RE: Cap 232 Data ...please help
That's my video..! The plane is a Hangar 9 80" Alitalia Cap 232 (as stated in the title of the video). They've been out of production for 6-7 years now. I had that plane NIB for several years and even tried to sell it a few times (unsuccessfully). I finally got around to putting it together late last summer on a whim. I had maybe a dozen or so flights on the plane when that video was shot. I flew it 40-50 times and then sold it RTF to help fund another project - wish I hadn't! I fly 40%'s almost exclusively and that was a great little knockaround plane. Too bad H9's doesn't build them like that anymore awesome build quality and materials yet still very light. The one-piece wing was a serious PITA, though... It was 15.5lbs built exactly per spec with a DA50 and Pitts muffler. A few carbon bits and it would've been in the 14lb range easily - it didn't need any lightening, though.

RE: ? HS 5955 Gear Train ?
ORIGINAL: RTK Glad you are giving them a try, can't understand why JR does not use a similar gear train.
That and the fact that no other company has offered a programmable solution continues to baffle. It's those 2 reasons I exclusively run Hitecs now. Every JR 84/8611 I've owned has needed new gears after less than 50 flights. Matchboxes are a pain and an additional unneeded failure point. My guess is JR knows there are enough die-hard, JR brand loyal junkies that will continue to buy them no matter what. The die-hards love to say how great JR service is because they will re-gear your wornout servos for free. Yeah, that's just what I want to do.. Pay a premium for servos that have to be re-geared every other month. I don't know about you, but having to pull all my servos, ship them off and then have to set everything up again is not my idea of fun. The only place you're "feeling the difference" is in your... ..nevermind. I don't know how Hitec's service is, because I've never had to use it.

RE: TBM Props....any opinions ???
I used to think they were NX/JXF/etc... In my experience, they are not. I tried a 23x8 and it was quite a bit more load than the NX and it didn't pull as hard. I recently tried a 26x10 and it was a similar load to a PT 27x10 (RPM and spool) but was very loud and didn't pull nearly has hard. The 23x8 was fairly hard to balance but the 26x10 wasn't bad at all. The 26x10's hub was extremely soft as well. They're a mixed batch... FWIW, I would not recommend TBM's prop drilling.. I have ordered probably a dozen or so drilled props from them over the last few years ranging from 22x8 wood to 32x10 CF and all but 1 or 2 have had one issue or another. Either the holes don't all line up or one or more are drilled at an angle. One was so bad I ended up having to fill the holes and redrill. This after I complained to them, and at their request sent it back. I waited over a week and then got the same prop back with the holes reamed a little. [:@] I will no longer order, nor recommend their drilling service.

RE: ? H-9 Cap
I have the H9 Cap with a BME 110 and it flys straight as an arrow with no weird trim, etc.. In fact, it only needed 5-7% rudder to elevator mixing for perfect KE. No other mixing, etc.. Sounds like either your thrust line is way off and/or an incidence problem. Trimmed for hands off level flight, fly about 3/4 throttle and then chop the throttle. What happens? If it immediately drops, you have too much upthrust. If it immediatly climbs you have too much downthrust, etc.. I dont' know the degrees of up and right thrust mine required, but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary for a perfectly trimmed plane. Caps shouldn't require any voodoo magic or any more work than any other airframe to trim out. As for landing, Caps do tend to land a little differently. Even with a neutral CG, they can tend to balloon a little bit on landing. You really need to fly them down as opposed to lining up and chopping the throttle. A little down elevator while settling in is normal.

RE: Servos speed vs. torque
It's always easier to spend someone else's money.. If you're on a tight budget, the 5645's are fine. They are slow and don't center that well, but will not be a potential point of failure. If your budget allows, 5945's are the way to go. 5955's are even better, but simply overkill unless you're really trying to be serious about things. 5625's would ok on the elevators, but not enough on the ailerons, IMO. I run 5945/55's on everything; however, I do have an old 87" EF Yak that I use strictly has a beater/knock around plane with 5645's on the ailerons and elevator. It's had a few years and a couple hundred HARD flights worth of abuse and the ol' 5645's are still running strong. It all depends on what your budget allows.

For what it’s worth, I’ve owned 2 DA 50’s and both have consistently turned an NX 22x8 between 6900-7250RPM depending on the muffler (stock or Pitts) and weather. Other props for comparison sake: NX 23x8 6800-6900RPM; PT 23x8 6700RPM; MSC 23x8 (measured 23.5) 6300RPM.

RE: Transitioning to Giant Scale - BME 50cc Yak
I went from flying various .40-sized 3D planes for about a year to a 28% and haven’t looked back. Shortly thereafter I went to a 33% and then onto 40%. Bigger truly flies better. If you’re confident in your abilities then I say go for it. The only way to progress is to keep pushing yourself. As others have noted, landings are about the only thing that will require some additional attention. Other things you will need to consider are throttle management and finesse with control inputs. The only bad part about flying giant scale, aside from the cost, is all the little stuff is no fun any more. I used to be perfectly content with the glow stuff. I don’t even like flying them, period, now.

RE: Control arm
To me, the extra $50-$60 is WELL worth the extra insurance and peace of mind. Considering we're talking about $100 servos that are going into a several thousand dollar model, the extra $$ is rather trivial IMO. I'm sure they're adequate, though.

RE: ONE OF A KIND HANGER9 SUKHOI PICS!!!
A member of my club lost his Sukhoi on the 3rd or 4th flight due to a wing failure. He's a a circle flyer for the most part and never stressed the airframe in any way. The engine (brand new ZDZ 80 Super) and all of the electronics were a total loss. Horizon was kind enough to at least replace the airfame with the 33% Extra.

RE: Saito 82 vs 91 for PL Extra(46)
I had PL Edge with a Saito .82 and it was the perfect combo, IMO. The YS and Saito are nearly identical in power and weight. I prefer the .82 as it likes to swing a bigger prop. I have one that I've run probably 20 gallons through and it's never needed anything other than the occasional plug. I check the valves every few gallons and they rarely need adjusting (which takes less than 5min). It's been the best running, most reliable glow engine I've run.

RE: NX 22X8 Help!
My old DA 50 (newest version) turned an NX 22x8 at 7000 RPM with a Slimline pitts muffler out of the box on its first run up. After break in, it was a solid 7200RPM. I later switched to a stock DA muffler and the RPM jumped to just over 7300RPM. For comparisons sake, it turned an NX 23x8 at 6900RPM and a PT Models 23x8 at 6700RPM. FWIW, I’m currently running an older DA50 (carb diaphragm facing down) and it’s not quite as strong but runs much more consistently. I haven’t tried a 22x8, but it turns an MSC 23x8 (actually measured 23.5) at 6300RPM. The MSC props load the engine much more than others, in my experience. I may try a 22x8 this weekend out of curiosity. I’m basically at sea level, so my numbers may be a bit skewed.

RE: 3W 100 quits in Knife Edge
For what it's worth, a buddy of mine has an old 3W 100 that's been through hell and back and it runs perfectly at all attitudes at all speeds. I had a 3W 85 (same carb, I believe) that would load up in knife edge, but only if the low end needle was a little too rich. It never actually came close to deadsticking, but it would spit and sputter badly. It sounds like the same type of issue you have, but not nearly as severe. Interested to see what the carb will do for you!
