+1 Axials tend to last a little bit longer and dont get the blueish tone that some others due to the fact of heat. I have always used ofna shoes and have no complains so far...

RE: Anyone Own a RT-X 27?
ORIGINAL: j.newton007 How much does the Buku usually cost? And Alffa, I have that same engine and was wondering would the engine performance be any different than the JP-2 that I have on it now. Also, what kinda engine temps do you get with that pipe. I'm sure you run yours as hard as I run mine if not harder. I'm not a hard core RC'er, so if there's just a little better performance I might as well stick with what I've got. Thanks. JJN
[>:][>:][>:] Buuuuku all the way. I will tell you this... LRP.28 + Buku is a killer combo for the Warhead-RTX. I blew off like 4 diff crown gears and pinion gear too. I did everything that came to my mind to not blow the diffs but it was just impossible. maybe if you dont drive it too hard you will be able to not blow the diffs. More power and speed??? Hell yeah!!!! As jay said... the first time you hit the throtle you will notice it, and this is without even tuning the pipe. I was able to tune it for undriveable due to backfliping to a space rocket speeds. According to my experience this is the best pipe out there... no wonder why it isnt legal for pro racing. About temps... i drive this combo in my buggy, 30 minutes mains at full throtle and the highest temp i hit only once was 258 F and that was after 10 minutes of hard racing in order to get rid of the second place that was after my podium place [:D] Since i kept blowing diffs i changed everything to my racer (1/8 LRP buggy) and trust me it is the fastest truck in the track. I have some videos of the Buku + LRP.28 (truggy version) + LRP Buggy in youtube, just search for LRP Buggy or/and Buku Pipe. I have one video that shows the buggy sitting on the starter box and reving high... just hear the sound that Buku puts out!

Cool! I am glad you liked how that pipe performs. Did you get a nice header? Was it easy to tune?... i spent a few hours trying the different setups but once i found the perfect combination for the LRP.28 this thing really shows what it is made of!!!! hahahaha

RE: Anyone Own a RT-X 27?
Sorry.. my fault. I didnt read it very well.[8|][8|] Trannys never ever get oiled. Diffs instead should be filled with diff oil as i wrote in my last post. SORRY.... my mistake Thank you for your coments StoneCrab... i got confused and thought that JayRec was talking about diffs (thats why i recomended some oil for the front and another one for the rear). And as you say... a tranny will never hold oil inside. Just use some light lube and actualy it can run without any grease at all... ist plastic anyway. Once i put some medium coat of graphited grease to the gears and when i opened the tranny some weeks later the gears didnt have any grease... because of the high speed spinning they just trew all the grease into the trannys case walls.

RE: Anyone own a Warhead?
ORIGINAL: JayRec I am trying to figure out how to remove the reverse from my Warhead as well. What is involved? So far I have the servo and arm out but the metal slider is still there. Do I have to completely remove the tranny and open it up to get that out of there?
YEP, there is no other way... you have to take out the whole tranny, open it and get the FOC Shaft from tower. The FOC Shaft comes with ilustrated instructions so there is no chance you will get lost there. Doing this will let you understand how the tranny works, including the two speed clutch. Just follow the instructions that come with the shaft and averything should be ok... just watch out with the pin that holds the clutch... be sure to use the one that comes with the FOC shaft. If you have any questions just ask. This change is 100% worth the hassle.

It starts on the first or second pull, havent seen temps above 220 which kinda worries me cause that seems too low? I took ALFFA's advice and tightened the shift point screw about 3/4 turns in and that made a huge difference, it takes about 40 to 50 ft. before it shifts now, Thanks ALFFA! RE: Anyone Own a RT-X 27?
ORIGINAL: bushhiker I took the rear diff apart today and wow what a job! There seemed to be grease in it but not much the Hmmm... you see... for sure that was causing the "feeling the gears" thing you felt. This is the way to go: 1. Fill the diff cups ONLY, dont use oil for the pinion - crown gear. If you put oil in there that thing will leak no matter what and it will be a total mess. 2. Use this oil combo: 7K front and 5K rear. (AE oils work great and are cheap) 3. Fill the cups almost full but leave a little space, otherwise the diffs will leak do tue dinamic preassure 4. I found that graphite tends to dry with the time and that sort of dries the o-rings too... use EA Green slime, that thing is the best for orings (every racer uses it) 5. Put the same green slime in the pinion and ring gear, it will stay on the gears and lubricates really well 6. Check for the proper mesh "pinion-ring gear", it shouldnt have too much play but neithet too tight. If they have some play you can use 1 or 2 0.1mm shims REMEMBER TO PUT LOCTITE ON THE SMALL SCREW THAT GOES INTO THE CUP, IF NOT IT WILL ALWAYS LEAK!!! One last tip... yo can go to a hardware store and get "better screws" for holding the crown gear to the diff cup. I discovered this after getting my first buggy, all buggies come with longer screws that have a much rougher, bigger, sharper thread. The screws that come with the RTX are kind of short and the thread is a very fine thread, get the same diameter screws but with a more agresive (course) thread, like the ones used for wood. This will hold the crown gear much tighter to the cupp avoiding leakage. That should have you covered, just be sure to check the seals are in good shape. Usually i change gaskets and orings every time i open my diffs... in my MTs and my racing buggies. I heard that revo orings work a lot better, just check if you can compare them at your LHS (if you have one near) and get them.

RE: Anyone Own a RT-X 27?
SWEEET!!! What engine did it came with? SH engines have a tight pinch, all you will need to add to the LRP procedure is a heat gun or hair dryer for the first 10 tanks or so. Well... its not a must but will give your engine a longer life. If engines are too cold when firing them up, they will stress the conrod a lot, by heating them you reduce stress on the conrod and it starts very easy comparred to "non preheated engines". Just a good tip that will make your engine last a few more gallons. About shocks.... hmmm.. i have 8 hole pistons, no valves (not sure if RTR version has them), 45 front, 35 rear, stiff springs. BUT i heard the truggy needs to be setup a little diferent. Maybe we can change to the other forum so we can discuss this the proper way. I have the feeling someone will kick us out if we dont talk about our Warheads / RTX in here. [:D] Ill PM you

RE: Anyone Own a RT-X 27?
Have you checked if the diffs has some oil? My diffs came completely dry (a few years ago) and thats te way they were coming out of the factory. Have you also checked for bearings? If depends on how you "feel the gears", if your bearing got wet and you didnt clean them afterwards, then it would be worth to check if they move freely. Spin one tire forward and the other backwards, then hold one tire and spin the other in both ways, then repeat the same for the other tire. Then spin both tires forward and then backwards... if you "feel the gears" in every test then it is the diffs for sure. Its a pain to take out the diffs but i think you might have to do that. Get back to us with your report.

RE: Anyone Own a RT-X 27?
Hmmm... this isnt a toy! Just remember that, Your problem is 100% tuning. Factory settings are too rich... they are set so, so you can break in the engine with no problems. After break in you wont be able to run it properly if you keep the factory settings. That bogging thing when braking is due to a bad low speed needle calibartion. Go to your LHS and ask them to tune the carb for you.... or ask a friend with experience to do so. If you go back to pages 20 to 25 maybe you can find my explanation to fine tuning carbs... or just use the "search this thread" tool and search for "tuning". Did you seal your engine? Before trying anything else you should seal it and check for oils leaks and air bubbles in the fuel line.

Nica Ambassador! What clutch bell are you using? It sound like it is shifting too soon, i think you can get a little bit more out of the first gear... try adjusting the shift point and you will be happier and you will register lower temps too.

Really? Congrats. TRUST ME... best purchase ever.... those things have an incredible engineering .... 100 times better than you are probably used to.. if you know what i reffer to. The best forums for that car are in the z-carusa web page and the buggy forum in rctech. I can gladly help you... that thing has exactly the same basis as the buggy but longer and wider. Did you get it RTR??? If not... you will enjoy and have a wonderfull time building the car!!! Just send me an email if you have any questions. If you need all the setup sheets and feedback about performance and handling you can contact Paul, he put togehter his and started racing it like 3 weeks ago, he is a great guy that will help you!

RE: Anyone Own a RT-X 27?
How about bearings? check for worn out bearings... those can cause a lot of binding. Your diffs??? Have you ever checked if they have some lube in them? Brakes??? are you sure your brakes are 100% free when you hit the throtle? Did you change your tires to bigger ones??? What fuel brand? Also check for dirt in the needles.... do you use a fuel filter?

RE: Anyone Own a RT-X 27?
Hmmm... how much did you lengthened it? That might be the reason. I was having the same problem with the servo horns and i decided alu horns was the way to solve it. After that the problem transfered to the servo gears and i had to change them like 3 times. Finally i had to re adjust the end points (with digital futaba) and the problem was gone.

RE: Anyone Own a RT-X 27?
Hmmm.... those 109 buck do really pay off right!!!! Jjajajaj... i told you buku was the way to go! Jay, be carefull... its better to strip servo horns than servo gears. If you are stripping the horn probably your steerign setup is not right, at some point it must binding or your end point is way too open. If you dont check on that an alu horn will hold but you will find yourself replacing servo gears... average 20 bucks the gear kit. What radio are you using? Stock?

RE: Anyone Own a RT-X 27?
Not a problem at all... that engine works fine at that temperature. Just in case you didnt fully read the instructions "book" that comes with the pipe.... "this pipe needs the needles of the carb to be slightly riched due to the higher flow of gases". This means that the engine will breath a lot easier which is one of the principles of the pipe, so if it is expelling gases in a higher volume it also needs some more juice to burn and keep the same temperatures. Did you richen the HS needle? Anyways... 260 is a very good temp... as far as it dont passes 275 dont worry and if it does from time to time then it is ok too.
ORIGINAL: JayRec Hey all I took the truck out with the buku pipe on it today and after following the initial setup I was running at about 230 - 240 temps. I started to tune the pipe's tension spring and noticed that the temps went up slightly to about 265. Is that a safe temp for the Axial .28? I still have lots of smoke so I am not sure. Anyone have any ideas?
RE: Anyone Own a RT-X 27?
Darn.... first of all check if you didnt strip the thread from the case too. Maybe you tightened it more than necesarry and then all it needed was some vibration to strip the screw thread. Even so i would contact axial and request a new one! Is it only the screw that was fu*** up? If so try fo replace it with one laying around from an old engine... your LHS should have one if they have a workshop, if not at your local track. Maybe the super pooper´s fits? [8|]
