RE: 47
ORIGINAL: lomcevac540T Got a few more flights this weekend. I like it! OS 55 is a great combo with this airplane. The more I fly this plane the more I learn about what it is capable of. Waterfalls, knife edge loops, flat spins, wing tip spins... it will do it all. Great product!
Hey thanks Lom! I'm glad you are learning more ninja skilz with the 47 ProYak!

RE: Need Hybrid Fuse
Yep! Hybrid kits are in the works right now. All the material is eith in hand or inbound. The wood is at the laser cutters now ans should be done this week. Kits should be ready to ship in a couple of weeks. Shoot me an email Victor at Mike@ohiomodelplanes.com and tell me exactly which parts you need. For example just the laser parts or all the fuse parts including sheeting and sticks, landing gear, etc.

RE: Hybrid Fuse
Actually yes I have thought about that but I think it would actually be a little heavier that way unless the back end was trussed out like a lot of giant scale planes are. Laser cutting also costs more so the more parts that are laser cut means kit pricing would go up.

RE: OMP Edge Question
ORIGINAL: prophecypilot Was thinking of getting an OMP Edge, question is has anyone tried one with a YS 63? What ould be the best prop choice for this setup? Thanks
Absolutely! The YS 63 is a very common engine for the 40 size slabs. We even sell the YS 63 in a combo deal with the Edge. The 63 on 20-30 percent nitro could swing a 13-6 I'm sure.

RE: 47
I use almost exclusively the Hitec HS85 servo for my throttles. You will find that the HS-81 won't last that long as the potentiometer is not designed for the vibrations of a glow motor. More intended for electrics. It will eventually fail. Use some 1/4" thick scraps of hardwood to space the servo out from the pocket and it won't extend past the left side of the fuse. This is my standard setup now. Good advice on the wings above guys! If you want a more solid plane then put some glue on the root ribs or at minimal the anti-rotation pins. I still do not glue the wings on even though I never take my plane apart unless I crash it. Then having the abilityto take it apart and fix it in a modular fashion is priceless. Escpecially when you can lay the fuse flat on the table to make repairs. [:D]

RE: OS 91 for the 47 Edge 540 V3 ARF
ORIGINAL: shortfellow Need help guys. I've pretty well decided on a Edge 540 v3. I would like to use a magnum XL 70 4 stroke but it weighs 3 ounces more than the recomended engines. Would the extra weight be of any consequence? Any other reasons for using or for not using this engine? Tnx Vince
Seeing as many folks use the Saito 72 and YS 63 I would think the XL 70 would be right in line as long as you have a good Magnum. Run decent nitro and you should be happy. 3 oz isn't too much more weight. Would definately not run a .91 though! Too heavy.

RE: Is there an eta for the new models
Sorry as website work is not my forte'! If we are talking about the 65" Yaks I have no plans at this time to bring back kits or ARFs. To be honest kit sales are so low compared to ARFs these days I'm finding myself in the same situation as most other manufactures and that is that there is no return on the invested time and money to do kits. The only kit run I'm working on now is a run of 92" Hybrids. We do have new 50cc ARFs coming in mid Nov and those are the only new ones I've been working on recently.

easy to fix. wrap sandpaper around a wooden or other tube and gently sand the inside of the wing tube sleeve just enough for the tube to fit in nicely.

RE: DA 85 on the Edge Hybrid?????????????
How about the DLE 55 on a canister? We flew both our OMP Hybrids on DA50s with canisters and they had plenty of power. Not like the little profiles but right in line like any giant scale plane.

RE: DA 85 on the Edge Hybrid?????????????
I would guess the vibrations from a DA85 would tear teh Hybrid apart. Keep in mind the Hybrid is a 16-17 lb plane when built correctly. So in other words it is built very light.

RE: 80
Marc, You've discovered a mistake I made on the website manual! Thanks you! The manual on the CD that comes with the kit is correct and the manual on the website was a pre-production version I must have uploaded by mistake. Thus the red text areas which indicate a few items I needed to go back and edit. So bottomline is the CG on your manual (9.5 - 10) is correct. mike

RE: Help Me Retrain My 52
Still sounds like some kind of control linkage or servo looseness or lack of radio accuracy. The Fusions all track way better than the standard short coupled funflys and that is what they are known for. Much better for combining pattern and 3D than the funflys are. Make sure you have good servos, linkage geometry is correct with no adverse angles, and your radio is setup properly for maximum resolution. If your plane is tail heavy then that is another cause of adverse pitch sensitivity.

RE: 80
Common question but the cg is correct in the manual. Even on the 67" Fusion folks ask about the cg location. The Fusions have a unique wing design and plus the wing is tapered so the actual "center of lift" is further back then youo think. Thus the appropriate CG is futher aft.

RE: Edge 540 help
I couldn't agree more with the advice given above. Also keep in mind that doing an elevator manuever with a 40 size plane with really light wing loading just isn't going to happen like you see with a 30 lb giant scale plane. They are really just too light. Keep a little throttle in and this helps keep the tail down (need the airflow!). Remember when we fly 3D we are really flying with "vectored thrust" so unless you have airflow over the surfaces you will not have any control authority. Hope this all helps. oh, yea......burn lots of fuel and keep practicing! [:D]

RE: best 50cc yak
Ohio Model Products is bringing out three new 50cc models to our lineup! Working with EG Aircraft we have downsized our Yak 55SP and the Extra 300 mid-wing from the 100cc sizes to the 50 cc size as well as picking up some new and exciting offerings from EG Aircraft. We expect delivery in mid Nov with shipping to begin immediately after that. Save 50 bucks if you pre-order early! I'm slowly working on the front page to spice it up with the new giant scale offerings but we've got the pre-order pages up for the three new 50cc offerings. And they can be found through any of the pull-down menus on the pages. Here are the link for the new 50cc Yak. The pipe tunnel is plenty big enough for the typical canister. 50 cc Yak 55SP: http://www.ohiomodelplanes.com/50ccyak/index.htm

RE: Picture of my 47
Also the weight of the prop has a huge affect on how much the airframe wants to torque roll once you get it hanging on the prop. A heavier prop will allow more of the engine torque to be transferred to the airframe and thus the plane will want to torque roll with more aggression. A lighter prop will have the opposite affect. Put a light wood prop ont he nose and it is much easier to learn to hover! [:D]

RE: Boxxer trimming?
Skip, most of your questions have to do with general aircraft trimming and a good pattern trimming chart will help out. But basically engine thrust should be nuetral except for about 2 degrees of right thrust. If your pitch trim changes with throttle changes then you vertical engine thrust line is off. If the plane maintains heading even with throttle changes then the engine is mounted ok. If you are pulling to the canopy in any attitude then you are most likely carrying up trim in the elevator and should add nose weight. You say the plane flys nuetral inverted and this is good for 3D but most folks prefer a slight nose drop when inverted for better overall stability and tracking. Also, this bipe is very aggressive and has large control surfaces. If you apply full deflection at certain attitudes and airspeed you WILL snap the plane. This is a characteristic of the bipe so you need to learn how to fly this particular bipe and how much control to apply in what situation. Once you learn how to tailor your control inputs you will unlease the full potential of the Boxxer. Many probros consider the Boxxer the best 40 size bipe ever but it is not and will not fly like a monoplane. Hope this helps.

RE: If this forum is inactive it should be listed as closed.
Skip, our contact phone number and emails are clearly shown on our webpage under the contacct tab: http://www.ohiomodelplanes.com/teamomp/index.htm Although we sold the Boxxer bipe the design belongs to Jeremy Chin and we sold under an agreement with him. We have not had the Boxxer in maybe close to 2 years now and I myself have not even put one together to fly. Too many other profiles if you get my drift! Anyway I'll go see if I can find your other post and help.

RE: 47
Profiles are a blast in the wind as they have a light wing loading, plenty of control authority, and lots of power to get out of trouble. All this makes these profiles very fun to fly in the wind when others stay on the ground.

We used to do a 79" Yak profile but the Edge was more popular and so we decided to just produce one of the giant profiles. Only the Edge is currently offered.
