way to go. Plus when Mother Earth wins they are easy and fast to repair. Good Luck and post back with your choice and how it works out Eric

RE: Any ideas?
I own and fly the following, MoJo, Primo both from Paul Swany plus Edge V3 and Fusion both from OMP. In order of preferance it goes Primo, MoJo, Fusion, Edge. If you can fly all out 3D the Primo is the way to go, just learning go for the MoJo. Both offerings from OMP are great planes just not as nimble/stable. The Fusion is better @ standard aerobatics mine has a really hard time in high alpha flight. Right now the MoJo is available as an ARF along with the Edge and Fusion, the Primo only as a kit. If you build the MoJo can be ordered with a removable wing option in both 40 and 60 size. The Fusion and Edge ARF/kits come standard with removable wings. http://www.swanyshouse.com/index.aspx http://www.ohiomodelplanes.com/ See links and go tear it up! Eric
