I also use them in large scale planes.

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
If you have at least 1" of up I would just use servo end points and differential in the TX to limit the down, or you could change the position of the servo arm, but that's just me.

ECOMRC Stinson 108
Looking at the other Stinson thread I see people talking about the 108 so I'll start this thread. I have one and have flown it with the PTE 36 engine. I had some trouble with my HS 645MG aileron servos moving on their own and replaced them with digital servos which after about three flights seem to be working fine. Right now the plane isn't flying as I found a crack in the prop drive hub in line with the keyway and I'm waiting for a replacement. It flys good but the last time out I was making crappy landings Been getting some practice in with my 1/4 Scale Hangar 9 Cub so maybe by the time the Stinson is back in the air I'll be making better landings :-) People at the field like the looks of it.

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
Yes you need to get the differential set for more up and less down. I haven't got that far on my TM yet, getting lazy, however it comes with the same hardware as my Stinson 108 and I didn't have any issues with the differential so I'm not sure what is up with the TM.

Myself and another had the same problem using the HS 645mg servos. We replaced them with HS 5625mg digital servos and it solved the problem.

I am planning to use Sullivan Gold-N-Clevises, Sullivan Attachment Straps and Great Planes Rigging Couplers and larger than supplied wires. They will hold the top wing in place since I'm not making it one piece. Not planning to use the X brace wires on the outboard wing struts at this time, will see how it works when I get to that point.

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
If you are going to use a gas engine you might want to use servos other than the HS 645. In my gas Stinson I had the aileron servos moving on thier own and another guy had problems with them in a 1/4 scale cub. He replaced his with HS 5625 digital and it solved his problem. I replaced mine with the 5625 and it also worked. The other servos in my Stinson are still the 645 and they are fine so far and I will try them in the Tiger Moth just because I had already purchased them. The theory is that some of the 645 do not like the lower signal voltage in the 2.4gig RX compared to 72mhz and any small amount of ignition interference makes them do funny things. Just a thought.

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
The servos you list are too long, the openings fit standard servos. I am using HS 645mg and they are 1.59" long and just fit the openings. However the two elevator servo mount openings are very wide so the servos can slide side to side to position the pull-pull cables and there is plenty of room to lengthen the opening so you could use at least two of your servos with little work. The rudder mount could be cut larger too for length and width. The aileron servo mounts would take more work than I would want to do though. Check out the pictures in post #2 to see the rudder and elevator servo openings. Rudder in middle elevators to each side of rudder.

Thanks for the photos. I was looking inside and couldn't see a slot for the forward guide and from your picture the rear guide is above the elevator slot, in the illustration I thought it was actually in the elevator slot.

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
I was going to guess that the short strut was for the back. When I had it setup before gluing the attach points to the wings and before I noticed there was a slight difference in the length the top wing looked like it was angled down in relation to the bottom wing. It was also twisted slightly so I'm thinking I had a mix match of lengths between the two shorter ones. Another thing, IIRC in step 38 it shows gluing in some cable guides for the upper elevator and also for the rudder in the "supplied slots". I think I can figure out the elevator guide but I can not find any sign of a slot for the rudder guides to go into??? Can anyone shed some light on this?

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
Well maybe they should be but they are not in my ARF. I have asked several times if #1 is the shortest strut and all I'm ever told is that they are numbered, I guess it must be a secret. :( But I'm sure I can figure it out myself.

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
Instead of using bolts on one of the center section struts you could use a long rod threaded on each end to pull the wing halves together if that makes sense.

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
I believe if you look at the drawing it shows the plastic removed from the center fuel tank for gluing. I do not plan to glue the wings together, flying wires and struts should keep them together.

RE: Recommendations for gas engine, Hanger 9 60 size Twist
Ah yes, the DLE does use beam mount, it was another sub 20cc engine I was thinking of that was beam mount. However the DLE does have the rear carb which wouldn't work in the plane I was upgrading so that gave the NGH with its front carb the edge.

RE: Recommendations for gas engine, Hanger 9 60 size Twist
I have about 2 hrs. on my NGH 17cc so I can't speak to the long term reliability vs the DLE. I bought it to replace a glow engine with rail mounts, the NGH mounts on a rail with a front mount carb, the DLE uses standoffs and a rear mount carb so it wouldn't work in my tight cowled plane so the DLE wasn't an option for me. So far the NGH runs fine however it needs a starter, I have not had much luck hand flipping it but it starts great with a starter.

Working on the fiberglass wing strut attach points and found that the forward slots on the lower wing are not long enough for the part to fit, will need to trim the part to fit the slot.

RE: What might it be worth?
The elevator has two of the 4.8v s9303 on it. I could run one of these dual output JR voltage regulators, continuous 2 amp, 3 peak. How much current might these servos draw? Or I could just upgrade those two servos and call it good. http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/2-channel-voltage-regulator-JRPVR5203

RE: What might it be worth?
The plane came with Futaba s 9202 servos on the ailerons and rudder and s9303 on the elevator. The torque on the 9202 is less than the recommended JR servos. The 9303 has enough torque but appears to be rated at 4.8v and the plane came with a 5 cell NIMH and since I run Spektrum I would like to use a 5 cell or a LifePo4. I like to fly scale, not gonna 3D it for sure. Do I need to upgrade the servos?

What might it be worth?
A guy I know has a 106 inch Hanger 9 Cub never flown with a slightly used Saito 1.80 4s and probably Futaba servos (it's hanging in the garage) for sale. He has no idea what he wants for it, just told me to make him an offer and also not to break my bank. He doesn't seem interested in getting top dollar in fact he gave me a Sig Somethin' Extra not long ago. Any ideas what it might be worth if it were hanging in the LHS?

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
After bending and cutting the tail wheel wire, of course, I noticed that the rudder does not have a supporting block inside where the wire will go into the rudder like the hinge pins have. If I had noticed it I would have moved the lower hinge up slightly and used the original hole for the tail wheel wire. Also I recommend using heat to bend the wire, the instructions say nothing about this. It is the same gear as in the ECOMRC Stinson and I broke that wire bending it without heat. Edit: I will have to withdraw my comment about the lack of support for the tail wheel wire inside the rudder. I could not see or feel any block under the covering as I could for the rudder hinges, but after drilling the hole for the tail wheel there seems to be support inside.

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
I just bought this Tiger Moth and I thought I might comment on some of the little issues I find as I go along. When I put the lower wing on I find that the locating dowels do not go into the holes in the fuselage. The wing has dihedral but the pins are in line with the wing. Looks like if I round off the bottom of the pins it will go in fine. The only servo mount for throttle is on the bottom of the engine box, not sure how it could work down there. You have to build your own like in the pictures earlier in this thread. Overall it looks like a nice ARF. Bob

RE: Fuel hose routing on a 4 stroke?
Nipple on muffler connects to the tank vent to pressurize the tank. Clunk line to carb. to supply fuel to engine. Crankcase has a vent to open air, good idea to but a filter on it.
