RE: opinions on Seagull
I have one Seagull plane. It's the Extra 260. It seems to be a well built ARF at a very reasonable price. Assembley went well with good instructions. Hard wear was of good quality, even had carbon fiber push rods and this was on a $159 90 sizes plane too. I have been flying it for 2 years now with no issues. I think I've more than got my money's worth out of it. The oly thing I can think of negative to say about it is they had the c/g listed at 100mm and that was tail heavy for my style of flying. I think I settled in on about 85mm.

RE: Edge 540 67
I replaced everything in mine as well, even the pull-pull rudder system. I cut some wooden washers and epoxied them inside the fuse for the line-up pins on the trailing edge last night . I hope that corrects that problem. That Edge I believe is by far the best flying plane I have had to date. I almost shed a tear when my other one went in a couple of years ago. I think I did shed one when I found that they had been discontinued. Mabey I'll get all of the bugs worked out of this one soon and can go to enjoing it. Right now what we need in AL is some dry weather. I believe it has rained 30 of the last 40 days.[&o]. That wing tube is a nice sized one ain't it ?

RE: Edge 540 67
I know this is opening an old thread but I have a question. I had one of these planes that died an untimely death a couple of years ago. I think it was dumb thumbs but I'm not sure. I bougth another but have not built it until now. During the down time I discovered this thread or another like it. After reading this I went to great efforts to prevent flutter. Used heayv hardwear 70 oz servos sealed all hinge gaps and glued every thing I could reach without ripping all of the covering off. That said about 2 minutes into the second flight I heard the dreaded flutter. I got it on the ground in one peice and after a good going over I discovered the line up pin at the trailing edge on the left wing had wallowed out about 1/16th of an inch mabey. The wood surrounding it was very soft. I made some new washers out of 3/8 lite ply. Maybe I'll get to try it this weekend and see how it does. I think this plane was destined to flutter. Thats probley why they were discontinued. Any thoughts?

RE: Best Servo Reverser
I have been using a Futaba SR-10 for about a year now on a Extra 260. I have not had to touch it since the initial set-up. I was using a cheap one ( I forget which brand ) about a $20 cost but I was constantly having to recenter the thing I am very well pleased with the SR-10

RE: are Thunder Tiger good engines?
I have flown a 60 sized trainer for 4 years now with a TT Pro 61 on it. It proably has 25 gallons through it with no problems. I think TT Pros are the best 2 stroke engine out there - and that includes OS.

RE: Seagull Models
Insane - it sounds like your 260 lands and handles about like mine. Mine will drop the right wing if you get too slow with it. Landing has to be pretty hot or you'll see the cart wheel effect, which isn't pretty. The Cg if I remember correctly was at 8mm from L/E. I don't really know where mine is at now but that was way too tail heavy for me. The lateral balance only took moving the battery pack to the right side to correct it.I had a sub-C battery pack that I put inside the engine compartment that made things much easier. I never put it back on the balancer to see where it was at. The 260 ,to me, don't compare with the Goldberg 540. I recently found one here on RCU to purchase.I haven't put it together yet, don't know that I will as long as the 260 holds together. I had a Saito 100 in the first one, while it did not have unlimited vertical it flew the plane just fine. I have the same engine in the 260. I found a deal on a Saito 120 that I intend to put in the Edge 540. I'm eager to see if it handles as good as the first one.

RE: number of club members and flights
We have 8 members. 2 of those I have only seen when collecting their dues. ( I like those kind of members ). The most we have had there at one time is 4. Usually it's me and one guy there on Saturday and me and a different guy there on Sunday after church. We usually fly all we want. Most of the time it's "it's your time to fly - no I just flew it's your time". We fly all we want to and only one plane in the air at a time.

RE: Got a free Tiger 2
I also have a Tiger II with a Magnum 46 on it. It flys just fine with it. I have had a TT Pro 46 a 55 AX and a Tower Hobbies 46 on it. Ofcourse the 55 made the most power but I really can't tell any difference in the other three. I will say I believe for the money the TT Pro is the best deal out there for the money.

RE: how to keep rubber diverter on muffler ?
I have a Saito 100. The exhaust tube on the muffler is tapered. No amount of zip ties would keep it on. Clean or not. I put a ridge around the exhaust with JB Weld and had no more trouble. The newer Satio's have a muffler with a ridge machined on it. Seems like Saito realized the problem and corrected it.

RE: Battery Charger
That is a very good charger, not the cheapest one you can buy but a very good one. It will meet most all of your R/C charging needs. It also comes with an A/C power supply so it A/C and D/C ready with nothing else to buy.

RE: Best engine for 60 size trainer
This is the Ford vs Chevy thread but, here's my opinion anyway. I've got two TT Pro 46s and two TT Pro 61s one 46 FX one 55 AX one 75 AX and one 91 FX. For the difference in the price I would go with the TT Pro engine. They are just as easy to break in, tune and keep up as the OS engines. Two of the TT Pro engines were my first engines. They have more gallons through them than I care to think. My trainer proably gets more flights on it still than any of the other planes and all I have done to it is one glow plug. It'll crank everytime with a chicken stick. One flip if it's above freezing. Might take two if it's cold. It's a 61. Getting parts for the OS engines has been simple. You can call Tower and they will get them on the way. I don't know how hard it will be to get parts for the TT engines, I've not needed any yet.

RE: tower.46 nitro engine
I know this sounds crazy but I put a golf ball sized peice of steel wool inside the muffler to raise the tank pressure on a couple I had that was giving the same problem. I done it after gettinbg the advice here on RCU. I was skeptical at first but it worked. You have to use COARSE steel wool.I went through the same thing you're describing, sputtering after 1/2 tank of fuel burned and would not idle which resulted in dead stick landings galore. I later built a baffle out of aluminum for them. You lose just a little power but if the engine won't run with out it what good is it? There is about a 40 page thread in the engine forums on the GMS and Tower engines related to this problem.

RE: old fuel?
Both times it happened it was winter or just comming onto spring so the summer humidity wasn't a factor. I would run the engine dry and apply about a teaspoon of after run oil and give it a quick spin with the starter at the field after each session. As far as using the engines they would get used 4-3 times a week during the summer with no problem and maybe once a month during the winter - as weather permits.

RE: old fuel?
I have a question reguarding old fuel myself. not unopened fuel that has been stored properly but, fuel that has been opened and say carried over the winter. When I open a new jug of fuel I put my pump on it and don't change it until that jug is gone. That being said, the last two years I have had to replace bearings in two engines An OS .91 FX and an OS 46 FX. I fly during the winter when weather permits, usually 3 or 4 times a month. On each occasion the engines started running poorly on the old fuel but would run fine on new fuel. Being somwhat tight wadded I didn't discard the old fuel but chose to burn it up. My question is could the old fuel accumilate enough moisture to cause the bearings to rust but still run in the engine. I always run the engine dry after a session and add a little air tool oil for ARO. I'm sure I didn't experiance a lean run. There was rust on the bearinga and crank shaft. My shop is not climate controled unless I'm in it, so the stored fuel goes through temp changes. In the spring and summer fuel don't last long enough to get water in it.

RE: What to do after "landing" in water??
Blue apple paste I think I would seriously consider Minnflyer's advice, I'm not knocking anyone else's advice but he's been fooling with "RC stuff" longer than most of us, shoot longer than alot of us have been breathing.( I wonder how old he actually is -dirt comes to mind when I take time to ponder the subject) Anytime Mike or Ken talk poeple need to listen - Just like EF Hutton. Although if it was a four stroke I would at least pull the back plate off and apply ARO. Fuel mixture doesn't flow through the crankcase like it does on a two stroke. On a four stroke all of the lubrication the crankcase gets is ring blow by and what you put in it.

RE: rubberbands!
Per Hobbico's instructions about two bands per pound of plane. I've used this rule of thumb for years and had no problems at all. It may be over kill but I have not lost a $400 airplane to a 1 cent rubber band yet.

You can get one of those gaRCfield is showing you at Wally World with 1/2 gallon of white wall tire cleaner in it for about .50 cent more. You can clean all of the tires at your house and the neighbors mabey even your in-laws then presto you have a fuel jug for your tote. Be sure and clean it out good before you put fuel in it.

RE: Is The Hobbistar 60 a good .60 Sized Trainer
In my humble opinion that is the best trainer available. I learned on one and have trained a couple other guys on them. The semi symetrical wing will let you advance further thah a flat bottom wing. I think I would stay with the recommended engine size. Mine flies well at 1/2 throttle with a TTPro 61 on it. A couple of the guys that I helped along had OS LA 65s on theirs. That engine pulls them around quite well also. The ARF with the TTPro on them took a couple of oz of lead in the tail to balance and the LA 65 plane balanced without lead so if I was building myself another I would go with the LA engine. It is a very well built plane with a good heat shrink covering on it. If it has a flaw it's the nose gear, but you can put a Fultz Dual Strut nose gear on it for just a few bucks. My nose gear took a beating while I was learning to land. I'm sure everyone has thier own favorite so I'm throwing in my 2 cents.

RE: Proud Father!
Both of my sons started flying three years ago. The oldest is now 15 the youngest is 13. Before RC there was nothing we all three enjoyed doing together. I had some things I could do with the oldest or some things I could do with the youngest. But nothing we all enjoyed. I soloed first, Ben (oldest) second, and Logan last. Now when the weather turns cold they are not as eager to go fly as I am, but during decent weather it's a hobby we all throughly enjoy and will until The girl bug bites. I just hope they come back to the hobby afterwards.
