RE: NEW Hangar 9 Katana 50
I am planning on using the E Flite 52 and go with EP. I will also use a 6s 5000 and should do the trick. It is a very nice and clean looking kit and as stated by H9 gone on a diet and made lighter then similar verssions.

New Spektrum Sub Micro Servos
I was wondering around my LHS and found some new Spektrum sub micro servos; I wanted something for my New Power Fury. I compared these to a HS-65HB, they weighed less, almost a mirror on torque so I asked about the servos. I ended up buy 4 servos, 2 each A3030 Sub-Micro Digital High Torque Aircraft Servo and 2 each A3010 Sub-Micro Digital High-Speed Aircraft Servo. I was at the point of the build to install the servos, I centered the servos by plugging them into the receiver, all seem good and I selected the best servo horn that aligned to 90 degrees. After I completed the servos wiring and everything was ready for powering up the model and adjusting the radio settings. Everything worked great, servos, esc and receiver. So I started applying up and down and right and left going through and watching the servos. Then I realized I had problems.............When any of the servos moved slowly they would jitter at various points of the movement. All 4 servos seemed to be going whacky and would sometimes jitter while moving. I didn’t know what to think, so I replaced my Receiver, no change, I replaced my ESC, no changed, I tried a different battery, no change, I tried an ESC and receiver from another model, no change. All 4 of the servos would do this jitter thing. So when moving the transmitter sticks slowly at some point the servo arm would go crazy and just bounce back and forth. I took everything to my LHS where I purchased these servos; they had never seen anything like that before. They said maybe it’s my radio; I laughed and said no way. I just finished flying all morning and 5 different planes. Has anyone experienced or used these servos????????

I have been flying my Erarix for over 2 years and never had a problem with the landing gear, the plane lands so easy and smooth. But as with most E Flite Models, the landing gear needs to be re inforced, I have added more tuffness to all my E Flite models.

RE: ProBoat Stiletto Tunnel Hull !!
I purchased the Stiletto yesterday, very nice looking. I will run these with Turnigy nano-tech 5000mah 2S in series. I wasnt prepared for the "sealed battery compartment" I guess it will work but not what I expected. I noticed the pull pull stearing cables are very close to the battery compartment cover, even touches the cover. Not a good idea and I say its a bad design. I plan on placing some tape where the cables rub on the cover to prevent the cable from diggin into the cover. I hope to get this trimmed out and have some fun.

I may try this, just not sure what to expect. Its in the middle compared to other power setups so I may be OK. Now I am stuck between Ep and the Saito.

The Eratix is one of my favorites to fly. Like you said it seems to almost fly itself. Very easy to land and performs so many maneuvers making me look good. I will admit it’s the plane and a little bit of pilot I normally fly mine with 2x2200 3S in parallel and when I feel like I need more power I throw a 4S 3200 in and fly it like a maniac.

You were using 5S, holly cow!!!!! So with the added weight did you notice it was too heavy? Was it hard to control? I am thinking of going from my 2200 3S to a 3200 4S at 14oz. The 3s gives me enough power to do anything except 3D is not as extreme. Sorry about your hitting the ground, I have done that and it just brings me down. I did get 3 more flights in this morning on the Edge. I think I am starting to like this plane.

This is normal and need with all EP/Nitro. Remember brushless motors are very strong and when you swing a prop like the eratix requires it will cuase thrust and having the correct angel will offset this thrust. Good luck on your build, I know you wont be disappointed with the Eratix, its a monster.

RE: Great Planes Edge 540T
2 flights and I am still shaking[:D] The plane is great. It is different and I never expected these flight characteristics. I was thinking because of its size it would not float like it does. It only takes a little to roll; I need to re-look my Aile Expo. I was scared op use the recommended elevator low rates, only a half inch. After seeing this dialed in I was like no way. Well I set everything for as much as I can. That is normally what I do on everything. This plane fly’s great and will turn on a dime. I am using 2200 3S and I flew for 3 minutes. I had 70% power left when I landed. I say not problem getting 6 minutes of easy flying. I added 3 clicks to my aile, and without that the plane rolled like it was at full left. Soft easy movements are what make this plane fly well. Yank the stick and get ready for corrections.

RE: Great Planes Edge 540T
I used a plastic drywall insert, sometimes called an E-Z Anchor, [image]http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y145/50mph/EZAnchor.jpg[/image] and on the 540T and Eratix I used a drywall screw, most hardware stores carry these. On the planes hanging from the ceiling I used a swivel clip used for fishing gear. Yes they are hanging by the landing gear. Just make sure what ever you do, the plane weight will support your screw and choose a good string that won’t break. As for hanging planes, my wife allows me this room. I do have some other planes not shown here on a ledge that overhangs our main entrance. They are tucked away enough that she doesn’t get to upset. After all, the worse place is the garage during the winter months. Thanks for your hanger comments.

RE: Great Planes Edge 540T
Nice choice on the DX7SE. Well I am the same way. I fly a TREX450 and all my planes are on a 3S setup. I have not flown mine yet, but after reading all the posts I believe it will do just fine. If this is your first plane I would only recommend that you get some SIM time in. Make sure you are on low rates and take your time and hopefully you have an experienced pilot that can help trim it out and help you if you are having trouble flying. From all the reports on flying this plane it seems to be a good gentle and stable flyer at lower speeds. You won’t need full throttle to take off and fly around. Keep us updated on your progress and your flight. You could use any receiver to get your servos centered for your install. You will only need the radio setup when you adjust your trims and throws. Also since I have built mine there are a few ideas/changes or suggestions. 1. Make sure you check your entire fuselage for cracks/breaks, check every brace. I only had one area that needed to be straightened and glued. 2. Great Planes Silver Series SS-45A Brushless ESC – The receiver throttle cable isn’t long enough to reach the receiver. Unless you plan on placing your receiver under the battery tray, get a 3-6 inch extension. 3. Tail Wheel. The hub for the Tail Wheel is larger than the gear wire. Sorry I don’t know the diameter for the wire and the hub. Not that this is a big deal, but over time the foam wheel will wear faster because of looseness. 4. Page 9 of the manual, Step 2. Insert the tail gear wire through the aluminum tail gear bracket. Make sure you place the 2.5mm wheel collar before you mark and drill a 1/16" [1.6mm] pilot hole at both tail gear bracket mounting. Hard to explain, I think the manual should reflect this change so when the wholes are marked they line up better. When I did this as the sequence in the manual states, I ended up with the wheel collar binding just a little against the gear bracket. 5. The Stab and Elevator hinge wholes. They were not aligned to well horizontally. The manual states to test fit these; make sure you do this step. 6. Elevator Joiner Wire. To me this is a lighter wire than I would prefer. The reason I say this is because I needed to bend the elevator wire to straighten the elevator when joined to the stab. That is a large elevator and extreme 3D could cause this to bend or flimsy. A stronger joiner would be better. 7. Page 8, step 9. The carbon fiber anti rotation pin is glued in the wing. Make sure you test fit prior to gluing. I glued mine and found myself making adjustments to the fuse where the anti rotation pin goes. 8. With the wings installed and bolted, everything looks aligned and straight. If you were to take the wings and pull out you will see the front, leading edge pull away from the fuse. It’s not enough for concern or makes me think it will cause a flight failure. My thoughts are to reinforce the fuse where the wings are joined. My final comments; I am not disappointed with this kit and I don’t have any regrets in my purchase. I believe Great Planes has another well designed and a very good looker. Take your time building and read ahead and know the next step in the build process.

RE: Great Planes Edge 540T
I was thinking to use the E-Flite 25BL for power, but I went with the recommended setup. Great Planes RimFire 42-50-800 Brushless Out-runner Great Planes Silver Series SS-45A Brushless ESC APC 13" x 8E propeller AirThunder LiPo 2200mAh 11.1V (4) Futaba S3115 Micro Precision Servos DX7 and AR6100 I finished my build (minus one item I am waiting on) and wanted to test this setup. I was holding the plane and when I gave it a little throttle I watched the meter. Everything was good and then I went WOT, the plane almost left my hand. That would not have been good if I wasn’t holding that plane. I could peak at 400 watts and my amp draw was just below 40amps. So I can only imagine what a 4S would do. I believe the 3S will provide enough power to do anything. I am comparing this to my Eratix 3D. I don’t have a scale to provide the weight of the plane. I wanted to post my build notes/recommendations. More like if GP wants feedback I wanted to give my 2 cents.

I am curios about the comments on this GP Edge 540T looking more like an Extra. Other Forums/People have made this comment. Greg any comments? The only servos I have ever stripped are for the rudder. It has only happened with cross winds and I didn’t correct in time or landing to hard on the tail. But those were Hitech 55's. They are my choice for most of my smaller planes. I say good choice on the wings, and maybe a good choice would be for the elevator also, after all like you said, loose the rudder no problem, loose your elevator, its that time you will wish for a miracle.

I'm so jealous of you building your plane. I made a promise I would not start this build until I repair my E-Flite Mini Edge 540 first. I lost power on take off, Bad Deans, I even checked everything, ran it around on the ground like a RC Car, held it while WOT. Guess it wasn’t enough. Anyway, I have applied my first coat of 30 minute Epoxy and should be done with repairs this weekend. Then it time to the build of this very nice looking plane. I can't wait for that time when I get to fly her.

RE: Great Planes Edge 540T
Wingwrecker, thanks I too was thinking of the pull pull, after reading the manual it says it’s the recommended way to go. I guess If I was using a heavier motor, or heavier battery, then the tail would be the place for the servo. Your answer seems to make me want to try this. I didn’t know you would get a more precise control. My plane is to wait and decide this when I install everything, then I will check the balance. One reason is I could sue this as a good sport flyer. I would place 2 batteries in parallel and get twice the flight time, well almost twice, weight does effect the flight time. Anyway I too have a leftover pull pull (wire) I will keep searching for other answers. One thing. I was inspecting my Kit and everything is good except I notice 2 things. 1. The Tail/rudder is damaged, the very tip must have been hit against the box. It is minor damage, but still damage. I will try and glue this, if it does not come out straight I will be contacting GP. 2. My Canopy seems funny when installed. As you know it comes installed on the fuse. But I noticed mine isn’t seating very well. Maybe because the tail had been damaged (Maybe the box got dropped real good) but the Canopy seems like it sits back toward the tail to much. The reason I say this is because there is a slight gap between the canopy and front. Its a small gap, but noticeable. Other than that, the kit looks real good.

Nice job so far on the build. I just picked mine up yesterday and can't wait to finish my build I am on now and get started with this very nice looking plane. I do have a question for the ones who completed the build. Did you use the Pull Pull on the Rudder? I noticed that Greg did not, I was wondering what would be the reason for using the servo in the Tail or Pull Pull. After reading this thread I have not really seen any negative reports or has anyone mentioned of they noticed any bad habits. I have built and flown many of the Great Planes Models; most have been done really nice and flew even better. Can't wait to see more video and read more while I assemble this kit. I went with the recommended setup for motor, ESC and servos.
