RE: Mixing in G4?
Never mind, guys. On further study of the G4 manual, it actually spells out the fact that there is no way to add any kind of mixing using the included radio. Looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and hook up my 9c to mix out the coupling in the G4 planes. I still think that G4 is a very good sim, though. I've had all of the RF sims, from the very first, and each one has been a real improvement over the previous one. I've also had AeroFlite Pro Deluxe, which was an improvement (for 3d) over G2. But G4 not only has much better graphics than AFPD, the 3d flight is also much improved as well. Also, the planes in the expansion packs 4 and 5 are way improved over the earlier planes.
ORIGINAL: krayzc-RCU use a computer radio and set the mixes on that radio [:D]
Already thought about that, but the setup to use your own radio in G4 is very user unfriendly. I used my own radio with Aero Flite Pro and AFPD. They were very easy to set up, but the setup in G4 just goes over my head, I guess. One thing for sure-the gimbals on my 9c are sure better than the gimbals on the sim radio.

Mixing in G4?
I've been using G4 for a few months now and really enjoy it. The only thing I can't find any info on in the manual is a reference to mixing, in order to mix out unwanted coupling. I have only used the included Interlink Elite controller so far, and it is okay, but do I have to hook up my Futaba 9c so that I can use the mixing function? I have looked all over for references to mixing in the manual, but have not found anything. Maybe it's there and I keep missing it. I haven't actually read through the entire manual, because I believe it would take a week to do so. Anybody out there that can help?

RE: fancyfoam edge
You might also try moving the CG forward a little. CG position can make a huge difference in how the plane reacts to the control throws. But do yourself a favor, and only make one change at a time. If you make several changes before you try it out, you'll never know which change made the difference in the planes flying characteristics.

RE: What plane is this? Have pictures
That is the EZ Models P-51 Mustang, marketed by Sportsman Aviation in the early 1980's. It has been out of production for at least 15 years. The framing, both fuselage and wings was lite ply and balsa, and the covering was a prepainted mylar bonded to a 1/8" dense foam sheet, stretched over the frame. The wing fillets and wing/stabilizer, and rudder tips were a thin ABS plastic, molded in a color that was a fairly accurate match to the printed mylar covering. There were several models in the EZ line, including an FW-190 and Zero, as well as several civilian sport planes. The Mustang, FW and Zero were designed to fly with a 2-stroke .40 through a 4-stroke .90, and sold for about $225 in the early 80's. The plane came with fixed gear, but retracts were available for about $30. All the warbirds in the EZ line were fairly good fliers, but the retract mounts were weak, needing to be beefed up before flying, especially off of a grass surface.

RE: So what exactly is building??
I have built my share of models, and built from plans. I enjoyed the building and was proud of my results. But you builders that come on here over and over, giving the ARF fliers a hard time, and try to make them feel like they should be ashamed for making that choice are just a bunch of bored malcontents. Why can't you spend a little more of your time at the building table instead of spending it here, trying to run these guys down?

RE: The new Lanier Edge 87"
I was with phoneman at the flying field today. He finally got the ZDZ running right. The Edge looks like a real winner. So far it looks like it flies pretty light. The landing approaches and touchdowns are a rare thing of beauty. It hovers at way less than half throttle and pretty well locks into harriers-just a little wing rock. It is slightly nose-heavy now. I imagine that once he moves the CG back a little, it will be even better. It is a sweet flying plane. I think it's going to be a keeper. Of course phoneman is most likely going to hit me over the head for posting first and stealing his thunder. Oh well, you snooze, you lose.[:D]

RE: 50cc Yak Scale ????
ORIGINAL: Bobby Folsom Guys, if you go to the Aircraft International site and look under accessories for pilots you will find some neat foam pilots listed. The measurements are within the submenu so it shouldn't be too hard to find the right one. I used a "D: size for my QB 260 and it looks just about right. Bobby
Yep, sounds about right. The AI foam pilot I bought was a "C" size, but way too small.

RE: 50cc Yak Scale ????
I bought the 30% pilot from Aircraft International for my 50cc Yak QB, and it was too small. Actually, the head and shoulders are about the right scale, but the body is cut off just below the shoulders, making it sit too low in the cockpit. I'm either going to have to build a balsa box about 1"-1 1/2" high to mount him on, or go to a larger scale pilot.

RE: Will W/H come out with a new Decathlon?
The problem with Sportsman Aviation's rendition of the Decathlon is that it had a very long, very unscale-like snout. I figured they must have added the extra length in the nose to get it to balance, but it was not at all aesthetically pleasing to me. I saw one that looked good, but the modeler had done major surgery on it to shorten the nose enough to make it look scale. But I can't see buying an ARF and having to completely rebuild it to look like it should have when it came out of the box.

RE: Will W/H come out with a new Decathlon?
There is a big difference between "Will WH come out with a 50cc Decathlon" and "would you like for WH to come out with a 50cc Decathlon". Besides, why waste the time to vote for the the 50cc Decathlon after Tom has shown little interest in doing one? By the way, jongurley, yet another one of your sweeping, all-knowing statements. Just because Tom chooses not to market the Decathlon does not mean there is "simply no market for it". The huge Decathlon build thread in the Giant Scale forum is proof that there is interest in the Decathlon, whether a manufacturer has an interest in marketing one or not at this time. The market may not be anywhere as large as the market for the Extra/Edge/Cap/Yak, but as long as there are modelers asking for it, there is a market for the Decathlon. Eventually somebody will market one. I just hope it's as good a quality plane as Tom would sell if he chose to sell a Decathlon. Time will tell.

Dennis, Have you double checked your CG? I'm sure you know that a tail-heavy plane tends to baloon on landing. I know I've had that problem with more than one plane.
ORIGINAL: shesha I believe the aiwild one is composite built ? Might want to look at wildhare, though the vid that bill hempel has on his where the wing snaps is some what concerning, interesting part is how he managed to fly the plane with one wing and KE land the plane. I'll see if I can find that link to that vid.
Bill Hemphel admitted soon after that incident that the reason that the wing broke off in flight was that he forgot to tighten up the wing holddown bolt on that wing - not because of any structural problem with the plane.

Don't be silly, Ken. Your video was fine and we appreciated it. It just wasn't what Wings was looking for. I feel sure the plane is 3d capable, I'm just baffled why nobody has posted one with lots of 3d flight in it.

Pat, There is no reason to brow beat the guy because he wants to see the plane do some 3d. Like he said, he just wants to make an informed decision. I like Wildhare planes a lot, too, especially some of the latest ones. But I am afraid that you are so used to responding to people bashing Wildhare products, that you are starting to lose your objectivity. Its possible that your defensive posture could alienate a potential Wildhare buyer, and I'm certain that's not what you mean to do.

RE: how do you share your recorded videos?
I made this little video by recording an AFPD flight, then playing it back and capturing the recording using FRAPS. Then I used Pinnacle Studio 9 (Windows Movie Maker works fine, too) to add music, since AFPD does not record the plane sounds anyway. I saved it on my computer as streaming video, and uploaded it to one of the free video sites. Didn't turn out too bad. When you start to play it, select the large screen and it'll be clearer. http://livedigital.com/content/851779/u99444

RE: Crashed today
Eighteen pounds on a 72 inch wing makes for a pretty high wing loading, and those 72 oz./in. Futaba servos are pretty marginal for a heavily loaded plane of that size. If one elevator did quit, I imagine that one 72 oz. servo would have a very hard time flairing the plane for landing. The G62 is no unlimited powerhouse, but it is very powerful for a 120-size plane.
