East Coast Pattern Championships
September is on its way and along with September comes the East Coast Pattern Championships. This is a District Two contest with all other districts invited to attend. This year the contest will be held Sept 15th and 16th at the Fredricksburg Area RC Club, located in Thornburg, Va. just off I-95 in the Northern Va. area. This is the same location the event was held at last year. For anyone that did not attend last year please refer to the Fredericksburg Area RC CLub website for location, directions to the field, lodging and dining. (All of which are very close by) This is a great field with two separate runways back to back so sun is not a problem. Lunch will be served by the supporting club. Plenty of parking, shade and electrical outlets. Prizes through third place, pilots meeting at 9:00 AM and entry fee of $30.00. Sponsored by NVRC and F3A Unlimited. I look forward to seeing lots of new pilots. Larry KauffmanCD For additional information please PM.

RE: New Composite F3A.
Chris, I built the one Chris is using to demo. The elevators come set up for servos in each half. Even has a jig that comes with the kit to get the correct opening size in the elevator for the servo arm. A lot of thought went into the building of the plane. Wing and stab covering is done very well. No wrinkles. Larry D2 VP NSRCA

RE: Future of AMA Advanced Class
I am currently flying the Advance class and in time hope to move to Masters. I am concerned though that Masters will be above my abilities. The current Masters sequence with practice (Alot of practice) would be something I could handle and fly with success. By that I mean to hopefully finish in the middle with a little luck. If the Masters sequence becomes significantly harder I foresee myself remaining in Advance. Does this mean other flyers currently flying Advance may also do the same if Masters becomes simply too hard to move into? Moving to Masters, facing the immense talent that exists and trying to learn even more complex manuevers is indeed a challenge. Please understand I expect to see and fly more involved manevers but how involved do we allow Masters to become? The steps between each class should be constructed to allow a good pilot do migrate through (with practice) the classes and enjoy those steps. The two classes in some way must work together. With that said I do believe Advance class should be constructed to prepare the Advance pilot for what lies ahead. The Advance pattern will need to change often to maintain a challenging sequence that prepares the flyer for the move up while not allowing boredom to set in. In turn the Masters Class needs to be kept at a reachable level if we are to have a continued migration of new pilots into Masters.

RE: Fredericksburg, VA pattern contest 17-18 Sept
Jeff, The field has several power outlets stationed along the main field. (Front Field) There are plenty of shaded areas and tables for eating/etc. I flew the front field yesterday and found it to be great! The back field is also in good shape and will more than support pattern. I believe everyone will be impressed with the facilities. I say again the club is more than supportive in its efforts. By the way weather for the area looks to be great. Cooler on Friday with Saturday and Sunday to be in the 70's with mild wind conditions. From what I see now, we can expect to have the wind what of it there is down the runway. See ya there!

If you do decide to move to Virginia, do let me know. (Contact information can be found on the NSRCA web site.) I'll will be glad to give you a hand in finding a pattern friendly club. Just a note to confirm everything is ready for the Fredericksburg Contest. I'm hoping to see some new faces at this contest. Don't forget this is the D2 finals for 2011. Awards are ready to be given out. You could be a winner of a new ARF. I want to thank Chris Moon for his support. Let's make this a event we all remember. Field will be open Friday all day for practice except for early morning field setup. You will be able to register throughout the day on Friday. RE: Visa landing gear
Thanks everyone for the help. I have used the same methods but this gear actually has a hollow void in the area where the gear exits the fuse and becomes wider. I really don't trust it. The CA did help put until I can fill the void I don't want to take the chance and end up having to complete fill work on the bottome of the wings. Larry

Recent theft of Pattern airplanes and equipment
Thought I should put a notice out to inform everyone of stolen pattern airplanes and equipment taken over the weekend while attending D1/D2 contest in St Mary's county in Maryland. ( Planes stolen were a Addiction and a Sickle. Both color schemes are the standard ARF schemes. Charging stations, support equipment and Futaba radios where also taken. Planes were powered with a Hi-max (Sickle) and the Addiction was powered by a Plenty 30-10. I realize we will probably not see the planes and equipment again but should anyone be approached by someone attempting to sell equipment that meets the above description please report the incident. Thanks to everyone that came to the contest. Enjoyed having everyone. I agree turn-out was lower than prior years. Seems in most cases family emergencies, work or health problems kept pilots from attending. I enjoyed seeing eveyone and hope to see you all again next year or should I say in the Fall. Say where is that Mark Carey. I heard from a little bird he just flew the Advance Sequence for the first time. Mark you better show up at the next contest to protect your good name.
