RE: Sport Air 40
Hi Jerry, The Sport-Air 40 is a nice find. It was my first low wing back around 1982 or so. It is still hanging in my garage. It is a great flyer. I had an OS 40FSR in it and it really moved. Anyway, I still have the plans. I will scan the area that shows where the balance points are. As soon as the RCU system lets me I will post it. I hope this will help you. Take care and keep flying. RE: Falcon 56 MkII Build
Hi Guys, You guys are right on about bringing back memories. This was my first RC plane way back in the early 80's. What a great flyer it is. I powered it with an OS .40FSR and it was quick. Of course I usually flew it at half throttle. My knees were shaking a lot at the time. I wish I would have thought about using wing bolts instead of the rubber bands. Planes just don't look good with the wings held on by rubber bands. This is an interesting post Gord. I am looking forward to watching this plane come alive. Here is a picture of my Falcon hanging in the garage next to my first low wing (Sport Air 40) I had some close calls with it but it survived because I learned on a Buddy Box. Take care guys, Wayne

RE: GP Extra 300S 60 Build
Hi Andrewmc, The 300S is an excellent choice for aerobatics. I just followed the directions that came with the kit and everything just fell into place. It sure is nice to start out with a box of wood and end up with a beautiful flyer like the 300S. I am using an OS .90 two stroke in mine. The engine is a little heavy but I love the power it puts out. Good luck on your building and keep us posted on your progress. Wayne

RE: Great Plains Extra 300 S build
Hi Outdoorhunting, Thanks for the compliment on my plane. I'm glad to see you are back building. The tail feathers sure are not exciting to build. The fuselage is a little more exciting but after your wings are complete and you can kind of put it together just to look at it is when it starts getting more exciting. Don’t give up Big Guy we want to see some pictures of your progress. As far as posting pictures, it’s really pretty easy. Here is how you do it: 1. Click on the REPLY in the last thread (it’s in the upper right hand corner) Just below the box where you type your message you'll notice a spot that says “Click here to upload images and files Click on this to open the browse window. 2. Click the "browse" button, find the image on your hard drive, and select it. You will see that the image location has appeared in the space provided under the heading "Select a file to upload. At this point, all you have to do is click the OK button and you're done. Take care and keep us up-to-date, Wayne

RE: To Gyro or not to Gyro?
Raf, The JR G410T Tail Lock Gyro is no longer availble. What JR Gyro out now do you think best replaces it. Thanks, Wayne This description of the 410 describes what I am looking for the nose wheel. JR G410T Tail Lock Gyro: Great for beginners and intermediate pilots. Not only is the G410T unbelievably easy to use and inexpensive, it is also extremely compact.

Redo paint on yellow arrow on F18C
Gentlemen, I am finally getting around to fixing the arrow on the bottom of my JL F18 and was wondering how to prep it. As you can see from the picture, the factory painted the entire doors yellow. I need to repaint part of the doors blue. I know the paint will probably not match but it will be better than what it is now. I will be using a spray can of Blue Angel Model Master Paint. My question is should I just paint over the existing paint or should I rough it up with something like 400 grit sandpaper or remove the existing paint altogether and start from scratch. Since I have very little knowledge when it comes to painting, I would really appreciate any advice. Thanks for your help, Wayne

RE: Tubing Cutters
Thanks Guys for your input. I must apologize for not getting back sooner to your responses. As usual George, I like the way you think. I was making up my next order for Dreamworks and I kept putting the $12.95 cutter on the order then I would take it off, thinking I don’t really need it, and then put it back on and back off. After reading these replies it is back on for good. At only $12.95 and replacement cutters for another $5.95, it seemed like cheap insurance to make sure I get a good clean cut. Thomasp, thanks for the confidence in being able to cut a clean 90 deg using a hobby knife. It seems like this would be pretty easy if you take your time and do it with care. Thanks again guys for taking the time to give me your inputs. Wayne

Tubing Cutters
Hi Guys, Do you use a tubing cutter to cut your air and/or fuel tubing? Not to single out any one in particular but something like these from Dreamworks. http://www.dreamworksrc.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=578 http://www.dreamworksrc.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=1097 From what I have read, I realize how important it is to have square cuts to prevent leaks. Can’t you get a nice square cut by just using a sharp razor blade held at 90 deg. to the tubing and cut it? Wayne

RE: Air Systems Routing
Thanks Sean, I’ll check that out. Jason, This setup is for my JL F18C. I plan on using the UP3 valve for the gear and doors and a BVM Smooth Stop II on the brakes. The UP3 valve has (4) separate needle valves. One each for the doors open, doors close, gear up and gear down (the instructions say gear can be adjusted from 3-5 seconds). Are these needle valves sufficient for the delay you are talking about? I thought about separate systems for the gear and doors but my thoughts were if one of them fails, they are both useless. I can see how with separate systems it would be easier to find leaks. Even though this isn’t one of the more expensive jets, I did plan on using TamJets Fail Safe unit. I will probably pick one of these up next week. His shop is only about 20 minutes from my house. I haven’t ordered the UP3 valve yet. I wanted to hear what kind of setup some of you guys are using. I like your setup in your F4 with the BVM main valve for the gear and a generic valve for the doors. I do have (2) separate valves for the gear and brakes that came with the landing gear package. If the UP3 valve doesn’t do what I think it can, can I use the gear valve (it has 5 valves on it) that came in the landing gear package for the gear doors and add restrictors to slow the air flow down? Like you, I would use the BVM valve on the gear and add the JMP sequencer and setup the gear, doors and brakes with there own air supply. I am taking your advice on the size of the air tank for the gear. I have a 705cc Robart tank looking for a good home I can use. George, once again you have given me good advice. I’m ashamed to say I never thought about setting it up on a table first to check for leaks and if the setup will actually work. Since this is my first Jet, I really want to do this right. Thanks again Gentlemen for your inputs. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. Wayne

Air Systems Routing
Gentlemen, please take a look the sketch I created of the air system for the gear, brakes and doors. Please excuse the quality of the drawing. I don't have a CAD program so I created it in PowerPoint. The routing shown is not my final routing. I’m more concerned about the hook-ups. Please feel free to give me any suggestions on how to make it better. Thanks for your help guys. Wayne

F18C Air Supply
Hi Guys, I plan on installing (2) 350cc air tanks in my JL F18. Is this enough air for the gear, breaks and doors for a few flights? Should I hook them up in tandem to run everything or separate them? Thanks for any advice, Wayne

RE: Air Cylinder Diameter Size?
Kirk, thanks for the in depth explanation on how they work. I have filed the formula in my RC accessories notes. It does go up fast as you increase the diameter of the cylinder. Thanks Kirk for taking the time to explain this. Dan, you bring up a very good point on the speed of the gear and doors. I am looking for the more “scale look. I really don’t want the doors to snap open and the gear fly out. As far as the fit of a larger cylinder, I guess I will start with the 5/16 diameter and see how they work. The pictures I have seen on RCU build threads, on the F18, the cylinders look like the 1/4 ones. I guess looks can be deceiving. If there are any F18 owners out there could you please suggest what size cylinders work for you. Kirk and Dan, thanks so much for your input. I really appreciate it. Wayne
