Its quite an improvement over the f4.6, allthough my f engine can idle all day long. I am considering getting a full mod picco 28 for my revo from niel. Its up in the air. From what i have heard they tune beautifully, break in easily (hand lapped piston) and loads of power. not too concerned about the driveline as 1. I like repairing as much as driving and 2. the driveline handles the mmm in the erevo albiet the trans differences. -scott
that is the issue I found too with the non insulated carbs.... to make them run decent the low end needs to be set very rich...so rich in fact that it wont idle very well...if you try to tune for a good idle when sitting the engine will be far too lean to run properly...no matter what you do you will struggle to find a sweet spot in the tune...myself I could not get my 30 to tune properly which is a big reason why I am not a fan of the engine....
Hey Neil - did you receive my PM?

Also check your fuel tank for cracks, your clutch for proper alignment as well

RE: Engine Options 2012?
ORIGINAL: HerrSavage Breaking in a new 454 I got really cheap, and really happy with my choice.. Only have four tanks through it, and during the last tank I was getting on the throttle a bit, and after shifting to second the truck started going out of control almost..(on pavement..) Very happy.. 89 bucks new.. If I were to get anything else for next year for my LST2's, it'd be an LRP 30. I'm comfortable with the LRP engines for bashing MT's - good price, easy to break in and tune, and if one blows up, no biggie - they're cheap.. I don't care about hopping my MT's up to the nines. Just want them to run and be uncomplicated, and for me the LRP's are perfect for that.. There are a bunch of the RB 28's going cheap here at the moment.. (as in 100 bucks..) But even then, I'm pretty decided - no need to stray from what I know does the job.. Just invested in a new buggy for racing anyway.. I'd be keen to see a vid of yours though..
No worries - I'll get a video of mine over Christmas, got another with the LRP 28 in so will be able to see them running together - both are fine engines, but the Picco is better, but then again it costs more. I had the cash from a couple of sales so stuck my neck out and bought one, for me it was a good choice, and does give unrivaled power, however, if I hadn't my LRP would have done me fine

RE: Engine Options 2012?
ORIGINAL: supertib All the stock 28's are dogs....... they have the timing on the engines too low to make any serious power......These italian engine companies don't have much faith in the tuning skills of the MT crowd so they back the timing down to make the engines more forgiving to tune...... The engine designs are awesome, but they are detuned quite a bit from their full potential.....
If you have the cash then ask Supertib about his Clockwork Picco 28 - I did, bought one, and seem to have a stupid grin on my face for days after running it. These engines are really well tuned, none of the bad things you normally associate with Nitro, just easy starting, nice tune, awesome power. I have an LRP 28, which as is known is a quick motor, but it is a snail compared to my Clockwork Picco

RE: Forward & Reverse help.
The twitch is probably the trigger on your TX, hold it at half way then move it side to side, it will more than likely twitch more or less. If you have a compressor gently blow the TX as dust in the trigger track can cause this. For EPA on forward reverse, this is different for different servos, but as a rule it will need to be held firmly in either position by the servo without excessive servo hum.

RE: LST Rebuild
ORIGINAL: Muskokarc Anyone use third party clutch systems??
Give Mitch at [link=http://www.m2cracing.com]M2C Racing[/link] a call. A few of us helped him fine tune his 4 shoe clutch for the LST, comes with different shoes, and is a far better set up than stock. Also, his adjustable engine mount is a must when using the 4 shoe clutch - holds my Clockworked Picco power down very well, when the stock used to slip

Have you broke the engine in and tuned it. If it shuts down when you try to move might be rich.

RE: HELP with xxl :@
This is 'engine pinch' You want this as it means the engine is good. You say you checked the plug in a dark cupboard. You should be able to see it glowing in sunlight. Might be you need to invest in a proper glo igniter. The Losi one that comes with it is useless. I tried it with a Duracell battery and couldn't get the plug to glow.

More than likely an air leak somewhere. A few things to check [ul] [*] Fuel Lines are fitting tight and not split [*] Fuel Tank is not split [*] Exhaust Gasket is not split / and exhaust is sitting right [*] Engine Head is screwed down tight [/ul]

Mmmm - I've tried a few different fuels, O'Donnell's 30% Race included, but the Nitrotane still has the edge, plus it is clear in colour so you don't get any of the coloured residue build up.

RE: Ripping up my diffs
ORIGINAL: RCtruckRacer
ORIGINAL: HPI_Savage_RC You shouldn't be stripping LST diffs under ANY circumstances. Every LST owner on this forum has told me that they don't break, so I don't know what the problem is??????????? Maybe you should try using Savage diffs. They use aluminum cases and hardened steel cross pin supports after all.
I certainly do not remember telling you this. And I bought an LST back in July of 2004 (2005? mr memory here...) when they first came out. Talk about diff problems - the plastic cases failed almost immediately. But today I realize that I had the brakes adjusted so it would do stoppies. If I had the brake dialed back a bit, no doubt the cases would have lasted a bit longer. But still, the aluminum cases are a must and that was one of the upgrades on the LST2. The real issue came about sometime around 2007 or so when Losi parts either were made by a new company or a different plastic formula was used. Parts looked different - the color was a shade or two off from what they used to be and some parts started coming on trees when they didn't used to. That was when I started having problems with the diff housings. The plastic used was not as durable. Or at least that's the way it seemed to me. One of the reasons that the Savage is able to withstand heavy abuse is that it is good at flexing on impact. This is a purposeful design that mitigates the stress from the impact across multiple parts. However, the trade off is gear mesh. Flexing changes the mesh and can propagate the demise of different gears in the drivetrain. Like everything in R/C (and life for the most part) its a trade off. Making sure not to hit the brakes or the throttle on impact will help in the longevity of any drivetrain, but especially so on the Savage. Finally, it is not copacetic to go into any particular forum and antagonize the users therein. I have no idea why it is you feel the need to be so confrontational, but it needs to stop. And this goes for anyone here that might feel like retaliating in the Savage forums. This is just not acceptable behavior. As an MT racer, I feel like we should all be supporting each other. Our class is dying a quick death and it is my biggest disappointment in all of RC. So to see this useless bickering really pushes my buttons. I'll be happy to lock the thread if people feel like they cannot refrain from antagonizing each other. Rob
Post edited, read between the lines, I'll leave it at that, this forum is good, and I do not want to cause or get into any sort of flame war. Regardless of make, we MT owners ned to stick together, we are becomming a dying breed, but I'm sure people will return to MT's one day.

RE: I hate Revenues and Customs.
ORIGINAL: Tommygunn792 You've actually done alright, considering, as it could have been higher. I'm assuming that you imported the truck from the US. Therefore, I'm guessing that £470 is the conversion from US$? Anyway: US$ amount(inc P+P) = £500 inc postage (£30, my estimate) Therefore: (£500 + 4.7%(Import duty bracket - see below)) + 15% VAT = £602.03 £602.03 - £500 = £102.03 What you should have paid!!!!! The 4.7% import duty amount is worked out from the main EU website that all EU customs adhere to: http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/dds/cgi-bin/tarsect?ProdLine=00&Type=&Action=1&Lang=EN&SimDate=20071029&YesNo=1&Indent=-1&Flag=1&Test=tarsect&Periodic=0&Download=0&Taric=&taric=Browse&Country=&Day=29&Month=10&Year=2007 I went with the code 9503007500: toys and models with a motor, of plastics. Note: You could even contact the customs office, usually Coventry Hub and insist that it is a model 'of other material' Taric code 9503007900 as that has a 0% import tax duty. There is no getting out of VAT, only adjusting or zeroing the import duty amount. Also make sure that they have calculated after converting US$ to UK£ because there have been occasions where people have ordered stuff and have been charged on £200 when the documents said $200 so you should have been charged on approx £125 after conversion!! Also, stuff, whatever it may be, always seems to get nabbed far more often coming from the US as opposed to anywhere else in the world. P.s. this is only applicable to imports into the EU, won't help rest of world. Oh yeah, one last thing. If it is being delivered by Royal Mail/Parcel Force then expect to pay an extra charge of approx £13.50, maybe more now. This is known 'lift finger tax' or 'get off arse tax' - no kidding.
Very interest and informative post. I know what you mean about the 'lift finger tax' from Parcel Force lol
