RE: JR Announces 2.4Ghz 12 channel & 9 channel radio
Anyone know if the 9303 2.4GHz is a normal 9303 with the recently release 9ch module or is the DSM integrated like on the DX7?

RE: Flight Report!!!
My Extra was a superb flying plane. It was not a 3D plane and it was not a Pattern plane but it could do a lot of both. If I were to build mine again I would use a new Saito 125 or a YS110FZ. I ran my Saito 100 with a 15x6 and a 14x8 on 30% very hard to get the power I wanted. I would also redo the rudder with smaller square sticks so I could sheet both sides with 1/16" balsa for more stiffness. My modified rudder was a little flexy but it flew just fine. With the Saito 100 over the course of 2 months flying I added 2oz of lead to the tail. If you are going to use a heavier engine move the rudder and elevator servo to the tail. I would also join the two elevator halves with a 1/8" wire joiner so I could run one servo to control both elevators. Hmm...maybe its time to build another one[;)] I quit flying for a while and I gave this model to an awesome local teenage pilot that that flys the heck out of it and really values the time I put into it.

RE: New CA models Epsilon build (easy as pie)
Model Airplane News just did a review on the Epsilon ARC. They said it flew nice but they totally butchered the covering and finishing of the model. Thay made a truly beautiful plane look awful. If I were CA Model I would be mad right now. They also used a 17x6 on the YS110. That may be ok for an EF Yak 54 but not a Pattern/AA plane like the Epsilon. Should have used a 15x8 or a 14x10.

RE: New CA models Epsilon build (easy as pie)
The 91 is too heavy and not enough power. The Surpass 120 is WAY too heavy but has the right amount of power. An OS 91FX is a better choice.

RE: Moisture in glow fuel?
When the engine is running the water will remain in its vapor state. The oil in your fuel will protect the internals just fine. If you run your engine dry at the end of the day it you are all set.

RE: Moisture in glow fuel?
I R/C Report's motor guy did some tests a few months ago to dispel the myth of how badly moisture effects fuel. He took fresh fuel and added an ounce at a time to a gallon of fuel until the test engine started running poorly. I recall him getting to 10% water in the fuel before he started noticing a reaction from the engine. At 20% water he stopped the test. The engine was still running albeit poorly. That said water is non combustible so its certainly not good but I think guys that are tossing fuel if they see condensation are overreacting. I you are a competition pilot don't take chances use the fuel for sport flying but don't throw it away.

RE: Best 90 size pattern plane
The CA Model Epsilon 90 is available as a kit for $199.99 or as an ARC(not sure on $$ for ARC. Do a search for the Epsilon here. The plane is top notch!

RE: 200+ speed demons
Most of the jet guys don't fly anywhere near 200mph. They dont want their $10K planes getting away from them at a quarter mile per second.

RE: Modified Diamond Dustlike Speed Plane
The wing area is 561 sq/in similart to an unclipped Diamond Dust so the wing loading is very low. A Dust is a 2.2lb plane AUW. With any sport 46 engine a dust will fly out of your hand... no push necessary. It wont turn fast at all...its a delta wing... but it will go fast in a straight line and land nice and slow.

RE: Modified Diamond Dustlike Speed Plane
Here is a my wing plan. The front spar will tie into the LE just like on a Dust. For some reason the right tip got cut when I Jpeg'd the drawing. The plan is correct with symetrical wing halves.

Modified Diamond Dustlike Speed Plane
I am about to start cutting wood on a modified diamond Dustlike speed plane. Here are some of the design elements: 34.5" Span 25" Root Chord (NACA 66-006) 8" Tip Chord (NACA 63-009) 14" sweep back Root LE to Tip LE 3" Sweep forward Root TE to Tip TE Standard DD .25" Carbon spars and LE's Fully Sheeted in 3/32" balsa Here's the kicker... Cowled side mounted engine for less frontal area (Exhaust port up). The prototype will have a TT46 Pro. If all goes well a second proto powered by a Jett Fire 50 with a Macs marine pipe semi recessed into the wing for less drag will be built. The engine mount will be a round pylon back plate mount faired forward to a 1 3/4" spinner. I have the plans drawn. The only thing left to figure out is the cowling. I have some ideas but I will finalize things when I get to it. What do you guys think?

RE: SEAGULL HARRIER 90...WHO'S GOT ONE?
I fly this plane so low and close in orientation is not a problem. I guess the big Harrier 3D Decals on the tops of the wings are enough for me.

RE: 2-Stroke for Funtana 90
The YS 1.10 with a 16x6 is the best overall engine for the Funtana 90. The best low cost engine is the Evolution 1.00NX with a 16x4 prop. All the 1.20 2 strokes and 4 strokes listed here are great for burning holes in the sky and hovering but with these boat anchor motors thats all the plane will do. If you put an engine that weights over 28oz in the Funtana 90 it gets snappy due to an increase in wing loading. If the engine is heavy forget about getting stable high alpha harriers, elevators, walls turn into snaps, etc. The Funtana 90 is a heavy plane to start. If you really fly 3D heed my and other pilots suggestions and keep the engine light.

RE: Flight Report!!!
I soaked my fuse sides in a 5 gallon bucket so the water went up to the middle of the wing saddle for ~6 hours. I then wrapped the front of the fuse around a large coffee can secured with a lot of rubber bands and let it dry overnight. The next day fit perfectly to the formers.

RE: New speed plane
Bob - My point is that if I have to shell out $90 for an over priced TT piston and sleeve why not pay $10-20 more for a tweaked Jett Piston and sleeve that will drop into a TT 46 Pro or OS 46FX/AX ands give you a better quality/higher performance product. It would have to work with the stock rods. There is nothing wrong with those.

RE: Why do you fly IMAC?
I am not here to start a fight but I have flown IMAC Planes and Pattern Planes. The scale based IMAC planes have a lot of vices compared to a decent patten planes. Why is IMAC more popular than Pattern and AA? The latest generation of Pattern/AA planes with big flying surfaces can even do 3D really well.

RE: SEAGULL HARRIER 90...WHO'S GOT ONE?
The cool thing about the Harrier is it is such a safe plane to fly. It is very light for its wing area so it can just float along way slower that any plane should fly...lol! The only thing that can kill a Harrier is a pair of dumb thumbs. With a Saito 100 on 30% I can pull out of anything. With a YS 1.10FZ it would be even better. This is the only plane I have that feels safe hovering five feet off the deck.

RE: SEAGULL HARRIER 90...WHO'S GOT ONE?
There is no petrol engine yet made that is light enough to be used on this plane. The 27oz YS1.10FZ is the heaviest engine you can use without upsetting the flight characteristics of the plane. I use a 21oz Saito 1.00.

RE: SEAGULL HARRIER 90...WHO'S GOT ONE?
I build in spurts. I just took 4 months off of building and I am getting back into it now. I build at night, after work and family time if my wife is busy. She's a teacher so she is busy prepping for future classes or grading papers a lot. I usually go from 9pm to 2 or 3am about 3 nights a week. Usually Friday and Saturday are two of those nights.

RE: SEAGULL HARRIER 90...WHO'S GOT ONE?
Not yet...been busy building a CA Model Epsilon 90 and doing another review. I just put 5 Digital Servos (Airtronics 94751's) in my Harrier I like it so much. I think the analogs were blowing over at high deflections. The plane flys so nice its worth the investment. The review plane maidens tomorrow, the Epsilon needs to get covered, I drew a set of plans for a 30" span brushless powered Harrier EP [:D], a Diamond Dust with more sophistacated airfoils and C/L Speed style cowl, I got my proposed Harrier 90 Mods....I just have to prioritize these projects.

RE: New speed plane
How about Dave building you a super streamlined Dust? He could cowl the engine like a control line speed model, no exposed servos, etc. Jett can also do special motor setups like Jett Fan sleeves in FIRE engines, special Macs Marine pipe setups for peak HP. Maybe a 40 or a 46 might be faster than the 50. If they can turn enough more RPM with a lower pitch prop they might be faster. Bob27 could fill in some of these details. Of course the ultimate goal is to have a flyable plane. Full punch race motors are no fun for sport flying.

There is no way to do this. If you were to get a machine shop to make everything you need it would cost 2x the price of a Menace 21.
