RE: Goldberg Tiger Club
A Saito 72 would be plenty, but thats just my opinion. I had a Saito 100 on my Tiger 60 and it could go straight up no problems. Andy

This should be fun, I cleaned up the Super Tigre and after getting all the dust off it looks like brand new. I really don't know if it's ever seen fuel. I have and older .45 with a round head, same situation, the piston and liner are bright silver, no sign of fuel or carbon. The older .45 will need bearings though, not very smooth. Andy

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Dave, Do you have a 1.25? If so what size props have you run on it with what ind of results? Really interested if you have run a Graupner 15x8 3 blade on anything and what other props you compared it to. This is actually for my little Mintor but I know you have run a lot of props. I can run a 16x8 MA K series up around 8700 rpm's. Looking to load it up a little more. Maybe bring the rpm's down to about 7800-8200. I was trying to search the forum but it won't let me search re:deleted. Andy

I have never tried ATF,good old green anti freeze heated for slow cooking not boiling does very well. You need to keep the parts submerged or the exposed areas will discolor.
ORIGINAL: Sport_Pilot
and soak in denatured alcohol
Better yet soak it in fuel or mineral spirits. The methanol in denatured oil is not good for the aluminum parts, the oil in our fuel counters that. Castor oil and WD 40 both congeal and freeze up an engine. Siince WD 40 is a mixture of oil and mineral spirits, then mineral spirits should disolve the congealed wd 40. WD 40 is probably the worst oil you can use for long term storage. Use an undiluted oil, motor oil, machine oil, 3 in one, tranmission fluid all seem to work well.
Seems the fuel cuts the castor part better then mineral spirits.

Did you boil it or simmer it? If you get the anti freeze to hot it will start to discolor the aluminum. You want to used the good old fashioned green anti freeze.

Usually the warming will soften the hardened castor oil and some thing alcohol based will help remove it. Sounds like a warn anti freeze bath might be in the future. Deffinatly double check the bearings at the very least. Andy

RE: DLE 55-RA
ORIGINAL: acerc Dessert Aircraft does not state they manufacture anything. There manual say's they designed the crank, piston, and cylinder's. And that those part's were manufactured for DA. Does not say manufactured by DA. So where are these part's actually manufactured? And why is there only a 2 year warranty in the states when europen warrenties are 5 years. HMMMMM

ORIGINAL: daltonaviation
ORIGINAL: Piston Hey All The 23/10 will swing about at about 6700-6900 depending on the prop combo. As T3beatz states the engine will also swing the 24/8. It all depends on the airframe and what you want to do with it in the air! You will not go wrong with the 23/10. I have a selection of props every time I fly a new plane, and I will ''dial'' in the engine/prop combo over a couple of weeks of flying. The 50cc pics that T3beatz posted. Interesting eh!!!!! There ARE 2 versions of the RCGF 50cc. One has the cast crankcase and one is cnc'd out of billet aluminum. The one posted on the zrcgf. com site is the cast crankcase. This is because the we are still testing and evaluating the new model engine. Still some minor issues, that we are working through with the factory, and it will be ready for prime time. We will be updating the web site with the new model very shortly. Our next shipment will have the Aerovate 50cc B engine complete with all the mods/tweaks in 'em. It will update the current 50cc line. We are very particular about releasing an engine to our customers until it has the Aerovate quality aspect that we expect. The Aerovate engines are spec'd and built by the factory to specific standards that we have developed. As to the appearance of the engines looking like the DA.... YUP......in fact they are DA cylinders. There are only 2 cylinder manufacturers in China, that make 'em for ALL 2 stroke engines (this includes lawnmowers, chainsaws, weedeaters etc etc etc). The factory picked the cylinder. The Aerovate 62cc.... it uses the same cylinder as the G62 engine..... The Aerovate engines are not knockoffs, but do have similarities with other engines. The engineering INSIDE the engines is what makes and sets them apart. The performance aspects of the engines are mostly leaders and not followers. The XYZ and Turnigy are one and the same. I have few comments on these engines. The TBZ props are produced by the boys that used to run/own the XOAR props and left to pursue other opportunities. Great looking props. (Both of them!!!!) Both are GREAT performers too. Cheers Henry
Hi guys. I came across this thread and showed some of the comments to my boss. Here is his reply: Hello Henry Sorry to cut in on a non-Desert Aircraft related thread, but I take issue with some of the statements you have made here and at the WRAM trade show. ''As to the appearance of the engines looking like the DA.... YUP......in fact they are DA cylinders'' This is not true. DA cylinders are designed by Desert Aircraft and are cast under exclusive contract in several different foundries located in California, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Taiwan. Any final machining is done here at our factory in Tucson. If it matters to anyone, we do not contract with any manufactures based in mainland/communist China. Not knocking those that do. We just don't. We do not ''pick'' our cylinders off a cylinder manufacturer's shelf, nor are they available to be ''picked'' from any manufacturer's shelf. If anyone is procuring DA cylinders from a source other than Desert Aircraft, they are doing so illegally. 'There are only 2 cylinder manufacturers in China, that make 'em for ALL 2 stroke engines (this includes lawnmowers, chainsaws, weedeaters etc etc etc).'' As for only 2 manufacturers making two stroke cylinders in all of China? It seems I have been solicited by many more than that, weekly. Dave Johnson Desert Aircraft
This is an older post from another thread so things can chage. This does show that DA does do some of there own work, I just don't know how much. I do like to try and keep as much of my money in the US or at least countries I like. [:D] Andy

RE: Stinger II any good?
What size prop you running on the YS? I have this on electric. Depending on how much power your looking for will really dictate your set up. The plane flies very well with a 42-60-800kv motor, 12x8 3 blade Master Aitscrew prop on a 4s 5000mah lipo. I tried this on a couple differant E props, but was not very happy. Andy

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
Bob, With a slight? Modification by the bush it was truly a flying stick or sticks. [:D] I would have to look again but I think a few people complained about the same thing on the GP Stick. The bad spot on the H9 Twist was right at the back of the canopy, the have been known to crack there on the .60 size. I think this would be a really good airframe for a 20cc gas engine also. What I would do to a GP Stick is remove a little covering off the bottom and go about 2 inches before the tail, then ad a 3/32" piece of ply wood. This would strengthen the plane and be a good place to mount a tail wheel. These might be cool but not sure if Hobbypeople will have them back in stock or not. http://www.hobbypeople.net/index.php/giant-stick-120-23cc-v-blue-78-7-2m-span-arf.html This one is from Texasrcplanes.com Tell me what that resembles ??? Bob, Glad you caught that and pointed it out. I have the .40 size Stik and it did the same thing after aboutn20 flights.
