RE: UNOFFICAL Tamiya Blackfoot Thread
DAng :( Better looking oldschool style body, but why can they not make a decent chassis again for this truck instead of trying to put it out on a touring car one HAHA. The blackfoot deserves better shocks than those pityful things. If they re-release a decent version I will buy one. They need to just reissue the super blackfoot or monster beetle.

Nice! I like seeing custom one offs like this. What did you think of the FAV kit? Is it pretty close to the original?

RE: Official Dark Impact Thread
Hey I need to get a few parts to revive my daughter's df03. One main thing I need is the solid metal round pin that keeps the steering bellcranks centered. Does anyone know what parts bag has this part? Also I have some new tires already bought the proline dirt hawgs. What is a good cheap set of wheels I can buy and mount these on? the stockers are already glued I'm sure I won't be able to salvage those and the stock tires are well bald :P Thanks!

RE: brushed motor?s...why do i need a lathe and what is cutting the comm
racers used to cut the comm every time they raced etc and I'm sure it helps gain a few rpms, but bashing in the yard you probably wouldn't notice it. On the milder motors like 17 and 19 turn you can get away with what I do with my daughters dark impact buggy. I take the endbell off, and take the comm out, and the comm usually just gets tarnished and dark but doesn't really get big pits or deformed. So I use steel wool and rock it back and forth to polish it, then blow the entire thing off with motor spray and lube the bearings etc.

RE: Traxxas slash 2x4, how big of a batt??
slash can accept everything from 6 cell to 9 cell nimh if they are made in the right format...(2 cells on top 7 on the bottom etc). As far as lipos, my buddy has my old slash now, but he has been able to fit a hobby city 4000 mah 3s pack in there so there is quite a bit of room. The stock xl-5 holds up to the 3s lipo also, and I tested it with 10 cell nimh so 8 and 9 cells are a joke for it really, unless you were running some low turn brushed motor which I doubt many would in the slash. its a really nice esc for brushed. With that being said, I never could find a brushed motor that would hold up and I tried everything including the s-600 and various 550 motors. They would last longer, but if you geared them for any speed at all they would eventually fry especially if you ran in grass etc. I think the best thing to do on the slash is to either run it in a fairly stock configuration or get a 3s battery and a lower kv brushless motor. It is just a big heavy vehicle.

RE: Return of Lunchbox..
I have seen two lipos shipped for 26 bucks on ebay...7.4 2s 4000 mah packs, but the output is 15c instead of 20 or 25. I bet for just a lunchbox or something running a stock tamiya esc and silver can it would have plenty...I may snag some and try them out.

charger for sealed lead acid 6 volt
I have a sealed acid 6 volt battery I need to charge up. I have a turnigy accucel 6 can I use this on nicad or nimh mode to charge it? I realize that the cutoff or peak isn't going to be right, but I figured I could set it to something super low like .5 amps and let it run over night would this work fine or not? I see on ebay i can buy a wall wart type charger that is 6volt output at 500mah etc is this alot safer to use or would work better? Thanks.

RE: YOUR LONGEST ROAD TRIP?
My personal best was jackson, tn to mitchell, south dakota the first day of a 4300 mile trip the wife and I took. That day was somewhere around 950-1000 miles I guess. Plenty sore and tired, but this traveling was done in the days before the kids came along :P I don't see pulling it off these days AHAH.

RE: PC upgrade finally...
Nice rig! Soon I will build a new rig, since windows 7 beta has been out I've been trying it and like it pretty well. I am curious though if you are throwing that kind of money at it, why not run a solid state drive? I would far rather have that, even if it meant going to 3 gig of ram or sacrificing a video card etc. But then I have always thought harddrives were the worst bottleneck. I too have owned raptors, and they are fast, but nothing like a ssd. You are right they are still silly high, but not if you get one that is small in gb. What I would do is to get a small sized ssd for the boot/ os drive, and then just get a huge 1tb 7200 or something for storage.

RE: BEST RADIO?
The 3pks has backlit screen, more model memory 20 or 30 versus 10? more settings than the 3pm does, including a big scale feature set, which I think basically slows down some controls? Most of them also have switchable modules. This is the real kicker for me. Because you can use fm if you have vehicles that have novak or synthesized rx, and then pop in a 2.4 ghz module for racing or for other cars etc. I would like to have a 3pks, but I am still running a 3pm myself.

RE: Photos of motor internals?
Ok, here is a site I found quickly searching online that shows a motor torn apart http://www.rccartips.com/rc-electric-motor-tuning-guide.htm I didn't find a pic of brush glazing right off, but basically, the end of the brush that is rounded and sits against the commutator should look pretty much like the sides of the brush. In otherwords, if the face of the brush is dark, or burned looking you've got issues. Brushes are cheap, it doesnt hurt to have a couple around for spares. Is the motor that comes with the sc10 even rebuildable? If it is, then it will have two small phillips head screws on the endbell, take those off, take the spring tension off the brushes and the endbell will come loose. If you don't have a lathe, then about all you can do is to make sure that everything is clean, buy you some motor spray, and a can of compressed air, another thing you can do, is if the comm looks like it could use a bit of cleanup but isn't bad enough to need a cut, I use a little scrap of sos pad, and turn the comm back and forth on it, and it shines it right up.

I would reccomend buying some of the trinity cobalt, peak, or checkpoint v2 endbell mods that are floating around. They can be had for 20 or 25 bucks shipped all day long off ebay, or off sites that are closing them out since brushless is big.

It is a nikko turbo panther :P I have one and had one as a kid also. Pretty fun little buggies! You aren't going to be able to find tires anywhere as they are a oddball size. You are missing the headlights as well i see. Do you want to buy this one for spare parts? Pm me if you do. It works, but has some glitching sometimes. RE: which lipo battery fits the grasshopper?
The picture of the trakpower next to the 3700 pack is deceptive. The problem is that the grasshopper isn't even designed for cells 3300 size or larger, so most 4200 and such as this won't fit even if they are regular sub c stick packs. I like the ace lipo it is small enough to fit good in all the tamiyas i have found so far.

RE: HOTSHOT RE-RELEASE BUILD!
I think that the shot looks better, but the boomer would be the better performer probably. The real solution though is just to install the supershot type 4 shock suspension, with some more modern day alloy shocks although when you do this I guess you lose part of what makes the car so unique. I say install the stock stuff and run it till it gets sloppy and then upgrade [:D]

RE: Tamiya Boomerang re-release! Build yours here!
hmm so they are still readily available in the uk? I bought mine on a tower hobbies closeout, and I used to see tons of them on ebay for around 30 bucks, but lately i don't see any of them even the newer v2 endbell versions...I guess a checkpoint money motor is probably about the closest you can come to the same thing. I do agree with what you say. I have always sort of viewed the 19 turns as the hottest motor I would want to be putting in a reissue or vintage car, the 23 turn tam. superstocks are probably a good choice too. Some of these people putting these 5700 castles and all that brushless have to be ripping the gearboxes to crap unless it is a gearbox like the lunchbox and grasshopper have. On the boomer/shot is the 15 tooth pinion the largest one you can fit? These are 32 pitch gears correct? How hot does your element get with the 15 tooth it looked like it still burns the tires the entire throttle range! It could probably pull even a bigger pinion right? Anyway looks like a fun car. I am wanting to get a re re hotshot for sure before all these shot cars are discontinued. I'm sure they are a fun build.

RE: Tamiya Boomerang re-release! Build yours here!
nice vid flatout! I have a orion element in the df-03 I built for my daughter and it is the older version like you've got (regular endbell). I agree that it has alot of power for a 19 turn! I have stuck a reedy kr 14 turn in there now and while it is a bit faster it is harder to keep cool. The element motors stay nice and cool. I don't know how many runs I've put on this one of mine and it doesn't need a comm cut or brushes or anything.

RE: Short Course Electric Trucks mostly being offered in RTR Form Only!
cheaper for the company to provide a car in rtr form? Not hardly. When a car is sold in a rtr form, the sprue trees still all have to be molded just like they are in a kit, except then they have to all be taken off, and someone has to be paid to put the thing together apply all the stickers etc plus install the radio gear and test it. I've never seen a kit that came with paint, and a rtr usually requires a larger box, since the car is prebuilt and has the controller in there etc so there is more shipping cost for a rtr. Alot of race kits like the tamiya trfs and such don't even come with tires, wheels, or maybe even a body so they would weigh very little. You ought to see the box for the trf511x it is the size of a shoebox and tiny. rtr cars also come with hopup parts and extra pinions. The slash for example comes with extra pinion, several wrenches, shock parts etc. But anyway I can see hpi offering a kit hopefully they will with their short course truck they have been better than some other man. in the past about providing kits as well as rtr.

RE: Brushed Motor that can handle 3S Lipo?
The electrifly s series motors will take that much voltage for a good long while as long as they aren't geared too ridiculous. And if you fry one it's 15 bucks so who cares :P

RE: anyone have experience with tenergy 3500mah nimh cells?
man it is easy to get spoiled on lipo! Long runtimes, mega power, no stupid cells coming unbalanced or discharging from sitting around etc etc. Don't have to worry with the cells overheating also. Sort of funny to me, Tenergy has all these nimh packs for like 15 bucks, and yet their lipos are way overpriced haha

RE: Short Course Electric Trucks mostly being offered in RTR Form Only!
Don't forget another thing. When you buy a rtr, you are assuming that whoever built it did so properly... Most rtr you will find will work out of the box but that doesn't mean they are built properly. Just for a example, a couple years back I bought the wheely king when it first came out. I drove it awhile in it's stock condition, and the rear diff ended up grenading. When I tore the truck down I could see that the pinion gear in the diff could walk in and out alot. It should have been shimmed way way tighter from the factory. I was able to fit a whole regular washer, not shim behind the gear. Had I built this truck I'd have never let this happen. Never forget that most if not all of these things are being assembled in china and so build quality is going to be hit or miss. Also remember that if you get a rtr or kit either one off ebay or somewhere other than a dealer and some part isn't right the company probably isn't going to warranty it.

RE: Short Course Electric Trucks mostly being offered in RTR Form Only!
Yeah but when you buy used you tear it down at least the gearbox right? To see if everything is in order? I agree with kaiser, alot of these kits aren't made to assemble and take apart 20 times. The screws basically cut their own threads into the plastic and after awhile of taking them in and out they don't hold as good. This is especially true with kits that use phillips head. Another thing to consider is that not all rtr kits would have full assembly instructions. They may have some but it's probably nowhere near as complete as a kit booklet would be etc. I bought a slash myself because I do like the corr trucks, but for everything else there is tamiya [:D]

RE: anyone have experience with tenergy 3500mah nimh cells?
Of the tenergy cells offered, these aren't the worst. They are probably worth the asking price, just don't expect loads of punch and power. The 4500s aren't terrible either, but be sure to steer clear of the blue 3800 cells. These are pure crap.
