RE: Are there constant load servos for flaps?
And another thing I bet the servo is trying to find center and is singing. This is where the programer comes in to adjust your center, bandwidth and speed. Where ever you have the servo at flap up you could make the center and adjust the bandwidth. http://www.servocity.com/html/hfp-25_servo_programmer.html

RE: Are there constant load servos for flaps?
First thing, do you have the Hitec servo programer ? If no you should. Everyone that is using digital servos should have the programer. Now if you did you could have use the programer to slow down the servo sped in stead of the TX and chances are it would not have burn out, maybe. I say that because a factor that can cause a burn out is EPA not being at 100% instead quite often it is way turn down and this along with slowing down the servo via the RX = HEAT due to resistance build up. Ever feel a dimmer switch that is controlling a room full of lights when the lights are turned down VS full on. Yea same thing happen to that servo, it gets hot. I am thinking your linkages are bad and you try to compensate by turning down the EPA then on top of that slow the servo down. NO GOOD. If your flaps are tight you need to fix that first thing. Then instead of bring down the end point to compensate for a bad set up, take the end point back up to 100% and move the control rod to the first hole after screw in the center of the wheel. At the horn move the rod to all the holes to find which hole that will get you the max travel you want. You will have to try a few combos to find the sweet spot. At the end if you MUST adjust the end point it should be just a few clicks still in the 90s, above 95% if you can. Keeping it close to 100% saves the servo from heat build up. You start going into the 50s and lower you asking for it.

RE: Military colors only at warbird meets?
Hey Ron, I get on you sometimes about the electric stuff but on this one I`m with you 100%. Not sure what your CD is hauling but it must be bad. Last time I check a P51 IS a Warbird. Now I`m gona ask, are they going to check to make sure all colors on these warbirds are correct, right shade of blue, right color for aluminum and not gray or silver ? Cause the way I see it false colors should be in the same category as the Miss America Scheme.

RE: Robart Landing gears Vs other ones for Ziroli P38
And BTW, when you go to these guys sites , you probably will not see gears for the Ziroli P38 but they can do a set for you. They are not like Robart or CJM with a stock of different gears on the shelf waiting. You have to call them and ask for what it is you want and then they will make it, quite often in a couple of days for simple stuff like the P38. Now if one wants a set of Wildcat gears that is a different story.

There are also Shindin and Likes Line. These 2 are better than Robarts and from the last time I use CJM, better than those too. Some how these two companies don`t ever get mentioned even though their gears are much better than Robarts. http://www.shindinmachine.com/ http://www.thelikesline.com/

RE: SCRATCH BUILT P-38M NIGHT LIGHTNING
If the screws are locked in and would not back out, it should be good. How ever the star washer I do not like. It may bite in uneven and cause the nut to loosen, then BAM!. I would have used something like 60 grit sand paper glued onto the back plate. Cut a circle a little bit bigger than the center of the prop. The screws, locked them in with JB Weld in the back plate and put a sleeve over the threads sticking up. I would feel better with the prop resting against something smooth not grooved. As it is now the prop may slip. I have used sandpaper before on plastic spinners an it worked.

RE: Meister 109 rehab
The bulges on mine are the same way. Going to do it better after the test flight. The tire pokes out at the leading edge. Some people has theirs poking out towards the wing tip. Guess it depends on the legs and wheels you use and which wing you have. Later there was a thicker wing done to eliminate the poking out.

RE: glow to electric conversion
According to the specs it swings up to a 15x8 on 4s. so it does swing a bigger prop at 590 kv. On 6s a 12x8. So it is just a little boost over a 46 same as the Super Tiger 49 over the 45 or 50 size 2 stroke over the 45s and 46s. Now I know there were a few 50s that did not live up to the claims of bigger power as claimed, like the Fox 50 over the 45 Deluxe. Nah that 45 was a beast. Also the old OS 45SF.

RE: glow to electric conversion
ORIGINAL: da Rock EFlite says the Power46 is a 925 watt motor. OK, seems realistic. The 52 should be about 15% more powerful right? EFlite says it's 1650 watts. That's more than 75% stronger? And it's 20% heavier. But EFlite's suggested props for the 46 says you can go to a 14x10 but have to stop at a 14x7 for the 52. Make any sense? But the clincher was:
Rock the reason the 52 swings a smaller prop is because of the KV. Higher KV motors are hi revving where as the lower KV motors are like 4 stroke engines. So a motor with 7 turns will swing a small prop while a motor with 16 turns will swing a larger prop.

RE: glow to electric conversion
Hacker is like the Benz. Rimfire is like the Toyota. Both are very good, only comes down to how much you want to spend. Just know you WILL ALSO get LONG LIFE from the cheaper motor. Even though some STILL say you have to spend more to get good quality. I have yet to see a BENZ on the top 10 consumer satisfaction report. Number one has always been either Honda or Toyota.

I agree with you Moggy, and my question has always been , why can`t engines like the IL 135-270 and 200 be made in the US? Just wondering. All the good stuff is made over there that we want, and we are will to pay what ever it cost.

RE: glow to electric conversion
These are good too. The 5055- 500 KV motor would be good for what you need. The 5065 would be better. You would be able to cruse at a good clip at half throttle on 6s. The 65 is more like a 120-140 4 stroke only with a lot more torque. http://www.electrifly.com/motors/gpmg4505.html

RE: glow to electric conversion
There is really no reason to use 8s on a 10 lb bird. I have a Pica sixty size Spitfire with the Himax 5030 - 390 on 6s and it`s a bullet. A 50xx series motor can turn up to a 18" prop on 6s. 10 lbs is nothing for these motors. Adding 2 more cells is just a waste not to mention weight for such a small bird. But it is all up to you. By the way my Spitfire is about 10 - 12 lbs. http://www.maxxprod.com/pdf/HC5030-390.pdf

RE: glow to electric conversion
You could use a 50xx series motor on 6s and a 80Amp ESC. Something like a 5065 320KV would be good.

RE: SCRATCH BUILT P-38M NIGHT LIGHTNING
Yes the prop will move. It will slip on the back plate because it is smooth. Just the same way that Du-Bro back plate has the ridges that the prop sit on, if you can, cut some on your back plate or glue in the stop pins just like the ones on the Du-Bro spinner. The prop will slip when you go from idle to full power. Torque will cause it to slip and it will shatter the spinner. Tightening just the prop nut to hold the prop will not do.

RE:
This summer my buddy was doing a taxi test on his newly rebuild 100" 109 when one of the aileron servo arm fell off. Yep it was metal arm, metal gear. Good thing he did the taxi test first. That would have been a serious blow to moral if he was up in the air. I don`t like using locktite because the screws are a pain to get loose. I use silicon, works well. I will also get some of those 2.5mm bolts. Much better than the philips head.

RE: Meister 109 rehab
Just a note, you WILL be adding a hell of a lot of weight up front maybe any where from 3 to 5 lbs. So don`t skimp on beefing up the cowl or what ever else you need to do up front. Up front of this plane is not the place to be worried about weight, because here is the thing, when all is done and you find that you have to add pounds of weight to that cowl in order to balance you would then have to be sure that the cowl is solidly attached and will not fall off from the weight. OR plan on building a ballast box that will extend out over the engine. I have this plane with a Sachs 5.8 and may still have to add weight much less a ZDZ 80. I see you could be adding 6 lbs up front. Build that cowl like you want it to be 50 cal. proof.

RE: Metalmorphing the CARF P-47
ORIGINAL: glazier808 Wow, gram hog? It was simply a question. I've never owned a 3d plane nor will I, I have a full hanger of warbirds. I didn't say the plane couldn't handle it. I said it looked great, and asked how much the screws themselves weighed. Casey
LOL. no hard feelings glazier, just teasing. But truly though there are guys that go absolutely crazy when putting together a giant warbird. They weigh every single thing down to the glue. I mean really ??? Now I could understand a 60 size plane but a plane over 80". Come on now. I never weigh any thing when I am building. At times I weigh when the plane is completed just out of curiosity or if someone ask me. Other than that most of my plane I have flown I have no idea what they weigh. I just fly them. I have flown some planes that felt like a truck load of rocks and found flying them was a solid delight. Ever felt a Valliy Tempest or Hurricane?

RE: Metalmorphing the CARF P-47
An extra 10 or 12 lbs would`nt hut this plane none especially with that Moki up front. Wojtek being the pilot that you are , you can handle it. Don`t let the gram hogs scare you. You know the guys that like their warbirds with the same wing loading of a 3D Edge 540. Just plain crazy. The 47 is looking bad A$$ right now and can handle the extra weight very, very well. Can`t wait to see it. Please let know if you will be out at PARCS.

RE: That nasty AT-6 Bounce
Be careful of too much forward CG, makes for a lazy elevator that can cause other issues. If the CG is in the right location but you want to move it even more forward to fix the bouncing it can bit you in a bad way on landing. Nothing like finding out on approach that you don`t have enough elevator to lift the nose. That not good either. On take off you may not feel it because of air speed but on landing you will.

RE: That nasty AT-6 Bounce
Yep let go of the stick. That is the reason for the bunny hopping. You are still holding up elevator AFTER the mains touch. LET IT GO. Key thing is to do a day of touch and goes to get you use to the releasing of the elevator just as the wheels touch. It is a timing critical thing that you have to get use to. Only way to get there is by practice and touch and goes will get you there quickly. After doing a dozen or more landings in quick succession the brain start to get the program what to do.

Very few successful companies got that way by ripping people off and providing lousy service. That's the problem  with online forums, it's so easy to get on and start blasting someone or some business before even giving them a fair shake, and tarnishing their reputation and effecting their business. Most people will not get past the first page of a thread like this and will come away with the idea that TBM is a bunch of rip offs and avoid buying from them. I wonder if you will be so quick to start a new thread titled; ''I was wrong and I apologize to TBM''. You could drive down to Florida and pick up your stuff; how much would that cost ? I learned along time ago if you have a problem with a company then you talk to the owner becase no one cares more about their company than the owner.
ORIGINAL: midastouch_73 Obviously we all love this hobby. Our need to feed our addiction is obvioiusly slowed by the countless amount of money we all spend to stay airbourne. I've done plenty of business with TBM in the past and I have had no problems whatsoever. Unfortunantly this time things went sour for several reasons which were later explained to me. I spoke with Tone Price early this morning at length about a wide array of things includuing this situation. Tone Price went above and beyond to make this situation right. I have to give credit where credit is due. TBM went out of their way to make things right with my shipping. I appreciate the fact they didnt blow of my concerns as if they didnt care. RE: pica or top flight p-51
Pica planes fly very well even with thick airfoils. How ever don`t let the thicker foil fool you they are slippery and will snap if mishandled. Top Flight did some serious airfoil mods to their warbird line in the 90s soon after the gold edition came out. They started selling gold kits like crazy and guys were crashing them left and right especially the P47. The planes had close to scale airfoils that were not forgiving and in the hands of an unskilled pilot did not last long. So they changed the airfoils so it is more forgiving and that is why the TF warbirds sell so well. Even with the thinner airfoil they are like trainers with a warbird shape. Pica on the other hand requires a bit more attention. No sleeping at the sticks or you will pay the price.
