RE: Evolution 45GX starts backwards?
ORIGINAL: pe reivers A healthy flip, heavier prop, or higher idle also helps, as well as programming for ''long muffler'' Instead of programming ''long'', the ignition can be set slightly later by loosening one sensor screw and rotating the sensor clockwise (looking at the sensor top)
Thank you response Mr. Reivers. I'm aware that the idle is way too low and that the low speed may be too rich. I will be working on those two points as soon as I get home tomorrow. By the way the new ignition is working flawlessly. I need to order a spare plug for this engine and I believe the NGK BMR6F is the direct replacement for the Brisk UR17. Am I correct? I am also interested in obtaining some Mobil1 Two Stroke racing oil from you and I will like to know with this oil for use on this engine what the best mixing ratio is? I will order through the website as soon as possible. Thank you.

Evolution 45GX starts backwards?
I have a 45GX that I just installed a new Vlach to ICU conversion Electronic ignition (for 2S LiPo) that I purchased from PE Reivers Models Engines. Some times now when starting the engine goes in the reverse direction. After trying two or three times it will start the right way, and then runs perfectly. My question is; is there a way to program the ignition to avoid this inconvenience?

Evolution 45GX will not draw fuel ???
I have an Evolution 45GX ( MVVS 45 IRS) that doesn't draw fuel. The original problem was that the engine would start up, rev up and then die. I sent the engine to Horizon to be diagnosed and they told me the problem was the ignition because I was using a C&H ignition at the time. The original ignition broke during a crash and I replaced it with the C&H unit. The engine worked fine with the C&H ignition for quite some time. Under Horizon's service department advice I purchased a Vlach to ICU conversion Electronic ignition (for 2S LiPo) from Mr. Reivers. The ignition has proven not to be the problem since then I found out the engine is not drawing fuel. I replaced the carburetor diaphragm and the mesh filter, and that didn't fix the problem. I noticed that the there is hardly any pulse pressure coming from the crankcase and when I blew air into the pulse line air came out of the crankcase thru the carburetor. I removed the reed valve assembly and found out the reeds don't seat fully in contact with the reed housing so I suspect this may be the lack of pulse pressure. I am ordering a new reed valve assembly from Horizon but I will like some feedback in regards this problem to make sure I am on the right track. Have anyone out there experience a similar problem? I don't want to keep throwing money at this engine in order to troubleshoot the problem. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

What's the metric thread size for the center bolt hole on the propeller screw (part no. 1105) on the 45 IRS engine. I need to install a spinner and will like to use this bolt instead of a 10mm adapter.

RE: Which ICU for 45 IRS
ORIGINAL: pe reivers In your post #1, you said you replaced the Vlach ignition with RCexl? So you still should have the Vlach lower plug boot. The CM6 plug you mention is not standard older type 45 with magnets at 180°, These engines all had M14x1.25 plugs. To fit the CM6 plug, you either had to insert a thread reducer, or replace the cylinder with a new type. If the cylinder has an M10 plug thread, you need to use CM6 plugs. The Vlach boot must be removed from the ignition and replaced with an RCexl boot for CM6 plugs. If the cylinder has an M14x1.25 plug thread with tapered seat, all you need is the lower Vlach plug boot. BTW, this is the same lower boot as on ZDZ engines. See post #3 where I explained this as well. The ignition I sent to Mr Molina, Peru IN, (is that you?) is the only MSR-ICU ignition that works correctly with the magnets at 180°. It has the Vlach upper plug boot. No other options are sold with this specific ignition.
I'm sorry if I misled you, I though the original ignition was made by Vlach. I don't have that ignition anymore, it was destroyed in and accident I I threw it away. The original ignition was encased in a metal box and the booth was similar to the one on the Rxcel ignition. The original ignition was designed to work with the 14mm Champion plug. I was wrong when I said it came with a CM6 plug, that was a confusion on my part. What I can make sense right now is that I need a Vlach lower boot to be able to install the new ICU with the Brisk (or maybe the Champion plug, I'm not sure). Do you sell this lower booth or do you know were I can get one? I'm sorry for all the confusion on my part and I will appreciate whatever assistance you may be able to provide in getting this problem solved.

RE: Which ICU for 45 IRS
ORIGINAL: pe reivers There is nothing wrong with your pictures. You must use the old Vlach ignition lower boot, and use the conversion ignition and brisk plug with sawed off top. They will fit. Without the Vlach lower boot, nothing will fit. If you saw off the top of the tapered seat 14mm thread plug, that will also fit if using the Vlach lower boot..
Now I'm really confused! What do you mean by the "Vlach ignition lower boot". I don't have a Vlach ignition to start with. As you may be able to tell from photo one what I was using originally was a Rxcel ignition. As I previously explained the Champion plug fits nicely and the Brisk also fits the Rxcel booth except that the sawed off top of the Brisk plug doesn't make contact with the spring inside the booth. The bottom line is; What must I obtain to make this new ignition fit the Champion plug?

RE: Which ICU for 45 IRS
I'm having a major difficulty with the new ignition you sol me for the 45 IRS. According to your instructions "Vlach to ICU conversion Electronic ignition (for 2S LiPo). The ignition has the boot cap for14mm Brisk spark plugs with the Vlach type shielded boot. This ignition can be used to update old Vlach equipped engines to the new ICU ignitions." The problem I have is that the boot on the ignition I received doesn't does not fit either the Brisk plug or the Champion R6J6 original plug. The boot silicone sleeve is too large to hold these plugs. I'm including photos to illustrate what's happening. On photo 1 you can see both the old RCexel ignition and the new MSR ignitions. Note the booth on the MSR ignition doesn't reassemble the booth shown on the Instruction Manual. This boot doesn't even have the ground wire shown on the manual photo. On photos 2 and 3 you can see both plugs don't fit the MSR booth, and on photo 4 you can see the obvious difference in internal diameter between both booths. Am I missing something here? Please let me know what's wrong with this picture.

The bottom line is that more and more jobless American, due to manufacturing outsourcing are not able to buy any of these products. And all these will lead to an eventual worldwide economic collapse.

I'm very sorry but I was mistaken in regards the spark plug type. I was confusing my 26GT plug (which is an NGK CM6) with the one in the 45 IRS which actually have a Champion RDJ6J. I cross referenced the RDJ6J and it shows that the NGK BPMR7A is the direct replacement alternative. I noticed your catalog shows the NGK BMR6F 14mm taper seat spark plug (16mm Hex) as the closest match available. My question is; If I purchase the Vlach ignition upgrade, will the booth in this ICU fit either of these plugs without the need of replacing the booth cap?

Which ICU for 45 IRS
I have an older Evolution 45GX engine (similar to the MVVS 45 IRS) that came with a Vlach ignition but uses the CM6 plug and has two magnets spaced 180 degrees apart. The original ignition broke and I replaced it with an RCexl ignition. the problem is thatt I'm not able to set the timing retarded enough for good reliable starts, and sometimes it starts in reverse rotation. I need to replace the ignition and I am not sure which one to purchase. The PRME catalog shows a 3312L Vlach which has the boot cap for14mm Brisk spark plugs with the Vlach type shielded boot which obviously will not fit, and the 3314L ICU Light which has boot cap for M10mm x 1 CM6 spark plugs. Given the magnet configuration,; Which ICU should I purchase? Please help.
ORIGINAL: Slow and Steady Just to clarify, I looked at the orange receiver offered for Futaba transmitters and noted that it said it did not provide a fail safe mode. While they are not identical to the brand name receiver, they are likley alright for smaller, less expensive planes - though fail safe to me is necessary before I would buy it. My Futaba 2.4 receivers have lasted along time, none having failed yet, and the savings is not that great considering the life of the Futaba product.
I stand corrected........I'm not too familiar with the new Futaba stuff. I did view a video test from on YouTube [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmxtnBNsNJU&feature=related][LINK HERE][/link] that seems like most Futabe functions works OK.

RE: hobby king orange receivers
ORIGINAL: Rafael23cc It seem like the thread is deviating from its subject because some people are not understanding the problem... Let me put it back on track.
ORIGINAL: BuschBarber I was under the impression that JR/Spektrum transmitters that supported Model Match would support Model Match with any JR/Spektrum receiver. I had not heard that the Orange receivers were an exception. Are you sure that Model Match does not work with the Orange receivers?
I am too under that impression. JR/Spektrum working with JR/Spektrum. My question is why are we expecting a CLONE to work with JR/Spektrum? Since my 2.4 radios are module based, Obviously I do not have the means of testing if it works or not. I'm just not expecting it to work by the reasoning of being a CLONE. I do not see why this is hard to comprehend. If it works, it is the icing on the cake, if it does not (which seems to be the case) then I did not expect it anyway so I'm not surprised. Rafael
Raf I don't see why not. These clones support all the functions of Futaba FASST transmitters, they may as well work the same with Spektrum. The problem is that JR doesn't support most of Spektrum options. That's why JR non-module transmitters aren't fully compatible with new DSM2 systems. I have a 9303 with a 2.4 Spektrum module which works fine with JR, Spektrum and Orange receivers but doesn't support Model Match or Range Check audio alarm functions. On the other hand Orange receivers support both of these options when you use a Spektrum transmitter.

I agree, Model Match is a good thing but I'm not going to miss it if I don't have it. BTW I will not mount an Orange receiver in a $3000 plane, might as well invest a couple of hundred dollars in a power safe receiver system. RE: hobby king orange receivers
ORIGINAL: BuschBarber
ORIGINAL: Rafael23cc So ALL you guys are expecting a JR /Spectrum function to work with a Hobby King CLONE receiver? Where did you get that idea? The OP did not say which radio is being used. Model Match only works with radios that DO NOT utilize a module, so if the radio uses a module, you cannot rely on the model match feature to ''save'' your model. But then again it is pointless to discuss this as we are talking about a CLONE receiver and I would not expect this feature to work here. Rafael
I have not used any of the Hobby King Orange receivers. Since Spektrum first offered the 2.4 Module for my XP9303, I have been using JR/Spektrum 2.4 receivers. As such, I have not been able to take advantage of Model Match. There was a version of the JR 12X that was Modular and was compatible with Model Match, but that was discontinued after a year. I was under the impression that JR/Spektrum transmitters that supported Model Match would support Model Match with any JR/Spektrum receiver. I had not heard that the Orange receivers were an exception. Are you sure that Model Match does not work with the Orange receivers?
I don't know if the model match function works with Spektrum transmitters and Orange receivers, but that's a non issue for me. As I said if you are careful and make sure you have the correct model in your transmitter you will not have any problems. The fact that Orange receivers are CLONES is not an issue either. [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRyOXDGgIh8&feature=related] Some "ground tests"[/link] conducted with Orange receivers show that compared with Spektrum receivers the Orange receivers have less range (1056ft versus 792ft). In any case the range of the Orange receivers is more than adequate for any type of sport flying since at 790ft a 30% model is quite a small spec beyond human eyesight. With a difference in cost of about 400% I'll take the "CLONES" anytime. Note that Horizon have lowered the cost of the Spektrum Carbon Fuse 9 channel DSM2 receivers from $219.99 to $99.99 to keep up with the competition.

RE: hobby king orange receivers
Obviously if you "bind" all these receivers to the same transmitter, all these receivers will operate simultaneously when they are all on at the same time. That's completely normal; since your transmitter is the only one "bound" to those receivers no other transmitter will interfere with your receivers. Now you must be very careful to make sure you choose the correct matching model program from your transmitter because these receivers don't care which model is running.

Looks like your firewall broke exactly like mine. I also noted that with the DLE engine you need to enlarge the hole in the firewall quite a bit. I run an Evolution 26 and the carb is up front so I don't need to enlarge the firewall hole so much which inevitably will weaken the firewall some more. I will keep that in mind for my next 30cc MXS-R which I plan to run a DLE to reinforce the firewall right out of the box. In any case you did a very good job in strengthening your engine box, it should give you many more flying hours. As you mentioned this is a very light model so it need to be handled with more "finesse". Thanks for sharing

RE: RedWing MX2 Build
Two weeks ago I had a bad landing where the plane went over at the runway end. No external damage was evident even the prop was intact. Next time an attempt to start the engine was made I found the throttle servo was not working. When the cowl was removed to replace the servo it was found the engine box have suffered extensive damage during that last incident. The firewall was broke around one of the engine mount bolts, and both top and bottom engine box panels were broken. The fact is the whole airplane is built extremely light and any small incident may cause damage to the structure, especially when you take in consideration the size and quality of the construction material. For example the engine box is constructed of 1/16" ply and the firewall is just a 3/8" thick. For that reason I decided to take the opportunity to do some structural reinforcement of the entire engine box. First off I removed all the broken pieces, and proceeded to make new parts form the old ones, except on the firewall instead of using 3/8" ply I used 1/4'. The reason for using 1/4" ply for the firewall was that I intended to add 1/8" of carbon graphite lamination. My composite materials provider (Aerospace Composites Products) was running short of .007" Unidirectional Carbon Fiber Laminate material so I ordered one yard of .5 ounce carbon graphite tissue. I then laminated two 1/64" pieces of Obechi veneer with the CF tissue on both sides with finishing resin. After this lamination's where cured I added them to both sides of the 1/4" ply firewall, with a finished thickness of 3/8" . I could have used 1/16" pieces of ply to laminate a 3/8" panel that would be virtually indestructible but the fact is if the firewall don't break something else will so that's is a perfect example of over-engineering. Finally I laminated the rest of the box panel with CF tissue in both sides rest and reassembled the using 1/4" hardwood triangle stock to reinforce the interior corners. One important point to keep in mind when building CF lamination is that the lamination's must be cured while under pressure. Some folks use vacuum bagging for very large surfaces (i.e. glider wings) but for small flat parts to press the part between two solid wood planks will do the trick. If one desires a very high modulus the part must be cured under pressure at a higher temperature inside an industrial autoclave which is outside the budget of most hobbyist. In my case I press the parts between aluminum plates which I coat with Partall a low VOC polyvinyl alcohol which acts as a barrier between parts and mold surfaces. Then I cure them inside my kitchen oven at 125 degrees F.
