RE: Pensacola Jets 2011 is UNDERWAY!!!
I want to add that I asked for the support from the RC jet guys to help us get the Penascola Jets back in the air, I can only say THANK YOU, Randy and the other gus pluss myself put a lot into this, because of the Navy holding us to a Friday morning setup Randy and I was on the field at 0600 waiting for the tens and potty to be on site, some how it all worked and we had a bunch of great jet pilots, as Randy said we will start at the first of the year talking to the Navy, we hope we can get the motor homes back on site for over night stays... I have a special thanks to Bill and Sam, you two know why, BUT again THANK YOU to all, I asked and you guys did it for us the SUPPORT was out standing, we all know that the short notice did hurt and that will be taken care of for next year.....2012 PENSACOLA JETS, make a note. RE: Pensacola Jets 2011 is ON!
Guy's I want to thank all that have made the decission to make it to the Pensacola jet's this year and thank you to all that have sent the very nice replies, all of the Holley flyers have worked very hard to keep our field open, Randy has put a lot of time into getting the Pcola jets back up and running again, because of the limited use of the field, we have asked the membership that fly prop aircraft to stand down during the jet event, so as you can see it is not only the Navy we have had to deal with but due to having a good membership the prop guy's will drive to another field to fly if they don't want to see the jet's............I not only want to THANK you out of town jet pilots but THANK you to the rest of the Holley Flyers that will be giving up the local field so we can Jet's. We are one week away, you still have time to make plans to attend, come on fly your jets, eat some great sea food and visit with friends. Thank you, for your support. R. Kranz

RE: Pensacola Jets 2011 is ON!
I think Randy hit the nail on the head, and if you have ever been to our field at Holley you know you have to drive at least a 1/4 of a mile from the gate which is locked after the event is over each day. So if someone wanted to steal something they would have to walk this distance, get what they wanted, then walk back all the while carrying any items. That is a nice walk, and the area is lit up and can be seen from the road. Also, the Navy does an inspection every hour on the field each night. I have been to every event held at Holley since 04, up to the event in 08, which is when I believe the commanding officer and the saftey officer came out to visit. While looking things over they were very impressed with the R/C jet's, but not so impressed by the large brown RV parked on the field, and having a table set up outside with 4-5 whisky bottles sitting on the table. This did not sit well with the Navy, and this is when we lost the privilige of having overnite stays with RV's and/or campers. So who's fault was this. Believe me guys we would love having you to be able to park there for the convience, and be economical for everyone. We are working hard with the Navy, trying to get this suspension lifted, and maybe next year it will be set right. But, unfortunantely we were unable to get permision for this year. However we have gotten lower rates from three motels, and the RV camp site in the area. I know the Day's Inn still has 21 rooms they will hold at the lower rates. If the no motor homes on site is a reason to make or break the even, we are sorry for the inconvience. The Pensacola Jet event will take place with or without your support. However, we would love to see you at the event and support our efforts and maybe this will be an incentive for the Navy to lift their restrictions. Guy's this hobby is suppossed to be an avenue for the R/C families to be seen and to see other clubs fields, and to give as much support as we can to other clubs. I know of 5 men from here and the Mobile, Al area that went to support the Georgia Jet's this Sept. 2011, and we could of stayed home and gone over to our field, which is only 1/2 mile (or less) from my home. But, instead we were very much interested in the clubs event, and enjoy helping our fellow R/C er's. I would also like to say that it would be nice if some of the other clubs would get lower room rates for us out of towners. So come on guy's GIVE US A LITTLE SUPPORT AT HOLLEY!!! We would greatly appreciate it, and would enjoy having you at our field. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and we do look forward to seening you soon. R. Kranz

Do you have the arf kit, if so the right engine has a shim for left thrust or offset to the left what ever you want to call it, the left engine was o degs, control throws should be about 1/4" for all until you get to know the airplane, I do not remember the CG I thank it was 4" from the leading edge, someone should be able to get that for you. Hope this will help KRANZGoldwings:

RCV 120
Otto, I would like to thank you for the information you gave me on the telephone, IE: starting the 120 with or with out the starting prob, not only did you save me a little money for not having to purchase the prob, but your information on making sure the engine is very wet prior to trying to start the engine will make things a lot easer now that I know that the engine likes to be wet, this is just the opposite from my other FS. and now I don't have to put a hold in the cowl for the prob knowing that I can start it by hand. Having a REP, on line is out standing the first 120 is going in the TF T-34, I will be calling for the 90 to go into a Byron T-34, I went with the RCV because it is the only FS that will fit in the cowling with out cutting a big hole in the side for the head to stick out, TF said that a FS will fit under the cowling, this is not true unless you want the head sticking out of the side. I have several hundred hours flying the full size T-34 during flight training in the Navy and during retirement I was the manager for one the Navy Flying Clubs, I had three T-34's on the flight line and put 10-20 hours a week flying the T bird and not a single one of the full size T-34's I have seen has had the head sticking out of the cowl. So you guys out there that are planing on building a TF T-34 keep in mind that the RCV is the ONLY FS engine that will fit totally under the cowl. Thanks, again for the help, I will let you know how the 120 works out in the T-bird. R. Kranz: KRANZGoldwings@aol

Bill, I have no idea how high the slimline mufflers are, I would recommend that you tack the mount in place with the engine screwed down and sit the wing on, I see that Rich is now putting a note on the box. As I was saying I built the airplane as the instructions stated, page by page and what I found when I sat the wing in place with the muffler on the engine, the wing rested on the muffler. I, called Rich, and I was very unhappy, Rich stated that he could not test every engine on the market, this is true, BUT he had already been told about the problem by another customer, I had to rotate the engine rework the linkage and the firewall ended up with a bunch of holes. The airplane is a kick to fly it looks good and I can not say anything bad about Rich, ofter than he should have said something to me when I was standing in his office about the problem with the muffler, and I see he has now taken care of that, I, was only trying to give the other builders a heads up if they are planing to use OS engines and I am sure the same problem will happen with other engines, unless you change the mufflers or rotate the engines, I loved the little airplane once every thing was worked out, it really looks good with the gear up and it is very fast. Best wishes and happy flying.

I, wish that note was on the box when I got my OV-10, I went to Rich's office and picked up the kit, I told him at that time I was going to use OS engines and he did not mention the point of rotating the engine. Rich did give me new cowlings sooo I guess you can say he made it good. a lot of work was wasted, I am one that goes by the the instructions and the wing was just about the last item, but all is well the airplane turned out real well. Bill, I set my OV-10 up with the recommended travel on all of the controls, I found that you only needed 1/4" on the Ailerons, I set it up for 1/4" on low rate and 1/2" on the high rate this worked real well, also with the nose lowered it will take a longer take off run due to the wing being lower in the front, I am sure we have a lot of fellow flyer's that will have a commit about this, I would raise the nose up some and I did this helped on take off, I read one commit that the pilot had to reduce power because he was running out of runway and the airplane jumped off, the engines pull the nose down, flying off of pavement will help due to the speed. ONE, very important note for the guys that are going to use the OS 25's with standard mufflers, you can not install the engines as shown on the plans, the wing will rest on the mufflers, you have to rotate the engines 45 degs, I found this out the hard way, and Rich does not say anything about this, unless he has added it to the notes. Happy flying. R. kranz: if you have any other questions contact me on my e-mail KRANZGoldwings@aol.com

You, will enjoy flying the bird, if you have'nt pined the hinges DO so, I blew the elevator off on the second flight. by cycling the retracts I got the nose up to make a good landing no damage. Also if you are flying off grass you will need a lot of speed, the air plane will jump off just about the time you think it isn't going to fly so be ready, I do not recommend the amount of travel on the controls at least not on the first flight. Good luck, you will love the little airplane. R. Kranz

maybe the retracts made the difference the nose strut is longer. what part of the world do you fly at, we are planning to do some traveling soon maybe we can make one of your clubs fly in. I, also found the same problems with the plastic. I must have rotated my engines more than you did, no problem with the pressure fitting the needle valve is about 1/2" away from the firewall. Did you use spring air gear, I don't have the problem on take off, but my nose is up a small amount. The airplane is over priced for all of the problems you have to put up with. I have't seen any others flying.

Bill, I too had the problem with the elev. what I did was hook the push rod to my drill motor and let it run moving the push rod in and out until I had a nice and smooth movement without friction. On the rudder, I let the push rod find neutral and then installed the connector using the joint for center line as you should. Be very careful with the ca hinges, glue them several times. I had the elevator blow off on the second flight, I cut the power and lowered the landing gear several times until I had a nose up attitude, no damage during landing. I would be glad to talk to you more on aol, about the airplane. KRANZGoldwings@aol.com Good luck, look the airplane over very good, you will find all kinds of stuff.

Hello, from south FL. if any one is planning on building the OV10 from Hobbie Hangar and you are going to use OS 25's, use cation on the engine instalation, you can not follow the instructions and the designer does not say anything about the muffler on the OS engines hitting the top of the wing,YOU MUST ROTATE THE ENGINES 45 deg. I went to the designers office to pick up the plane and told him what engines I was going to use, he didnot say anything about the mufflers hitting the wing, so after a 30 min. telephone call raising H@#!, he did make it good. The little airplane does fly very nice, USE cation building.
