Those look real nice, Are they dimensionally about the same? Where did you get them?
ORIGINAL: jrjohn
ORIGINAL: Maudib The stock gear is painted aluminum... looks nice... weighs 12.65 oz JR John is looking into finding some REALLY light CF gear... but he's not sure it will work yet... I did happen to have a set of CF gear from Graphtech RC that I got for a 102" Quique Yak... Guess what? It's almost IDENTICAL in size and shape! Guess that tells ya how BIG and sclae this bad boy is 88" having 102" gear :) THe GRaphtec gear are 10.6 oz so there's only a 2 oz savings... I suppose they don't have to be that "thick" because they are holding up an 18.5 lb plane (max) while the QQ 102 is like 25-26 lbs...
Here is the gear that will be on my 88" Yak. 6.6 OZ and without a doubt the best built, most stock looking gear I have ever seen. It's even airfoiled. They ain't cheap! Mine will be painted white as I'm getting the red and white plane. I suppose you guys with the black planes would just leave it black john
RE: Extreme Flight 88" Yak - Build and Fly
Dave, Looks Great, good info on the hinging! I took some time off today and picked mine up (Ylw/Blk) as I only live 2hrs away. After missing out on the original I was determined to get one of these, unfortunately I'm so busy with our business' at the moment I won't get much time to play with it for a while. Saw both the Ylw/Blk and the Wht/Red ones Chris has finished in the shop. WOW! These things are Huge, until you see one you won't believe it, it truely looks like a 33-35% plane. Both planes are absolutely beautiful. I think The Wht/Red looks alot nicer in Person and the Ylw/Blk is awesome. I'm starting off with a DA-50 on mine and will go from there [:D] I need to get out and do some flying before flying something this nice, nothing like showing up with something like this and not being able to fly it like it should be flown! My screen name should be 3D wannabe Aviator. If anybody reading this is on the fence about getting one of these I would call and get one ordered before you miss out.

RE: EXTREME FLIGHT RC 88 inch YAK-54/Brillelli 366GT Build thread
I'm not concerned about the proop slipping on this engine... the thrust washer is knurled and there's plenty of surface area... I'll use the sandpaper washers if my spinner of choice doesn't have knurling... Now on a big ol' 100cc+ engine I might be more inclined to want something more... but not here... Ahh good pt, the one I had trouble with was a 105 twin. Sandpaper washers? Do you make them up or does someone sell them? Do they run True? Learn something new everyday.

RE: EXTREME FLIGHT RC 88 inch YAK-54/Brillelli 366GT Build thread
ORIGINAL: Maudib Quick interuption... Those wondering about stock muffler options... the DA50 muffler will fit with just a littl modifying: I checked the bolt hole pattern... the 60's holes are actually a little closer together... thus you have to file the DA50 bolt holes inward to accomodate the screws... The bolts are also 1/4" vs the (10/32 I think?) ont he DA head... So armed with a rattail file, 5 minutes and a couple drill bits.... TADA!!!!! A perfect fit! I first filed the holes closer together, then ran a 15/64 bit through the holes... followed by the 1/4"... a little extra filing to take the edge off the holes and VIOLA... Instant (well almost instant) stock DA50 muffler on the Brillelli 60... and it can still be used with the DA50... just drop a small washer on the 10/32 bolts... I have cut the stack pipe shorter on this one (might be TOO short for a 12" cowl!) and it's 4.25 oz without bolts... But all up weight... engine, igntiion muffler, standoffs: TADA: 67.2 oz
Looks good (and easy). Are the openings in the muffler and exhaust port the same size and shape? Someone else also mentioned as I did before about the prop moving on the shaft once installed, I saw somewhere recently where someone with a BME just drilled and tapped the backplate and put in two small capscrews, that would probably work better than rollpins and be lighter if you used alum screws. Interested to see how this engine compares to the DA, I may have a DA for sale[:D]

Good info on the canister vs pipe vs stock pipe. sounds like if somebody made the 1060 in carbon it would be the hot ticket. How does the carbon hold up to the heat? Anybody make any ti headers or cans? It's all the rage on the sportbikes I work on, it's amazing how light and strong the ti tubing is. flat spin: I wasn't allowed any new planes or flying when my house looked like that, better get busy [:D]

RE: Extreme Flight 88" - First Photos! Build and Discussion
Desicions, Decisions. This is gonna be a great plane, just not sure what mtr to use. I'm thinking DA 50 w/carbon pipe or MVVS 58 also on carbon pipe . I do like the idea of the bigger light 80's on a three blade but it sounds like the cylinder would stick out of the cowl, I can't have that. I'm not crazy about the Birelli because of the prop hub with the single nut, I had that on my by BME and it was a hassle, I ended up putting opposed roll pins in the hub that located into the prop to keep it from spinning all the time. As far as all the debate about weight I think if you look at actual wing loading of this plane compared to others this should fly very light.

RE: Lanier Yak
What didn't you like about the specs? I downloaded the manual at their site and they said they used a DA 50 in it. I see in MA the weight is 16.5-18lb but tower hobbies has it at 16.5 - 17. seems like if it was kept to 16-16.5 it should have a pretty good wing loading and the DA 50 should be fine, no?
ORIGINAL: Fletch124 I saw some pics of it in Model Aviation and it looks awesome. But by the specs that i saw it doesn't look very good.
RE: WHICH YAK WOULD YOU BUY
PW, looks great. does the engine stick out the bottom of the cowl? I was surprised to see some pics of the QQ with the DA that it stuck out as compared to the EF that didn't. I'd be interested to know how much yours ends up weighing and how it performs. I see it has approx the same wing area as the EF and QQ but quite a bit shorter WS yet the fuse looks bigger. additional pics would be great.
ORIGINAL: propwashed This is the Aviation Aircraft (formerllyTOC) 30% I just purchased. you can see the cannister tunnel under the firewall that flynrazrback mentioned about. RE: BME 100 Help
Kris, thanks for the reply. I don't have any gas engine(model) exp but it looked like it was pressed on and I thought to myself that this would be allot better setup with a taper (as you say da and 3w have). I realize the hub is alum and by the way the crank only goes about halfway into it I could see how it may be damaged as well. it runs out about .015 tir out near the prop end and only about .005 near the bearing end. I'll make up what I need to pull it off and see what's what. Never say never as far as straightening goes, just depends on how bad it is once I get it apart. Pt integrity shouldn't be an issue. Of course BME is going to discard and replace but I think it's a matter of not being worth their time vs selling you a new one. worst case scenario I'll have to buy some pts from BME. This is an older mtr so I'm not too worried about a warranty.

Thanks for all the replys
I finally got thru to Keith at BME and he said based on the numbers I told him the crank is definitely bent. (twisted and bent probably according to him) He said it should be no more than .002 tir out by the prop. BTW, this is the 2 bearing engine with a long prop hub. Cost to fix: Send complete engine to BME, $250 to "straighten" . Do it yourself $175 for new crank + gaskets etc. Upgrade to 102: includes new cases(3 bearing), new longerstroke crank, hone clyinders, new rings, gaskets etc. $450 It looks like the guy I got it from is going to do the right thing and pay the $250 to have it fixed. When in doubt use a wood prop. less chance of damage! Thanks again for all the input. Rick

Thanks for the responses. that makes perfect sense about the "twisting" or turning on the pins. I'm used to working on 4-stroke motorcycle engines that have solid cranks and use split con-rods. JLB, when you "straightened" the cranks did you chuck on the back end of the crank and then tap the counterweights(with chuck locked) to get frontshaft and backshaft to the same ctr? I've never had a twin apart so I'm not quite sure what the crank arrangement is. Sounds like worst case senario I will ruin the crank and have to buy a new one anyway. My hope is that the guy I bought it from will pay to have it fixed or maybe split the cost of the upgrade? Any idea how much a crank for this engine might be?

I'm sure its possible. I have a press and a lathe. The only problem I have with doing this is that I paid for a "good" engine and don't feel I should go to the trouble and expense of fixing it myself. I wouldn't even attempt it without the crank out of the engine though. We'll see. Since I found the problem the guy I bought it from hasn't returned my e-mail and BME isn't answering the phone. Thanks, Rick

Thanks for the reply. Yes that would definately be another way to see if it's bent without the need for an indicator. Although with the motor still mounted in the plane it's hard to turn it over with-out something moving which is why I mounted the indicator directly to the engine. I wanted to see how far out it was so when (if) I get through to BME he may be able to tell me based on past experience if he can straighten it or not. Thanks, Rick

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I checked the face of the hub also. because of the serrated face I bolted my degree wheel to it (7" dia) and at the outside it's out at least .050 or more ( I didn't bother to actually indicate it) but thats at 7" I can only imagine what it's at @ the tip of a 26" prop. Still no answer at BME.

Thanks for the reply. This engine is used and is already broke in as it was used before it went into the cap. I haven't tried leaning it out on the low speed yet but I can't believe that the amount of crank runout I measured is factory or acceptable. I think .002 tir would be bad enough let alone .020. With everyone using CNC equipment they should be to hold this to .001 tir or better easily. I need to fix it or get my money back so holding out for the new motor isn't an option. What is included in the upgrade? Is that price just the parts or is that the price sent to BME. I wish BME would answer the phone. Thanks again. Rick

BME 100: Shake maker
I just bought a used 1/3 H9 Cap with this engine. It shakes terribly. I checked prop and spinner bal. and they are good. I tried calling Bme this morning a couple of times but no answer. anyone had one of these cranks straightened or replaced? If so what was the cost. Anyone updated one of these motors? Thanks, Rick.

H9 25% CAP232 Motor...
I say I would go with the 2.10 because my plane is a little on the heavy side. 14 lbs. and has pretty much unlimited vertical but your basically near wot to torque roll or hover with not much left to climb out with. BUT, I only have about 2 gal thru mine so it's probably not up to full power. I've only tried 18-8 props also. mine was one of the all white version supposedly beefed up over the original Matt Chapman version. Things I did that added weight were: reinforced firewall and used aluminum plates behind firewall to keep it from flexing too much, Klett tail wheel, 18 oz tank , Bisson pitts muffler, 3.5" wheels, 1700mah nicad, 2oz on tail to bal. As far as fuel consumption goes it depends on how you fly. It's 2.2 oz min at full throttle. At least the fuel is cheap. 0-5% is all you need, any more and your just wasting $. The 2.10 only weighs 110 grams more but has .85 more hp. Frank Tiano has the 2.10 for $294 .

I have the H-9 Cap w/ Moki 1.8 because the dlr had it in stock cheap. If not I would have gone with the 2.10. Same size dimensionally a few bucks more with an extra .5hp. I also put in a 18oz tank. these big Moki's are thirsty!
