RE: Four planes, one night, Awesome feeling
Acdii I thought you were scrapping the idea of turning the T-34 over to glow? Did you post the build on it?

RE: What's Your R/C Story
I was a gamer but that started getting boring. Seems quality was not something they keep in the industry and I was looking for something new. Since I was a kid, (I'm 37 now) I watched the RC plane guys fly their planes and always wanted to get into that. I also was having a son and wanted something we can do together and he could learn mechanics, electronics, etc So I bought a trainer and jumped in. After that I got the RC addiction and bought two more planes (these are not foamies, they are balsa) So I began flying but I started noticing that I needed a large chunck of time to fly and that was something that is hard to come by. Having a new son and doing the family thing doesn't afford me time to RC like I want to. Also the weather in Chicago only lets you fly for a short time. So I started wanting to find another way to get my fix and allow me to tinker in the garage (once a plane is set up there is no tinkering) So I bought an Slash 4wd and began bashing in the area. This allowed me to spend an hour on RC if I have the time and is a great time. I also can drive year round. Now I have decided to branch out in scale off road trucks. Picked up an Axial SCX10 and I am making a defender out of it. Thats my story and I am sticking with it. One of the problems I have is being a air and surface guy, I get pushback from people. I do not understand this elitest attitude from people about the other side in RC. If it is this bad between car and plane people what happens with the train guys lol

RE: Getting kinda bored...
I started in planes but sometimes it eats too much of my time flying. I end up spending a halfday flying. I wanted something to do closer to home that was quick and easy, plus once your planes are set up there is no need for tinkering. So I can to RC and I am having fun, although I have no one to run with. This winter I am going to build scale off road trucks to try it out. My slash is fun and fast but with no one to run with it get boring. Racing is not an option for me because I don't need the headache of that crap.

RE: Bringing my Son into the Sport...Advice?
I know a lot of you do not like Traxxas but the Slash is my first truck and I love it. Stock it is a lot of fun and the only thing that broke on it was an A arm due to me misjudging a pole and hitting it at 40 mph. I hope that my son wants to learn this with me when he gets older (he's only two) but for a starter truck I have been very happy with it. Don't count out Traxxas just because people here don't like them due to the company. I will tell you that the thing is fast in grass and yes was pricey but the 4WD is quick on any surface, and it is durable, my wife has flipped it in the street a number of times and no damage. The shell is beat already. Remember kids want the flash so make sure whatever you get it looks cool.

RE: New member to the scale scene
ORIGINAL: s7jstep1 finally got around to posting a pic. i got a new spur gear for it. the front bumper mount is broken so i may try to make one of my own. i dint really like the stock plastic design. i also need to figure something out for the battery. i have lipos but that esc doesnt have the cutoff so i may run my nimh until i can get a cutoff for it. i also need to figure out how the battery is supposed to mount to the vehicle. the battery holder was taken out and it looks like there are some spacers missing that go to the battery tray assembly. im also open to any other suggestions anybody has for this beast. thaks
I just ordered one of these with plans to make a scale landrover defender. I figure I will run it and play while I am working on the shell. From what I saw on another forum these SCX10's are great for a base platform to make a scale trail truck. I am thinking about making mine look like below: And then maybe a truck that looks like this for my second

RE: Next project: Tamiya Tundra Highlift
Over at another forum I posted the same question and based on the info they fed me I have changed the direction I plan on going in. I am getting the Axial SCX10 and mounting the Tamiya Tundra body on it. This will allow me to semi crawl/trail AND maintain a scale apperance while using a stick controller. What do you guys think about that? Any ideas on the trouble I may run into going this route?

RE: Next project: Tamiya Tundra Highlift
Thanks for the answers Modder. 1. so if I have a Specktrum DX6i that I use for flying can I use it with the truck too and set it as one of my model selections? 2 don't need anything fast since I get that from my slash, just looking for something to play with driving trails at a slower speed and climb some rocks, dirt etc. 3. good on the ESC I will have to look around 4. looking for just lighting for headlights, lamps, tails, etc. Just looking to turn them on and off using the controller (which would be a channel switch right) 5.good suggestion on the tires, I would like to try some crawling but nothing jeavy, just to learn with and play 6. I will keep this in mind. I could always convert to 4 link down the road correct?
ORIGINAL: ReaperGN
ORIGINAL: Rare Very nice rigs guys! Ive always wanted a high-lift. The Ford350 is the same rig isnt it? Looking at these pictures makes me wanna go out and buy one...
I got lucky and picked mine up for 400 rtr with a 4ch radio. If I had to buy everything I still would have. Its a sweet rig that has more than enough grunt to put even bigger trucks in their place. I wouldn't be surprised to see a high lift drag a Juggernaut around.
Reaper how did you get this deal? Tell the story, or link if you have a deal like that. Thanks

RE: What would your neighbors most likely say?
We have a party every friday in someones driveway with a lot of neighbors. I brought out my Slash and raced it in the street and small park for everyone to see and they were all "Ohhh" "Thats fast" "Cool" So hopefully I will find a RC buddy in one of them in the future to bash with. The kids of course went nuts for it. One of the wives asked if I race RC trucks from the control had zipping around. No one ever complains about it but they don't like the airplane engines when I am using them in the driveway.

Next project: Tamiya Tundra Highlift
So I am interested in getting and building this unit. I have built planes, and I upgraded and worked on my slash. I figured I would give rock crawling a chance and see what its about. I like scale stuff and this truck is calling my name. So a few questions from the more experienced crowd on this. What are the options for transmitter control. I am seeing 4 channel pistol controllers but I also see airplane style controllers in use. Can my airplane controller be used with this? Is the stock motor decent? Do I have to use Tamiya's ESC or is there other choices? Is a good light kit avalible beside that MFC they offer? Since I am new to the Crawler thing should I stick with the stock wheels? Any must have upgrades for this unit? Thanks guys for the input.

RE: Duratrax tires
ORIGINAL: thehuntingterminator What terrain are you gonna be running on? What's your setup in your Slash?
I am running a slash 4x4 over a wide range of surfaces, I mostly bash. I was looking to get a decent tire with good traction for all sorts of stuff that I can put black rims into. I am assuming my slash tires are glued in correct? So taking those tires off is not going to happen? Thanks shark that is nice to know they were a tire manufacture before so this isn't something new for them.

Fahrt since you know so much about this truck why does mine shimmy when I go in reverse? It tracks straight no problem but backing up fast causes it to shake back and forth.

I haven't been in the surface world long but I got some clip savers for my basher. They seem to hold them in place so I don't lose them. They were cheap too, install was a little time consuming but I am a perfectionist.

RE: Would you be willing to pay a membership club fee for a dirt track at a club
ORIGINAL: Ram008 The field is at the corner of Peck Rd and 38, the entrance is off of 38. We have a small dirt track at Eli Field in Monticello, IL. Our membership fees are $100/yr for the use of the runway and the car track or $40/yr for only the car track. Keep in mind that the area you are thinking of for the car track at FVAC is also the area where people park their vehicles/trailers for events and that area is also used as a heli flying area. I was a flying club member there for 3 years and I know how much time, effort and $$$$$ went into that field. Being someone that's into both cars and aircraft, I would probably throw up if they tore up the far end of the field and put a car track in. [:o] I would rather see them re-develop the dirt track they originally had in Elgin instead of tearing up the grass at FVAC. Just my personal opinion.
Ram I am not saying anything is going on for sure or nothing, I just wanted to see what people would do if given the choice. I would be the first to say that the field is one of the nicest places around and the last thing I would want is to ruin what we worked so hard for. I like being a part of that group. Also we work with city pretty close so there is no reason we couldn't find property close by from the city to use. To be a rc club and support both would be awesome in my opinion. What dirt track in Elgin are you talking about?

RE: Not a
Sounds like you are getting what you paid for Scott. I am like you, I couldn't decide what to get either but I ended up settling on a Traxxas Slash 4wd since it fills everything I need and I can explore the RC surface world with it. It may not do everything I want but nothing has stopped it yet and I am having some fun with it. To me it is indestructable. My wife has even taken it for a spin and flipped it at 30MPH twice and it never quits. Not sure what my next step will be but I am having a good time. I ran into the same advice when I was buying my first planes. Everyone has an opinion on the best but really it is whats best for you. The thing could be awesome but if you don't like the look then it is not for you. So far this thinking has not lead me wrong yet. Enjoy your RC
