RE: ARF kit or scratchbuild a clipped wing taylorcraft?
Nigel Tarvin of Tarvin Model Products purchased the Reid's line of plans and accessories. You couldn't do business with a nicer person! You just have to put struts on your TC when you get it done, even if it doesn't need them to hold the wings in place. Just wouldn't look proper without them.

RE: SOARING USA??WHAT ARE THEY THINKING!!!
Hard for me to make a determination of damage as a consequence of shipment or outright 'fraud' as you put it. I wouldn't want the damaged goods, either and would just get a refund thru credit card. Life is short. Get this over and fly! BTW- I build my own and do not purchase ARFs. I am going to mold a Phoebus very soon but it will never be for sale even though I will have made all of the molds. I prefer Vintage Wood, however.

RE: SOARING USA??WHAT ARE THEY THINKING!!!
Maybe... just maybe, a government customs official (either yours or ours... possibly both) damaged the contents after inspection! I have ordered from Soaring USA without problems. Remember, there are always three versions of a scenario: yours, theirs and the true one!!!! I think proclaiming fraud for God and everyone else to see isn't helping your case. I wish you the best in the resolution of your problem.

RE: Military colors only at warbird meets?
It behooves the entrant with the 'sketchy' model to ask the CD prior to making the trip to the event, IMHO. They know who they are... That way no moaning and groaning will be justified! BTW, I voted military scheme only even though I like warbird racing planes.

I like the suicide door on the Chinese homebuilt! Remember, the Aeronca 7AC had a pull start engine so that wasn't innovative on the Chinese airplane! Wonder if it'll come to the USA as an ARF? Here's what I'd also like to build (again)... the name is self explanatory!

No worries, John! That's why I put the 'ha ha ha' and the 'lol' in my post. I am very reluctant to change thus my comments/ opinion! I used to race bicycles and like, Sean Kelly, was one of the last to change to clipless pedals! My peers used to laugh and make fun of me. Most of 'em weren't laughing after I put the hurt on 'em come race time! This is all fun and great braggin' rights! Cheers! P.S.- I still think the Graupner is the best lookin' radio out there!

RE: Radios
ORIGINAL: JohnBuckner Hmmm ''Last Radio I will ever need''. I can remember muttering that exact same phrase when I purchased this radio in 1970 from Brookhurst Hobbies, Anaheim Calfornia for 199.95. Oh my how wrong I was[X(] And there have been dozens litterally in the technology parade ever since right up to my last two radio purchases which were A9's (Oh man I sure do love that sexy gal they found for the voice to yell at me every time my airplane battery or tx battery is too low). Now due to the miracle of Hitecs 2.4 system I am able to use that old black tranny once agine and just flew it last weekend. Another nostagia kick to tell us how much better we have it these days. Nope If you are a true enthusiast there will never ever be a final ''last Radio''. John
Ha ha hah! Sir, you don't know me! lol So long as 2.4 continues then this will be IT!!!!!

RE: Need a Good Spray Gun
I use a Badger Model 400 touch up gun and Prime Air Model 2500 set at 30psi to the gun. They are over 10 years old. After trial and error the gun is set perfectly for 50/50 dope/ thinner mix. The downside is that the gun's paint cup is small and the compressor cycles a lot for bigger projects like what you want to paint. Since I'm never in a hurry I'm very happy with adding paint mix and waiting for compressor to get up to pressure. Most importantly, I'm happy with the results.

RE: Someone mentioned warped wing
Remember eating white paste as a kid? It smelled good... wonder why it didn't taste good. Inquiring minds want to know! Here's 108" span of glory assembled with wood glue. No warps, runs or cattywhompers! The third pic is an S-1 Ringmaster which is as straight as the theoretical line on a Cartesian Plane from point 'A' to point'B'. The fourth is another Ringmaster wing seen on edge. It's straight and I used yellow wood glue.

RE: PLANS NEEDED
Why don't ya just draw up sump'n? I had a Norvel 061 powered Homebuilt of 36" span (nice hobby stock length) and ~25" fuse length. The chord measures 6.5"(I've still got part of the wing- it crashed when I forgot to turn rec 'on'. Was trimmed well 'cause it flew about 20 seconds before hitting tree). The fuse was a 'box' of 3" square cross section at wing saddle. It only had 3 formers- firewall, LE and TE locations. It was all sheet. No rudder but could have easily incorporated it. No landing gear. It had strip ailerons, elevator and throttle.

RE: OS FS26???
Yes, those O.S. 26's are awful so mail it to me right away! I'll even pay postage to save you the grief! *wink* Seriously, they're great little engines. I flew a Curtiss 'Headless Pusher' of own design with one. It had a 48" span. Just think of it... 48" span AND two wings with all those struts and rigging 'wires' (fishing string). That '26 putt-putted' that Curtiss without any problems at all. It's only when I added floats that I realized I was asking too much... it never would unstick but it sure would motor around the lake in tidy fashion!!!! The pilot was articulated to move with the controls, too!

RE: Dope cover question
Good info above. Here's a 1/2A Ringmaster covered with K&S '00' silkspan. The silkspan was attached to airframe with nitrate dope. It was then given two coats of nitrate and then lightly sanded before getting butyrate dope applied with a spray gun. The next pics are of an airframe covered with Koverall attached with Stix-It. The weave of fabric was sealed with nitrate dope then butyrate dope sprayed onto it. Any questions then feel free to PM. Cheers!
