RE: DA150 Will not start
The battery checks good. It could be the ign switch, but I would expect it to cut off during flight or other times not just when I'm trying to start it if it were the switch.

DA150 Will not start
I have a DA150 that at times will not start. It usually starts the first couple of times, then about the third time I try to start it, it wont start. I usually choke it until it pops, then remove the choke and start it after 3-4 flips. When it won't start, sometimes it pops when choked, sometimes it doesn't. The carb seems to have gas in it, at least when you remove the choke, you get gas all over you hand. When I check the plugs they don't appear wet however, so I'm thinking it is not flooded. I have been having this problem all spring. I have replaced the iginition, replaced the carb, replaced the fuel line, checked the inside of the tank, hard wired the ignition(removed the DA furnished connector on the ignition.) Over the winter I did install cans, install a choke servo and replaced the fuel tank/fuel line. I have since removed the choke servo and replaced the fuel tubing again. I am not sure, but I think that it originally had large fuel line and used medium. Don't know if that could have anything to do with it. I am at a lost as what else to try...any suggestions??? Thanks

Are the ignitions on a DA 150 and a DA 100 the same? They look identical to me. Thanks, Bobby

Yes, that's the way it is on my 9C Super. I was hoping that this radio would be the same. The best that I can tell you can't select that switch however. My next thought is to open the case and see if I can physically move the switches. I have a set of heavier springs that I am going to put on the sticks if they will fit. I'll look at the switches when I have the case open.

Hey razr, good to hear from you again. I see where I can select Flap 2 or 0 in the manual for my dual rates. The switch that I am referring to is the switch labeled "Gear" on page 27 of the manual. Of course, on my radio it's labeled flt mode. Bobby

Spektrum - Aircraft vs Heli version
I have the Heli version and am setting up an airplane. I can not find any way to use the three way switch on the top left of the transmitter when in the airplane mode. It is labeled Flt Mode N, 1, 2. Does anyone know if this switch can be used in the airplane mode. I was hoping to use it for my dual rates.

I have the Heli version also. My question is when setting up an airplane, can anything be programmed on the three position switch on the top left of the transmitter. It is labeled flight mode N, 1,2. I was hoping to program my dual rates to that switch but I can not find any way to use them for anything. Any suggestions???

Alternative method for 73" Yak wing pins
Anyone doing anything different on the wing cotterpins? When I install the washers with the O-rings glued to them, I can not get the cotterpins thru the holes in the pins. I am thinking about just installing a 1/4" nylon bolt to hold the wing with one cotterpin without the washer for safety. Anyone else have this problem with the pins.

RE: 73" Yak wing pins
You're right, 9mm to the center of the hole doesn't work. Anyone else gluing the pins be sure and check the fit before you glue the pins. I still think that I'll glue a 1/4" nylon bolt in the wing and use wingbolts on the inside of the fuse. One cotter pin willl be used as a backup. I just have to find a place that I can reach, it kind of tight in there.

RE: 33% or 40% What to do...cost comparison
I had two 28% planes and thought that they flew great. Then a good deal came along and I purchased a 33%. As soon as I flew it, the 28% planes never left the trailer. Then I decided to sell the two 28%er's get a 35% plane. As soon as I flew the 35%, I never wanted to fly the 33%. Then another good deal came along on a 40% several weeks ago and I purchased it. You know the story, as soon as I flew the 40% plane, the 35% never leaves the ground anymore. There is no comparison between the 40% and the others; it's amazing how much more stable and smooth the plane flys. It really just comes down to how many $$$ you want to have invested in your plane. From my experience, the bigger the better, no matter which sizes you want to compare. Bobby

RE: QB 260
You probably are going to need to be at least 3-1/2" back on the cg. That is where mine is and I still have to hold a touch of down elevator when inverted on a 45deg upline. The only way to keep the button head screws from stripping out is to throw them in the garbage can. Otherwise they will strip out the first time that you use them. From reading other posts, you will find that everyone has had a problem with them. I would put a 32 oz. tank in the plane also. Otherwise, a great plane!!! Bobby

RE: AW 260 w/BME 110 & Cans?
I ordered my plane from TroyBuilt and they told me to get 70mm drop and small diameter cans if possible. Their web site says 70mm drop also. I am out of town tonight so I can not check my cannisters to see which ones they are, but I think that they are the ones designed for the QQ Yak, long and thin. You probably know which ones they are. I just told Bobby at Cactus that I needed small diameter cannisters and he sent me these. The headers worked perfect also.

RE: AW 260 w/BME 110 & Cans?
I installed my 3W106 with cans in a 260 this week. I ordered the cannister headers with a 70mm drop or as close as they had and long thin cannisters to make sure that they would fit from Cactus. They went in with no modifications at all using 3W mounts. The only issue was that they were longer than those installed in the instruction manual. I just posted a question on that on the AW site a few minutes ago. Bobby

RE: Building the 260
Mark, my cannisters are longer than those shown on the instructions. They extend well into the next section. the one in which the bottom covering is removed in order to install the cannisters. To have sufficient ventilation over the cannisters, should I leave some or all of the removed covering off of the bottom of the plane to allow air to flow over the entire length of the cans? I did install the balsa sheeting one section further back due to the longer cans. Also, is there any need to seal off the lower cannister section from the upper section were the radio and fuel tank are located? Thanks

RE: 3W80
Hey Charles, since I talked to you I took the 106 out of this plane and installed the 80. I also removed three rudder servos and the metal tray and installed one 5955 on the rudder. I removed the smoke system and I still plan to take out the 2-4000mah lipo batteries and install 2-2800's. That will save a little more weight. I also went to carbon fiber landing gear but that was actually because the factory gear kept sagging. I have not weighed it yet, but I know that it is much lighter. I need to weigh it and see how much it weighs now. I also have a three blade prop to run on it but Bobby at Cactus said to run several gallons thru it with the two blade prop. I must say that it flew much better today with the 80 in it. I think the lighter plane made a big difference, even thought there was a big difference in the vertical performance. I am thinking that will get better as the engine gets broken in. I have not given up on the 106, I sent it to Bobby to get checked out and ordered a AW Extra 260 last week for it...guess that's my next project. Bobby

3W80
I ran my new 3W80 today and am wondering what rpm's I should be expecting to see. With about one gallon of gas thru it, I was turning 5,850 rpm with a 3W 26x10, 40:1 lawnboy, and a LL cannister. My needles were set at H - 1/2 and L - 3/4. Am I in the ballpark of what I should be seeing. The engine was running very good at these settings but I hope that I get more vertical performance as the engine gets more time on it. I am running it in a H9 33% Extra. Bobby

I guess I should have asked. One reason I hesitated on it was that I had a 3w106 at home waiting for a plane. Still have not decided what to get thought, about decided on either the QQ Yak or the new AW Extra 260. I problably will order one of them in the next few days. Do you fly IMAC, 3D, whatever??? Not many guys around my area fly giant scale.

RE: Servo problem
Well, I ordered two new servos today(with 2nd day delivery), got to be flying by the weekend you know. Also ordered two matchboxes. Might as well do it right while I am doing it. I plan to send the two old servos back for servicing; I figure I'll need them when the two on the left wing start acting up. I purchased this plane used so I did not have anything to do with the servo selection. My question is why would you install 8411's when you can get 8611's(or 5955's) for the same price??? Am I missing something...

RE: Servo problem
Your right, it's not flutter. It just sounded like a good way to describe it. You are exactly right though, all you have to do is touch the aileron and it will stop. I assume that you don't want to fly with it doing it however. How hard is it to replace the gears?

RE: Servo problem
Ok, here's the latest. First, regarding the batteries; I am using two 4,000mah lipos with two regulators. The batteries were fully charged and load tested prior to beginning all of this yesterday. Back to tonight, I replaced the Y harness and the extension from the Y harness to the receiver...still the same problem. At that point I removed the Y harness and hooked up one servo to a Powerbox and began centering the servo. At that time the one servo began fluttering again. I repeated with the second servo connected and it fluttered also. I think I have two servos with problems. I took the top off of the servos and to my untrained eyes the gears look ok. I guess I'll be sending them in to be checked out. Any other thoughts???

RE: Servo problem
I did not really think that it was a servo problem since I disconnected each servo one at a time and still had the problem with each servo. I picked up another Y harness to day; I'll know in a little while if that was the problem. Sounds like the conscience is that I need to use a Powerbox on each wing however. I do have a spare Powerbox I can try and see if the problem goes away. I'll just have to buy another one for the left wing.

Servo problem
I had a strange problem today. When I turned on my recever the right aileron would flutter up and down very fast for a few seconds after moving the aileron. It has two DS8411 servos connected together with a Y harness. I have been flying the plane since last year with this setup. It would not do this everytime you moved the aileron, but would do it fairly often. It would do it for 5-10 seconds or if you touched the aileron with your finger it would stop. I connected the Y harness to the left side and also disconnected each servo one at a time with the same results. Anyone know what is going on??? Bobby

Vince, you are just lucky that I did not want to have to cover it or it would have been in my trailer earlier in the day. From what I have heard you will be pleased. I have a buddy in Columbus that should have his about ready to fly this weekend. I sold a Wildhare Edge and Ultimate plus a couple of other planes at Perry and now I'm trying to decide which 35%er to go with myself. ..still kind of kicking myself for letting that QQ Yak get away Friday. Anyway, good luck with your plane. Bobby
