RE: DSM2 lockout?
I see an awful lot of the same kind of things. Ppl claiming lockout/brownout or whatever the claim happens to be.This is true across all brands. More so lately it is from brands other then Spektrum. The first thing to get blamed is the radio system itself. The last thing to get blamed is the user. Ive generally fouind that 99.9 some% of the time it is user error by not setTing up the system correctly. I have the sneaky suspicion that the huge percentage of failures before we even had 2.4 systems was user error but the "I got hit" or "I had a lockout" was the simple scapegoat and the true cause of many issues is never even investigated further. There will always be these kinds of reports. The majority of users simply plug a bunch of stuff in and assume its all going to work flawlessly. When it doesnt they blame the one thing they have no control over. I personally havent had these issues with Spektrum nor did I have the constant "lockouts" when I was using 72 before going to 2.4. I take an engineered approach to setups over the Plug and Pray method. Its worked very well for me.Lately it seems Im teaching this concept to many users. Most just happen to be using other than Spektrum and have been through several brands and the same problems persist. They have finally reluctantly admitted to themselves they might be a big part of the problem and are willing to learn basic electrical theory and proper setup. When I hear "I had a lockout or brownout or something" its obvious there is no basic understanding of how the system works. Brownout and Lockout are 2 completely different directions like Left and Right or Up and Down.If you cant distinguish between the 2 its time to go back to school.

That sound is part of the iOS but the STi only accesses that one.Maybe the option to assign the alarm sounds will be added in the future but for now we are stuck with that one.

RE: Spektrum Telemetry module and iPhone App.
Franco the setting for alarm preferences is separate from the spoken telemetry settings. The alarm speech will override the regular speech if there is an alarm.I have regular telemetry and alarms set to speech. The klaxxon drives me nuts.If you have more than one alarm setup you dont know which one is sounding unless you look at the screen for the bouncing icon. Unless you fly with a spotter and they watch the screen its not real practical to try and look at it while your trying to fly.
ORIGINAL: verendrye I am having some difficulty getting the STi program to start displaying data. I have resorted to unplugging the STI, sometimes several times, to get it started. Is there a magic sequence to reliable start-up? ( the binding light is ON). Thanks!
I found it seems to initially connect best if you turn it on before you power the model. It can be stubborn sometimes.I think keeping it a few feet away seems to help too. You have the right idea about when it is stubborn.Leave everything else alone and pull the dongle out of the device.Wait few seconds and plug it back in. Ive said this before but the #1 thing you can do to increase its reliability is to double tap the home button on your iDevice and terminate all the unused processes to free up as much memory as possible. It makes a huge difference.

RE: Spektrum Telemetry module and iPhone App.
Franco Use the speech option. It also makes it much simpler to distinguish between various alarms if you have more than one active/setup. There is only one alarm sound that I know of for now. That may change sometime but for now I use speech.

RE: Spektrum not working after bind
The OP didnt have anything to do with advise on the type of equip he was using. It had to do with an issue he had with a specific radio. Is there a specific reason why some users seem to want to turn a problem into a brand war? IMO its really kind of annoying. Im not one to go crying to daddy everytime there is a troll in the group.I will however likely get my bic and light his purple hair on fire.
ORIGINAL: BuschBarber
ORIGINAL: dale691 I have a strange thing happening with my TM1000. Just tried to bind it to my JR921 RX. Is this all a bit strange?
You must connect the TM1000 to the Data port in order to receive Flight Log data. I Bind both the TM1000 and the Rx using just the Bind button on the TM1000. http://www.horizonhobby.com/pdf/SPM9548-Manual_EN.pdf
Rich Yes the button works well in a pinch.I prefer to advise a y and a bindplug in general. Its handfree and theres no chance of mashing the button and caving in the spring.Seems alot of users especially the newer ones dont understand the term 'finesse".Ive found that many simply dont have the dexterity to hold the button on with one hand and be able to engage the bind button and turn the radio on with the other. Its even a bit tough for me to plug a deans in with one hand while holding the button. I know you can understand this.I saw a guy at the field trying to bind with the button and when I spotted him it looked like he was trying to punch a hole in a piece of leather with an awl.Poking and twisting the stylus.I went over to help and he was complaining what a POS it was because his other TM was stuck in bind mode.He was arguing that the y and bindplug wouldnt work. The manual didnt tell him to do it that way.It took me awhile to explain it to him and ease him back out of fight mode. There were a half a dozen others standing around when I got him sorted. The proverbial bunch of monkeys and a football came to mind.

If it is a 7010 dont be too terribly concerned. The fade data from L isnt as accurate as you would think. They will boot up at 256.I kind of gave up on trying to be too concerned even if the L data went to the thousands.Alot of Frames or a Hold is a problem.I dont have any problems there so I just fly it and dont worry. Alot of the spikes on the graph on L is normal for now.Well not normal but whatever the heck its showing isnt a problem in itself.Thats what Ive found so far.Something about the 7010.

RE: Servo calibration issues
Ive used quite a few of the 3004s in the past.I know exactly what your talking about. They were pretty good and affordable at the time.I did find on more than one model when they were used in pairs they didnt travel the same.Even with 2 new or basically the same age.I had one trainer that I always fought to keep the flaps working the same.Swapping servos to mix/match and get 2 that worked the same.Maybe it is the pots in them or just an inherent way they act. They worked ok for a standard entry level servo. They seemed to like the 4cell(4.8volt) packs better. They just didnt work as well moving forward and running 5cell(6volt) packs.I had several of them get really bad.Not failures but they just wouldnt drive out to the ends or one end reliably all of a sudden.I kind of phased them out and went to 3151s.Ive had alot better luck with them. I have taken the 3004s apart and cleaned the pots with marginal success. I would think about finding some more reliably accurate servos for applications where they are used as pairs.

Great. You should have a 4min timer activated by throttle. F switch are your rates.Up is 100% with no expo, middle 100% with 35% expo to mellow it around center and down 75% rate with 25% expo.Down should be the mellowest to start out with.

RE: DX8-Issue with importing all models from SD card
Peter Im not quite sure I understand what problem your having. No motor in Normal mode but it will spoolup in ST-1? Before having to ask 100 questions about your setup can you attach your SPM(model) file in this thread so I can load it in my radio and have a look at what you might have going on? RCU hasnt answered me about directly supporting the SPM file extension so you will have to change it to .txt or zip it up so you can attach it.

RE: Downloading AirWare on a Mac
I dont have/use a Mac but from what I understand it is similar to a PC in how downloads work.It makes it easier if you create a file you can easily find.Maybe one called Downloads on the desktop. Then when you open Safari go to Preferences. Then there are tabs.IIRC it is the one called General. There is something abut where to save files to.Make it save files to your Download folder instead of just auto running them with whatever program it thinks will open the file. Then you can move the .sax file from there to the SD card. I believe that is basically how it should work. You have to tell the browser to save it instead of just trying to open it.

RE: Spektrum Telemetry module and iPhone App.
ORIGINAL: verendrye I should have been clearer, the orange circle appears only for short times, I suspect it does when files are being created. When you do playback, does it display all the stored data, i.e. altitude, speed, rpm, temperature, and receiver voltage, as it happened during the flight?   I downloaded the software about a month ago, where is version id  displayed? thanks!
The orange(red) circle in the upper left is the logging indicator. It is displayed when logging is in progress.Anytime it stops the logfile is closed. When it starts a new file is created. By playback you mean "replay" and yes during replay all gauges(that are selected as visible on setup page) and stats screen should be displayed just as if the flight was currently in progress.Press the button on the top right that says "controls" and a progress bar will appear so you can correlate what your seeing to the progress of the file(time). When you use the "graph" function you can only graph 2 items a a time.It would be really cluttered of you had more. The version is displayed in the iDevice itself.Homepage/Settings/General/Usage/Spektrum STi

RE: Throttle cut -6i radio
Without seeing it in person theres no way to tell for sure. Its probably not the radio.Theres a good chance that the geometry of the linkage doesnt let the arm move enough to actually shut the barrel on the carb.If you have the lower endpoint lower than -100 the more it gets below 100 the less the servo has to move during the Cut process. If the angle of the arm is more parallel to the linear travel of the linkage the rotational component at the barrel is further reduced. Its also possible that the carb barrel is worn a bit and closing it isnt completely shutting off the air and forcing it to die.I have a Magnum 91 and a Saito 100 that are like this. You can pull the carb completely shut and they wont die right away. The magnum almost doesnt close enough to shut the fuel off either it will run for 30 secs sometimes before it dies.Sometimes I have to reach down and put my finger over the carb opening to get it to quit and the barrel is already forced shut to the point of binding. What is the throttle channel doing on the Monitor screen? If there really is an issue with the radio it will show up there.

RE: Spektrum Telemetry module and iPhone App.
ORIGINAL: Franco2fly Andy, I was wondering if the concept of a trigger value is on the list of ''Next'' upgrade?  Basically, I want the airspeed alarm to work thusly: I fire up in the pits, do all my surface movement checks, I have the airspeed alarm set to 20 mph (My prefered approach speed), but the alarm does NOT go off until I have passed a trigger value of 30mph. Today, I have become pretty adroit at finding the ''clear'' button without looking down as the alarm goes off as soon as I power up and continues until I'm in the air.  Maybe there's a setting that I am overlooking? I usually fly with the iPhone app running, placed in breast pocket,  and listening to the audio report for Altitude, Airspeed, and Rx Voltage every 10 seconds via a headphone plugged into audio jack.   I was thinking of attaching the iPhone to the transmitter via one of those Car suction devices, where I remove the suction cup and replace with some clamp.  While this sounds like it would work, I worry that the transmitter balance would be adversly impacted, plus the utility of the screen dials for the pilot is marginal at best (hard to take your eyes off the plane long enough to comprehend the dial read outs - hence the audio output). Anyone else out there experimenting with positions for the iPhone? (Velcro'd to a ball cap?) KKKKFL
Hey Franco Theres a heck of an idea.A way to attach the STi to to rim of a hat.Kind like an okie HUD.I might have to look into that.

RE: Spektrum Telemetry module and iPhone App.
Franco Your thinking Windoze. An iDevice works similar but not the same.Once you open an app it continues to run in the background even when you return to the homescreen or open another app. When you switch to another app all you are doing essentially is swapping to another window.Just because your on the home screen(window) doesnt mean the apps are all closed. They run in the background asTSRs.At that point all your doing when you tap an icon is to switch to the window for that app.If you used it since you rebooted it is already running. The only other way to stop them from running is a complete powerdown and reboot.A big PITA just to free up resources. When you are viewing the screen that shows the processes that are running there is a button with an i in it.Tap that.It will give you the instructions to stop the various apps that are running. You cant terminate iOS processes that I know of with the SYS app.Just the apps.Play with it some more and you will understand. Basically you double tap the home button to bring up the bar on the bottom. When you press and hold an app icon it changes them to wiggly with a red dot with a - symbol in it(not the black x).I misstated that sorry. Then you tap the red button with the minus to stop/close that app.

RE: Spektrum Telemetry module and iPhone App.
Franco Yes.Double click the home button and the bar on the bottom will display the apps that are running in the background in the toolbar at the bottom.Press and hold and they will change to having the little black x in the upper corner the same as the delete option on the homescreen. When you click the x in this toolbar it will terminate the app/process.It wont delete it just terminate it running in the background. When you tap it again on the mainscreen it will startup again.Once you use an app it continues to run in the background until you terminate it manually.I terminate pretty much everything before I use STi.It frees up a bunch of memory and processor resources. Then the STi runs alot smoother. Also if you keep the running processes to a minimum just in general it will reduce battery use. Many ppl notice when they get alot of apps that the battery doesnt last as long anymore. This is a way to mitigate the power use/battery life issue.
