Hi there Long time since I have been in here ... but it is purely down to switch location. The throttle hold switch is in a different place. The software though is identical Hope this helps

RE: Epsilon 90 and YS-FZ110
Hi all For those that need a push the epsilon is my favorite and best performing plane. It'll do practically anything you want to given a bit of set up time. With out doubt the right choice of engine is the YS. I started with an OS91FX and it was good ... I then changed to the 110 and yikes its awsome ... stump pulling ... just haven't quite had the confidence to hand launch it but I'm sure it would go[8D] Go for it all and enjoy this is one hell of a good plane. With regards to the YS fitting ... and it does [8D]. If you use the MK beam mout on a standard T bar engine mount it bolts straight in where the 91 came out. I did do a bit of reinforcing with carbon on the back of the firewall but that was all ohh and put the tank on the CoG ... no trim change fantastic ... and you can tell it when you have a 14oz tank in. I'm sure there are many ready to fly 90 size models out there that equate to the epsilon now ... but you can never beat the fealing of having your own creation fly a smooth sequence knowing and understanding what keeps it there. Happy new year all

RE: What did we all think of Sandown??
I know I'm going to be shot down in flames for this but I feel it needs to said. I did enjoy myself and thought some of the flying was good I did however think it lacked in variety. I understand that a rolling harrier is difficult to do but once you have the timing sorted it isnt that hard. The likes of Cristophe and Hanno pretner are greatly missed for the skilled flying as you could never predict what was going to happen next. After all Hanno did do the first knife edge spin (Hanno screw). The only flying that gave me a feel of wow was Ali's gorgeous Hawk and the young lad with the heli (I think he was 17) he manged to do the most stable prolonged chaos I have seen I'm sure well be seing him at the 3d masters some time soon!?!?!? Ali's Hawk was the most realistic jet flight I have seen super smooth and the whole flight seemed to have presence in the air with precision and had the magic essence that a well displayed pretty model deserves. If you get to read this Ali thankyou for the best flying of the day. Come on though guys mix up your freestyle!! show us you raw skill with a beautiful 1 roll loop followed by a rolling circle with opposite snaps in it INSPIRE us to go try this at home! I remeber the first time I went to this show I spent the next 3 months practicing and trying the manouvers that I saw ... this year I have only been inspired to buy a jet ... like that could ever happen .... maybe if I win the lottery I could go for one and try to perfect the presence that Ali managed. ... the deals .....WHAT deals .... this always used to be the show you started the year with ... not now!!! It seemed the only stands prepared to do a Sandown deal and give you the feeling that you caught a bargain was Inwoods and Overlander. As others have said this is now not a show for the punters to get deals ... just a place for the big mail order companies to sell at there normal prices and the big traders to show off there stands! So all in all I am dissapointed and sad that this show that used to be THE PLACE to go to be inspired and catch a deal has not given me value for money. Heres a thought Do you think the ARTF market has alot to answer for? I only found a couple of stands selling kits for the real die hard modeler/kit builder?

Mattyd I was wandering when someone would clock the light weight of this model and try an E setup?? Looking at all the other conversions I have seen, the Extreme Flight Yak setup would be spot, as per the review on here, on as these two models are very similar in weight and performance. Good luck with it and keep us updated! 3Duk!

AdrianM Tank was a tetra 400cc and I cut the ply centre away rearwards of the lightening holes so the back of the tank was just in front of the rudder / elevator servo. Tight fit but worth it! Couple of pics worth a 1000 words here you go .... oh and the engine pic you asked for! I think the time has come to de winterise the Epsilon and have some fun .... if the weather holds I will fly it tonight. Forgot to add I put in the extra piece of ply below the tank to replace some of the strength I had removed from the tank cut out ... 2 benifits holds the tank in nicely as well!

RE: New CA models Epsilon build (easy as pie)
AdrianM I havent tried a 14x6 however I have tried a 13x7 as I wanted to see what it would be like if I let the OS really rev as the quoted max HP is at 15000 rpm which is where the 13x7 revved it was well loud but hey just 1 test! It did pull well but it seemed to run out of puff low down where you really need the power ... when will engine manufacturers ever publish torque curves so we can prop to how we want the plane to feel To be honest the best combination which I curenlty have on my Seagull Harrier is the Blue OS hatori pipe set long with a 15x6 as this hits the tourque curve smack on. Its pulling about 10k and pulls the harrier (8lbs 6ozs dry) out of the hover ... not like a rocket but with enough authority to give you confidence. I must say the YS is the only engine in this class that has the right power in the right place at the right time .... it simply can not be surpassed (excuse the pun) Good luck with the evo 100 I have been intregued by this engine but scared by the sc / asp type of carb. Please let us a know how you get on with it How are the other pilots out there getting on with there Epsilons 3DUK

Timbba YS fits real easy its tight but you can make it fit realy neatly.... just take you time ...mine is about 5 mm clear if the firewall. As my signiture say proximity is fine as long as it doesn't touch!! (Obviusly alowing a small amount for vibes) It's lovely to see this thread back up there again ... I just wish the weather would clear up a bit here so I can go play with the best flying plane I have ever owned .... this year its time to push it 3d style first mad blenders here we come!!!

Other than that does the book and some basic 3D as well ... all I might add on a decent engine as it is quite heavy ... 8lbs12oz with a ys110 Pipe a 90 on this and it is a great pattern plane ... from everyone I have spoken to for pattern let it fly fast ENJOY!!! Het typhoon 15/10 set up please help!!
Everyone I currently have a typhoon 15/10 that was in a much smaller model but I now need to push it to the limit as I am scratch building a balsa 3d model. Rough plan is:- 36" span 30" long approx weight for airframe inc all radio without battery 400g castle creations 25 spedo battery weight 3s2p 1250 lithiums 165g So total weight 565g I am concerned as I have been told to keep these cells below 18amps and all the figures I look at tell me I need to be pulling about 22 amps for 700gm plus of thrust. What prop would you put on this set up as I currently have all the other hardware sorted? Would you push these cells that far ie above 20 amps? Thanks in advance for your input.

Dave thanks for your on going support The "Nuts" i meant are the prop nuts. Same brand and type, but a differnt can of fuel. Why is it possible to overspeed / rev the engine on a 15x8? What about a 14x10 or 14x12? These are the recomended props for pattern over here. What would you personally run on this engine for both 3d? and pattern? Thanks in advance again

YS110 conrod disintigration
Please please help. I am posting on behalf of a friend ... however I am desperately concerned as I have a 110 in an Epsilon ... just starting to 3D it so don't want the same to happen to me. The history is that my friend has broken 2 con rods now and both have been while flying. (first time just after take off....second time up high while flying a schedule...hence luck and saved plane both times) He is using model technics 20/20 yamada fuel a 16x6 apc or a 15x8 apc and flys quite alot, about a gallon a month through this engine. In fairness the supplier has been fab and looked after him well both times. We both start as per your recommendation ... ie spin for 10 secs on starter full throttle .... ignite glow and then hit again with the starter. My questions are Has any one heard of this before? Is it something we are doing wrong? I see some people run coolpwer30 through this engine so surely we are safe with the model technics? Both times the con rod has broken the engine has been on a hyde mount ..... should we use a nose ring or hard mount the engine? Mank thanks in advance for your time

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!! I have used adjustable mounts but do not find them reliable ... they seem to move ...for me! I have found the best way to play with thrust is by using approx 1mm thick washers. Just put them behind the engine mount in the right place and fly!! If you need more you can with practice change this at the field. Once you have got it spot on to your prefered taste make up a wooden wedge / spacer as El Tumi has. Above all JVB enjoy this model is definately the best I have flown!

RE: New CA models Epsilon build (easy as pie)
With all you guys questioning the right thrust down thrust issue I thought I would drop in and update what my thrust angles are! If you are running a 14x8 APC then without doubt match up the spinner to the cowl without any mods .... puuurfet uplines and downthrust spot on .... however this is a pattern setup! Through all the incarnations of my epsilon the best so far without doubt is YS110 and an APC 15x8 with about a degree less right thrust and the same downthrust. This combo has a better mix of 3D and Pattern ... considerably more vertical urgency[:D][8D][:D] I have tried a 15x6APC on the OS91FX good and will pull out of a hover nicely but still no where near as good as the YS 15x8 combo (Home sick Angel!!) For all concerned building this plane I would say start with the angles on the cowl and then move away from this to set it up as per your taste ..... to quote a n other in another thread "There are as many ways of seeting up a plane as there are people flying them"

Ok guys I have succumbed should be here Thursday. I need to ask though which engine to go for. limited to a choice of 2 OS 91 FX would go for a 15x6 @9500 rpm ASP 108 would go for a 15x8 / 16x4 @ approx 10,000rpm Troble in the back of my mind is the weight OS91 about 650g with pipe ASP about 850g with pipe 200grams = about 8oz thats 1/2 a pound .... is it really worth it??

RE: New CA models Epsilon build (easy as pie)
Schpankme Where did you get that cool little chart from? Could be very useful for other engines!! I have tried a multitude of props on the 91 fx and the best feel was the 14x8 apc with out doubt. I tried a 15x8 a 15x6 a 13x10 a 14x10 and this is how I felt:- 15x8 ok but reduced the revs by too much 15x6 good infact very good and an ideal 3d prop only thing I would change is maybee try to source a narrow blade version to allow it to spool up quicker. 13x10 very good for windy conditions but you must keep the speed on or else it takes a while to get going Anybodey notice a thene here??? 14x10 reduced the revs by way to much .. once wound up it was ok but if you let it slow down at all a dive is the only way to release the pwoer back into the prop. Now then the 110 14x10 awsome good for pattern keeps the speed on but not to good for grunt 14x12 good but only on windy days as it seems to stress the engine (Yes it can be done!) 15x6 good but too revy and seems to loose power as its to busy reving 15x8 Awsome current prop I use for pattern and 3D as the right thrust and down thrust is spot on for this prop 16x8 master airscrew (old test prop) tooo much, might be ok in an apc especially narrow. All of the above props are apc with the exception of the 16x8 wich is a horrible old that I just tried to test the engine. And as I have said above the 110 seems to just pull from everywhere where as the os had to be reved to keep it in the power. I like your analogy acroman "Stump puller"... may be YS should use it in there advertising!! Please this is only my opinion. Having tried both engines in the same model I am only going from my experience. If some one out there can help me get my OS pulling as well I will be very happy as it is collecting dust at the moment and it seems such a waste for such a great little engine!

RE: New CA models Epsilon build (easy as pie)
tph1 The difference is difficult to explain properly but the best way is grunt ... bit like having a lazy V8 that pulls from anywhere where as the OS is like a japanese bike engine .. .. awsome power but you have to wind it up. The grunt comes into its own after snaps and rolls on uplines where as with the 91 fx you need to keep the engine wound up with the YS you just blip the throttle and power pulls you through!

Foof No pipe just the supplied liitle dustbin .... tank on CG and no extra weight on the tail having removed the OS. There is room for a pipe but only just ... I suspect you will have 1/2 the pipe showing ... more tunnled in rather than cowled!! To be honest you realy dont need to go down the expesive route of pipe manifold etc K.I.S.S. theory for me!! Can I ask where you got your kit from?

RE: New CA models Epsilon build (easy as pie)
Foof The 91FX is enough for this plane for hovering and smooth pattern however .. .. if you do a snap in an upline you will find the speed just totally gone and the 91fx struggles to pull the plane through. This is why I went to the YS110[:D] I can only assume that the 110 developes power in a different way as in a direct comparison the 91fx was pulling 9800rpm on an APC 14x8 where as the ys pulled 10,000 on an apc 15x8. On the economy thing so far I have used less fuel per 15 minute flight with the ys 14oz tank then i have with the OS 8 minutes to a 12oz tank. This I guess is again down to the way the YS produces power. I guess if you put a pipe on a 91fx you would be very very close to the out right power of the YS but there is no way you would have the grunt and throttle authority you have with the YS. So Foof i guess thats the long answer to your question yes the OS is good .. .. .. .. .. but the YS is just bl***y awsome!![:D][:D] [sm=sunsmiley.gif][:D][:D]
