RE: LINOO FLy DV Camera
If your WIN 7 PC recognizes it as a mass storage device, you ought to be able to drag and drop video files from your camera to your PC without having to install camera drivers.

RE: 8mm too DVD conversion
OzyDave suggested use of a DVD recorder as one way to move your video from 8 mm tape to DVD. Lightfoot suggested a firewire card. Which route you choose depends on what you want to do with the transferred video. Most DVR units have RCA, S-video, and perhaps HD inputs. As OzyDave told you, you only have to play your tape back on your camera after connecting the camera to a DVR to obtain a DVD of the tape. However, the recording on the DVD will be in a format that you may not be able to edit. If you want to edit the video on your tapes, a video capture widget and appropriate software will be required. SONY Hi-8 cameras had RCA and S-video outputs. SONY mini-DV cameras had firewire output. If your camera is 8 mm or Hi-8, a firewire card will not do you much good. You will have to choose video conversion hardware that is compatible with your camera. There are all sorts of widgets that will accept RCA input because there are a lot of people with old VHS tapes who want to transfer their videos to DVD. Examine your camera and read its manual. SONY was pretty good about providing ways to transfer video. Once you understand what is required, you should be able to buy a widget to obtain editable video for less than $100. If you prefer idiot proof with no editing, buy a DVR. They are very easy to use.

RE: New multirotor with fully shielded propellers - Quad/Tri/Hexacopters
I am definitely interested in the concept. However, a 14 oz frame seems heavy. It would be useful to know the payload that your prototype can carry as well as the size of its motors. Please keep us informed of your progress.

RE: Blade cx3 requires consistent left cyclic input.
Tearing your CX3 down to inspect its shafts is a final step to check for bent shafts. You can remove the upper blades, check for vibration, and then the lower blades and again check for vibration as interim tests for bent bits. If something seems to be shaking, continure taking things apart to examine the shafts. The best test for bent inner or outer shafts would be to roll the shaft along a very flat surface such as a piece of stone threshold or your kitchen counter. The rotor head or gear has to stick out beyond the edge of the flat surface to permit this test. You will see the shaft lift off of the flat surface as it rolls past the bend. A stock metal flybar can bend into an S shape in a crash. This can cause toilet bowl. Sight along the flybar to see if it is bent. Check the flybar and linkage for binding as another cause of toilet bowl.

RE: Blade cx3 requires consistent left cyclic input.
By constant left cyclic input, I assume that you are talking about yaw, because the CX3 is a co-axial. If the problem is beyond correction with trim, adjust the proportional mix pot on the 3 in 1. That adjustment is touchy. That pot is fragile - Mess with it too much and it will break. I recently repaired a CX2 whose former owner diddled with the pots so much that I had to replace its 3 in 1. That person failed to notice that the lower rotor head was broken and essentially wore out the pots on the 3 in 1 trying to fix its misbehavior.

RE: Blade cx2 battery questions
The CX2 requires a 2S 7.4 volt battery pack. The 7.2 volt battery shown in your link is cheap, but it appears to have the wrong form factor. I use Tenergy 2S 7.4 V 900 mAh 25C batteries purchased from BoomTown Hobbies. There are other brands that also work better than the stock 10C batteries that came with the CX2. Shop around, but pay attention to the form factor (shape and size) of the battery.

RE: MCX2 servo not working??
You can do all of those maneuvers without aileron input. Aileron input is only required if you are trying to "bank" left or right. For instance, in an airplane, you would enter a turn by toggling the rudder and maintain the turn with ailerons. Your MCX2 has 2 servos (elevator and aileron) and controls yaw by controlling upper and lower rotor speeds. If your MCX2 does not slide left or right in response to aileron input, something is wrong with that control. You already know that you can fly fairly well without it, so you will have to decide if you want to fix the problem or ignore it.

RE: MCX2 servo not working??
That servo is aileron roll. The left servo controls forward and back motion (elevator). The relative speed of the rotors controls yaw. The MCX2 would get about OK in the absence of aileron control. Rebind. If the aileron servo still fails to move, you have a problem that would have to be fixed if you want ailerons. AH-64 D

RE: Spare parts I should order for the MCX2
It is hard to break parts on the smaller helis, but it can be done. For example, a power_ON crash onto an open case of wine bottles [Why else would you crash under power?] may shear the little fingers off of the EFLH2217.

RE: how many out there actuially have wives that support your hobby
My wife does not mind the dozens of helicopters and fixed wing RC aircraft in the basement. She patiently watches when I fly because it is good luck. Her eyesight and reflexes are better than mine, but she prefers fishing to flying RC. Her dad flew with the 339th over Europe in WWII, so I offered him a Sterling P-51 named after his daughter in exchange for his consent to our marriage. It worked. My suggestion to others is to marry a fighter pilot's daughter and always offer to row the boat when you go fishing.

RE: Some OLD articles
"Rocket Manual for Amateurs" was written by Captain Bertrand R. Brinley and published by Ballantine Books. Willy Ley wrote a forward for it. Its 1960 price was 75 cents. Out of the group of 4 friends who read it, I was the only one not to get burned or maimed. Zinc/sulfur fuel in an aluminum rocket was probably the safest suggestion in it, since the aluminum usually melted shortly after launch. One friend loaded a CO2 cartridge with a pyrotectic powder. The resulting explosion and damage to his metal garbage can launch container convinced me to never use any rocket motor other than a commercially available product. I agree with your suspicion that the small test rocket fashioned from a cigar tube and a reloaded CO2 cartridge likely never flew - in one piece, at least.

RE: New MSR and the dreaded TBE
Glad the TBE is fixed. The MSR requires constant input to keep it under control. It is a pleasant change from a coaxial, unless it takes off like a scalded cat, in which case there will be very little time in which to get it back under control, or chop power to avoid any damage. regards, AH-64 d

RE: New MSR and the dreaded TBE
Fixed a similar problem quite awhile ago, but only vaguely remember its cause. Take another look at the main rotor hub. The calibration tool sets the spacing, but does not guarantee that you will tighten the hub down in the right location. Dismount the hub and see if its screw is actually going into the hole in the shaft. Slip a paper clip in from the other side to line things up. Tighten the screw into the hole to push the paperclip back out of the shaft.

RE: MSR
I have seen mine shudder. I think it was a damaged finger on the anti-rotation collar. If the collar is OK, carefully check the main rotor collar for the same problem and then check position of the main rotor collar. I did not take notes about that repair, and can only point to the bits I messed with to fix the problem. I do recall that the anti-rotation collar had to be replaced, but do not recall if that cured the shudder. As it is, it no longer shudders.

RE: mcx motor replacement
Just had to move the guts of grandson's MH-35 FHX from a busted mainframe to a new mainframe. The black silicone sealant binds the motors in the right location so that they mesh with the rotor gears. Only had to scrape the silicone off to back each motor out of its frame. A dab of silicone glue fastened each one in position in the new frame. Easy to do if you have elf-sized fingers and the dexterity of an octopus. I have neither, but the repaired bird flies fine.

RE: CX2 Bodies
You can buy clear bodies from Boomtown and paint them yourself - The outside comes masked. Tape the inside that you want clear, and paint the inside with Krylon spray paint. Peel off your tape and the outside masking when your paint is dry. BTW, 2 thin coats are better than one drippy one.

RE: blade SR....truth?
The CG problems described in this thread may explain why I never see anything about the SR brushless DDVP upgrade. The kit's brushless motor, servo, and variable pitch tail rotor hung on the SR tail boom must shift the CG back to somewhere that is a lot worse than that of a stock SR. It figures. Not only did I buy a headache, but I bought a mod that made it into a migraine. Oh well, forewarned is forearmed. Thank you for the candor.

RE: landing skid pin broke off inside
A simpler way to get the broken plastic out is to heat a pin red hot and shove it into the center of the broken plastic before it cools. When cool, pull the pin out of the socket along with the broken plastic that is now stuck to it. I posted a "how to" thread about this on this forum over a year ago. Search it out and look at the pictures.

RE: mcx Tandem Rescue
ORIGINAL: Brainanator I think I figured out the auto rotation. The gyro gets un-calibrated during long flights or rough landings. I can usually just restart the heli and clear that problem up I think (will test further after batt is charged). Still curious about the skewed side sliding.
Look for a loose battery connection or solder joint. Momentary loss of power will drop the aircraft back into binding mode with subsequent loss of control. Your gyro problem sounds very similar.

RE: Video Camera on a Blade 400???
How is the camera attached to the helicopter? I used to use velcro - bad idea - too much shaking. After lots of experimentation, learned a sandwich of airframe, vibration-dampening gel, and camera held together with rubber bands reproducibly yielded good video. I use sorbothane. Cheaper stuff can be bought from a music store - Musicians use it to dampen unwanted resonances in drums, and so on. You will have to try different-sized pieces to learn what works with your camera. The amount of Sorbothane I use differs for a FlyCamOne HD (60 gram camera), a FlyCamOne2 (40 gram camera) and a 16 gram keychain camera - low or high def version.

RE: Mcx2 upper rotor head.
Something is bent or binding, causing friction and wasting power. As a start, hold onto it and power up the rotors. Look carefully to see how much the rotor mast is shaking. Then look for trash, such as carpet fuzz, in all the wrong places.

RE: Need Help Upgrading Blade CX2
I upgraded my 4 in 1 with more capable MOSFETS and reverse diodes thru Mikes RC repair, but the guy seems to have gone out of business. If your CX2 lacks motor fuses, they would be a wise purchase that you can get from Boomtown. Their purpose is to protect the 4 in 1 in the event that you lawn dart your CX2 with its motors running. You should search out what Solo Boss wrote about tweaking a CX2. It is useful reading that I would have attached as a pdf except that the RCU software does not seem to be in the mood to allow me to attach anything at the moment.... Ah, got it to upload by posting and then editing post....

RE: MCX tandem problem
If the MCX and MCX2 fly OK with your DX5e, then its dip switches are set correctly. All 3 of those birds use the same setttings on the DX5e. I suggest that you rebind to the transmitter. It is easy to do it wrong. It is also easy to inadvertently hit the trainer switch and loose bind. Been there, did both. Another thing to check would be both swashplates. One may be separated.

RE: mCX first outdoor flight!
Sewing machine oil is a good, light lubricating oil. Not too many sewing machines are operated outside at below freezing temperatures, so you might want to find out how the oil you purchase behaves at that temperature. You may also want to consider some of the lubricants included in gun cleaning kits or sold in sporting goods stores - Hunters really dislike lubricants that freeze up their favorite hunting iron on a cold winter day. The deer like it, of course.
