RE: Monsoon wheels
Check out AKA racing and their line of 8th scale pre-mounts. I run these on my truggy (RC8TE) and i love them. I've also had several other customers with the Monsoon and the Avalanche to try other wheels. I have found that the 1/2 offset works best with proline wheels. I have had the standard ones hit on the spokes. They are slightly taller than stock, but the footprint is narrower. MOmo

RE: Backdraft 8e or hurricane xte
Monsoon/Hurricane/Avalanche etc. hands down over the Earthquake/ AS/ and BD versions. Built more like a true 8th scale buggy which will hassle abuse. IMO, and I work for a dealer, Its much much better. The weakness in the "Ultralight series is the plastic front end. All too often i have customers who bring in wrecked front ends from hard landings. They just don't hold up. With the hurricane, the whole chassis is metal and the plastic is beefier where it needs to be. Spend the $$ and go the true 8th scale route. you won't regret it. MOmo

RE: This is odd...
Silly question but was the body turned around on the frame? I can't imagine it just changing direction on its own, but I would check the radio settings and verify that everything is as it should be. If you look at he LCD readout on the side of the controller, the image of the crawler should indicate which is front and back. The front should always be toward the top of the radio. Thus, when you select front steer, the front servo should turn. I've found it does take some tweaking to get the servos to line up accordingly. Good luck, MOmo

RE: 2-Speed Transmision Adjustments
Does anyone know the Stock settings for a 2speed? How many turns out from bottom? Trying to re-install a 2spd for a client and he claims its never shifted. I have played with my 2spd on my mugen, but that was some time ago. MOmo

RE: Compatible Aluminum Hubs, Redcat Earthquake 3.5
These are the parts for the upgraded Alum. pieces you would want. MPO-04 MPO-02 MPO-03 Its going to cost you a pretty penny, but well worth it. just be careful or consider getting different screws. The stock ones might snap, some better steel ones or ti might be better. MOmo

RE: Redcat Avalanche XTE?
I've sold a few of these to customers and they have been very pleased. Its just a monster version of the Monsoon. Big, Burly, and fast. Great rig. FAR better quality than the Earthquake series. MOmo

RE: Traxxas motors. Need help fast!!!
IF you are talking about the 550 size can, I don't think you can get the clearance w/o cutting the chassis. Even with a standard 540 motor, there is little room for the motor. I know that when we tried to install a velineon system into one for a customer, it required the end cap to be removed and other cutting to be done. IMO, its not worth it. MOmo

RE: How Long Nitro Engines last ?
As already stated, It depends. To anyone that purchases a RC thru my store, I advise minimum 6-10 tanks break in. I have a friend who builds race motors, mostly .21s and his advice is at least that and then some. The key to any nitro motor is HEAT and how much. Allowing proper cooling and not leaning it out to ridiculous is important. They are simple motors, Run them, let them heat up, then allow them to cool. IF you continue to run them HOT and or don't take the time to break them in, you'll get bit. 2 Gal. seems unlikely, however if you rushed the breakin, it could be a sign of a wearing motor. A simple test is to turn the motor by hand w/ a glow plug installed. once you do it and you feel pressure, making sure its on the bottom of the crank after the rotation. THEN remove the glow plug and spin it again, you should feel the same or close to the same compression. IF YOU DON'T, your motor has had it. MOmo

RE: twister xb/xtg and xb/xtg pro thread
Wondering if anyone has any experience in Flashing the ESC with updated software and trying to run Mod motors? I've played a little bit with the HW/RC ESCs and it seems as though they can be updated, I'm just curious if anyone has played with any motors other than the stock one. MOmo

RE: Can I run 3 cell lipos on my Aftershock 8E
Along the same line, Obviously the factory ESC has 2 Leads for 2 batteries. I purchased a 3s 11.1v 5k lipo. and I wondered if it was possible to use the following adapter to make the ESC run 1 single Lipo rather than 2 2s lipo packs. Someone I know tried cutting the leads to make one, and had problems. I just wonder if the following adapter would allow me to use 1 lipo. (BTW, this is a Earthquake 8E ESC/motor combo in my RC8TE.) RE: Updated Redcat Sumo thread
Just curious if anyone else experiences dead-spots when trying to steer their Sumo? I have customer who brought one in and he claims that at times, it won't give full steering in one direction on the other. - I checked the trim, and the alignment IS off with the radio dial moved about 1/4 to the right - (obviously pull servo and center it, align servo horn, and re-install) - He claimed that when he adjusted the EPA on the controller, that giving more or less throw didn't make a difference. (When he brought it in, I tested it, adjusted to max and min and it DID make a difference. (Typical situation) customer describes a situation and it works fine or doesn't make the noise that they initial complain about. Does anyone else get intermittent steering glitches? MOmo

RE: Earthquake 8E -> Backdraft Hubs- Weak Axles??
Cust. has made another purchase and would like to sell this vehicle. Quite a few spares, no electronics. Upgraded with aluminum parts, stock replacement parts etc. The truck is in really good shape. despite my comments It is a great beginner rig. I'll also throw in a EQ converted AS roller minus electronics and battery mounts. This is a pretty good setup. Close to running roller and a complete backup car. Looking for $275 plus shippiing MOmo

RE: question about 2 speed transmission
ORIGINAL: bicyclebob is it possible to redline a nitro engine? if so, how do you know when you are getting close to redlining it?
There is no "Redline" per-say, however it does whine out. Depending on the setting of the 2speed, you can hear it shift. I've had some difficulty getting the 2 speed to change, so it does take a little work and a fine ear to detect it shift. As was stated, you should hear the change in the motor revs wen it changes gear. The shift point itself depends on you. My guess this isn't a race truck, but rather bashing, thus you can put the shift point where you want. The later you adjust it, the greater the chance for more top speed and utilization of the power curve. In Racing, depending on the track, you might want a shift point sooner rather than later. MOmo

RE: I'm so disappointed with THE QUAKE 8e....
I've had a couple customers whose lipo packs died after little use. All i can say is that their warranty is pretty good and usually will take care of it. I've even gotten NIP packs loose that appeared "swelled" before even using them in anything. I would recommend a good "Blinky" just to check the cells balance every so often, but i wouldn't balance every time. I used to balance every time, but a friend who works for Venom says its not necessary. I would use a blinky every couple of times not always the balancer. Also, given the volitility of the RC lipo packs, I would invest in a lipo bag or something metal for safe charging. MOmo

RE: I'm so disappointed with THE QUAKE 8e....
Do't discharge them, just charge them or Balance them. I believe that you posted that you updated your charger. Bummer about all the problems you've gone through. I will say that RC staff has been helpful with most and all of my questions. As a Dealer I have to deal with lost of customers and their issues etc. They have always done well to rectify any problem. I feel your pain, i have a customer who has also gone through quite the ordeal to get his truck operating properly. MOmo

RE: Please explain
I sell many Redcat products in my store, typically, whether its the sport or the pro (brushed or Brushless) if you look at the cars (with the exception of the 8th scale which come with lipo) most of these cars come with Nimh bateries. IF it is the upgraded pro versions with the BL and threaded shocks those also come with a Nimh battery but the BL systems will accept Lipo. And yes, the ESC comes stock for Lipo cutoff, despite coming with a Nimh. MOmo

RE: Backdraft 8e issues (CVD Joints and steering)
You can try to ship the axle, or use shrink tube the pin so it has less play. I recently tried this on a customers car. Hold the smallest shrink tube in the middle slide the pin through and once its through both sides, apply heat to hold in place and take up slack. If you are using the stock servo, its just a crappy servo. low Torque rating and just poor construction IMO. If ou truely want more precision, I would invest in a stronger servo, like one from Hitec, Airtronics, Savox, JR Etc. You'll find these work better. MOmo

RE: Hpi sprint 2 drift?
I've been selling the Sprint2 drift cars for quite a while and everyone who drifts it, really likes it. It seems like they have a run of bad rear belts, in that they strip, but its few and far between. I think it also depends on where you drift. The new Sprint 2 drift are very nice and with the 2.4 and WP ESC, its prety cool, but expensive. With a little work, they can be made to CS, which is really helpful in drifting. Momo

RE: Backdraft 8E - Steering Knuckle
Its both the material of the hub and the screws. I fixed a customers problem by getting 4 40 screws from a hardware store. he stock steel screws are weak and bend easily. Also, a simple fix (if you don't want to spend a ton on loctite, is use clear fingernail polish on the screw threads. It makes the screw tacky enough to stay in and not vibrate out, yet still soft enough to remove with a little pressure. MOmo

RE: Earthquake 8E -> Backdraft Hubs- Weak Axles??
Thanks for the insight. My store is located in Clackamas Mall. We've been a Redcat dealer for quite a while. I carry quite a few models, and order weekly so its a sure bet if they have it, i can get it. Its just frustrating that these axles are so weak. I would have expected that the larger wheels wouldn't have made THAT much a difference. has anyone TRIED going truggy on an Earthquake 8E? MOmo

Earthquake 8E -> Backdraft Hubs- Weak Axles??
So I work for a store in Oregon. We are a strong Redcat dealer and heavily support the Redcat brand, selling all kinds of parts and products. I had a customer purchase the Earthquake 8E and invest a LOT of time and especially money into the truck. Recently we made changes to the susppension and hubs, converting them to the Backdraft 8E axles and hubs. We wanted to give it more of a truggy stance, and Redcate even offers the BS17MM-Kit, which converts the stock axles to 17mm. Has anyone bent axles? MOmo
