RE: ...Royal SRS here (UK)
I am working with mine and for Futaba. No SBUS 2 connection is made between the Royal and the receiver. The SBUS 2 connection still comes straight out of the receiever. It is very neat how the unit has auto detection, so it knows exactly which servo you are using for the I Gyro portion of the powerbus. Just remember to assign your input from your receiver is coming output 8 and you are in Mode B and do final step of holding in the link button until it flashes red/green. Brain fart for me. Still have some more setup to do but it is a great new asset to my A-10. See you Mike at Princeton in the fall. Alan

RE: Some more
ORIGINAL: Pepperpete My god...that smile has GOT to go. I'm more creeped out than anything...*shivers* Very cool but I can't think of a single person I know personally (including all of the Princeton Jet Rally guys) that has anything in 1/4 scale. It's just too large. Great idea but very small market.
Glen I can't think of any either, then at least 4 Comp Arf Tutors that are going to be there. :)

RE: 2012 Jets Over Whidbey - Coupeville, WA - Who's In!
Well Jean and I have just arrived in Kamloops for day 1 of the two day trip back home to Calgary. Just wanted to say few words of thanks to the great people that put on another winner of a rally at Whidbey Island again, this year. Thank you Bill and Roberto for doing so well as CD's for this year's version of JOW. Thanks to Tom Berry for doing his outstanding job of behind scenes work of organizing meals for us pilots and the great Saturday night banquet at the CPO club. Speaking of Tom again, well done on your presentation of your dream flight on the B-25 anniverary flight of Doolitle's raiders to Dayton. And thanks to Bob and Tom again for being hangar's for the Tutor and the Eurosport. Lastly thanks to all the volunteers of the Whidbey Island club, that do all the things you do so that us pilots can just enjoy our selves at your fine facility. Now to watch a little tele and have some sleep and continue the last of the trip home tomorrow. Hope all you others have had as safe trip as we have so far. See as many as we can of you again in Princeton in a few short weeks. Alan and Jean

RE: Futaba S-Bus system
Want know if there is any truth to this at all. You fellows have been using them, and I am thinking about using them. Is it true that there are some heating issues when installing an S bus system into an airframe? Thank you for your comments in advance.

RE: Futaba S-Bus system
Pardon my question here fellows, but how are you using the Power Box, Smart Fly or any either type of power management system, being wired and still making use of the single conductor system that feeds the hubs? Are you just managing the battery power only? Not understanding. Pictures may help my thick brain. Thank you Alan

In one of the videos you can see the fin falling off a jet, so here are some frames of fin falling off. The pilot did land the jet without any other damage. RE: spektrum vs JR
ORIGINAL: tomfiorentino Remember too that JR's newest stuff (DSSM) is not backwards compatible with all the specktrum gear. I have always flown with JR and have been using some of the high torque hitec servos... I really like the transmitter cases on JR and the way the gimbals feel...I just always liked them. But I am not very happy at all with the way JR (and some will say Horizon) has been bouncing around in the marketplace the last several years. You don't need hopping, except send the radio in and for 75 bucks you can use it at ''really big RC events'', the satelite recievers are the best....make sure you mount each receiver on a different axis for absolute bullet proof RF link...except now their newest receivers don't have satelites. There are others.... All of this stuff has worked fine for me; that isn't the point. Also, I don't see myself moving away from JR although these antics (my word) has challenged my comittment to the brand. But I don't like having different gear at this point. In fact with my last JR purchase I was attempting to move forward with standardizing everything on 2.4 and I thought the Spektrum compatibility was a bonus. With JR's latest change, I'm in the same boat. THey have just been too capricious with the gear and when stuff isn't compatible, you leave the end consumer in a bind. Moving from 72 to 2.4 is a totally different system...that is a big change that consumes either migrate too or not. YOu can't expect that to be compatible. But this has been a 2.4 system, to a new and improved 2.4 system to a different 2.4 system that isn't compatible anymore. That's not right. So what do you buy...they are all good...the transmitter cases on JR are very, very nice in my opinion and the JR servos are killer but sometimes not the right pricepoint for me right now. On the hihger end radios it may come down to what software you feel is the most user firendly. If you can, have someone at your club show you how to navigate the menus and screens on a FUtaba and do the same for JR...you may feel more comfortable with the user interface on one over the other. From a reliability standpoint...you can't go wrong anywhere on this stuff. Good luck to you... Tom
Tom I do agree with a lot of your comments. One thing that is very noticable, that there is only 1 year warranty with Spectrum products as compared to the 3 year warranty with JR products. I have been a long time JR user for over 20 years and there products have always done the job for me. I have Spectrum receivers in park flyers and the 9100's in all my gassers and even a few in my jets. Never have they left me questioning the confidence of my radio equipment. I have been looking at the DX 18 as well. I have the chance to buy one right now. I looked at all those useable channels and thought that I could get rid of 3 matchboxes right now. The problem I have is was the JR/Spectrum trail we were led on with DSM, DSM2, DSMX and DSSS a manufacture's way of pulling more money out of it's customer's pockets. If you think about it we evolved from 72 to 2.4(big jump for most of us), then the first 2.4 is not good enough, then go to the next and then to the next and finally to frequency hopping, as the major competitor orginally went to in the first place. It is beginning to look like JR/Spectrum made a rush to get into the 2.4 market and maybe they should have just went into the frequency hopping in the first place, and we would have been there and not have to go through all there growing pains. I think that JR/Spectrum are lucky that they have the large following they do or they may have caused themselves a real problem. Again I am loyal product user, but my same question is should I jump at the DX18 that is DSMX or wait for the JR 18 that will most likely have DSSS which I understand, is the full frequency hopping system? My opinion. Alan

RE: Viper 2m Bites the Dust
Hey Bill That was a tough one to spot for. Sure was a nice looking Viper though. Do you think you will build another one? Don't beat yourself up too badly about it. You won't be the first or the last to make a mistake. As I said on the way back from the site, when you start doing things out of your normal flying routine, it can make you miss things. Unfortunately this was a tough miss. I have never stuffed foam in the intakes or exhaust, but I could see myself making the same mistake if I didnt flag it. Hope the rest of your flying season will be a good one and we look forward to seeing you at JOW 2012. Alan

RE: CARF CT-114 Tutor 2.6m Build thread
Hi fellows thanks for the suggestions. I will inspect the brakes and check the O rings. I have in the past put O ring lube on the Intarico the same as the BVM wheels. I do believe this is Ok. I will check radio settings as well on my 12X to make sure my expo is up at 70%. Another good suggestion about getting some weight on the mains by having more back pressure on the elevator. The problems I have had is when building up speed on the take off roll and just before rotation. Alan

RE: CARF CT-114 Tutor 2.6m Build thread
Has anyone had any ground handling issues on the take off roll on pavement. On two occassions now I have had serious problems where the jet wants to veer off the runway on the take off roll. I am just finishing up the fixing up of the second occassion's damage and don't want to have another. I do believe all the stock settings were installed. Maybe I should have more expo or less throw in the nosewheel. The last time I also had a gyro installed on the nosewheel, but I don't know if I had enough sensitivity dialed in. I think with the big tail and broad fuselage it could be easily turned by a crosswind. I have had no problems taking it off of grass. Any ideas or settings you would suggest. Thanks Alan

RE: CARF CT-114 Tutor 2.6m Build thread
ORIGINAL: tucson Hi All, After a 5 month delay (medical Problems)I finally maidened my C/A Tutor today. The good news is it took off and flew beautiful. It required no trim adjustments. After about 4 minutes I decided to land to check things out. I have a lot of flap dialed in but it still would not come down. it kept going and going and going. it finally settled on the nose wheel and bent the strut back and bounced back in the air. I did a go around, forgot to put the flaps up so that became interesting. It all worked out okay. My second approach was on the money and much slower. I still hit the nose wheel first again. I have to say I can't remember hitting the nose wheel on any of my jets in the past. I am sure I am doing something wrong, I know I need to get the nose up on landing. Maybe I am coming in way to fast. I am open for any suggestions from any of you who have and are flying the Tutor. What is the secret? Are any of you using Crow? Thanks for any suggestions and information you can give me. Stan
Stan Trying going through Peter at Altecare RC he should be able to fix you up for gear. He may not have it in stock, but he will get it faster for you from the suppplier, as Comp ARF may wait until they have a boatload of product before they have it shipped. Good luck Alan

RE: Comp-ARF Tutor Smoke Tanks & Pylons!!
Mark Access is good to have for repair reasons. So if I am understanding you correctly the finish paint will not be on the tanks when they are sent? I am assuming that whoever painted the tanks may have used the Composite Arf touch up paint for the finish. I got a tip from another Canadian about using Comp Arf paints, that they are good for touch up only and not that good for doing major refinishing. He said that he got the same effects as you described. Thanks for the update Alan

Hi Mark Will the smoke tanks be fully functional? I had a lot of fun flying mine this weekend. Since I have the two spray nozzles for smoke it doesn't take too long to blow it all out. I would have some interest in the tanks. When you are little closer with a confirmed price let me know. Thanks for doing the preliminary work on this. Alan

Hi Lasse Thanks for the pictures of your event. How many aircraft and pilots attended. Looks like you had really good numbers. Is your draw from just the Scandanavian countries or Europe as well. If it is all from Scandanaivia, the jet scene is doing well and thriving there. Good flying this year. Alan

RE: I CRASH MY FAI BAO F-18 TODAY
Yes I had an f-18 do the same thing. It was a very pretty bug and a tough thing to have happen. Same thing as David desribed. The nose was low, the throttle was brought up but I guess not quit quick enough and just like you, there was not enough error altitude when you turn from base to final. I think that one thing is more critical on this airframe than others is the C of G. This is what others have told me from various emails and pm's. Mine was a complete airframe loss. I felt sorry for my friend who was flying it. I think you have to be thinking ahead of it on the landing sequence, if not it will bite you. The next one will be a C model. The first was a Super Hornet. Mine has been gone 3 years now but it is still a tough one to swallow. I know what you are feeling. Sorry for your loss as well. Good luck on the next one. Alan

RE: Anyone using Details4Scale Canopy Sequencer Need some help
Hey I found a great way of finding the pulse width that is to be used when installing the after market accessories you may want to install on your jets when wanting it to trigger from a 2.4 radio channel. Dean Wichmann suggested it to me and it is just too simple. Just use your ECU and teach the channel you want to use from your tx and then take and adjust it from the ATV from that radio channel and dial it within the parameters that your accessory product works on. For example Dan says that most of his chip sets work on a trigger of 1000 to 2000 ms. He suggested I try and stay within 1100 to 1800. I dialed this into the radio ATV and when the numbers came up on the GSU of 1100 and 1800 it worked first time. Great idea Dean. I think that at least deserves a beer at Princeton in June. Alan

Hope it's not a dud. Still going to keep working with it. Got rid of all the 72 stuff a couple of years ago. That's one thing that Dan has said that 2.4 has made it more interesting for him and guys like me trying to get the accessories and my TX working together. He said that 72 never gave some of the problems in this case that 2.4 does. Alan

RE: Anyone using Details4Scale Canopy Sequencer Need some help
Hi George Thanks for replying. Yes I have tried a different channel one of the lower proportional ones and no luck. I am going to run it through my cockpit powerbox. I thought that I would get it going direct to the receiver first. I am so far using it in a R1221. Haven't tried another receiver yet, but that is a thought. I do have another 1221 I could try. Thanks Alan

Anyone using Details4Scale Canopy Sequencer Need some help
HI fellows I was wondering if there is anyone out there that is operating Dan's Canopy Sequencer on 2.4 and perferably a JR 12x. Dan and I have been trying to troubleshoot this problem. I can't get it all programned by not getting the sequencer to pick up the pulse from the transmitter. Dan has suggested going through the ATV of the channel I am using in the tx, but at+/-150% on each side of the switch there are many combinations it could be. And to be honest I have tried to already for some time and haven't had any luck. I have used just the standard programing of the sequencer. The Autochute II I have might not be programed to direct the sequencer and that is fine, I think I have enough channels to work with it that way . So if anyone has some suggestions to pick up the pulse I would appreciate it. Or you have had success with your ATV adjustments and could give me your numbers I would appreciate that as well. I have got it set on the Aux. 5 channel which I think is not proportional on the 12x, but Dan wasn't sure if that would be an issue or not. I tried getting some of Patrick Frosts settings but he can't remember that far back when setting up his F-100. Hoping someone can give a hand. Thanks Alan
