RE: LST XXL - Something Slipping?
When my Aftershock is first started after sitting for a bit, it will act a bit sluggish....but it goes away as the engine gets to temp....Yours might be doing the same thing....

RE: I think Ive killed my reciever battery in the xxl.
I have a Hrydrimax 1600, though the first one I had quit taking a charge after about 3 full cycles....this one I have now was good, but somehow one of the tabs between the cells broke and shut the radio off....I fixed it by soldering a motor shunt between the cells, and now i have a Reedy 1600 as a backup....My truck has the 590 steering servos, and a Futaba 3004 BB standard on the throttle/brake, so my amp draw might be a bit lower than some....

RE: Upgrading Aftershock
My Aftershock has been good relatively stock....I have RPMs with Lunsford turnbuckles on the front, only because I broke the right front stockers....That and a Dynamite chassis brace and you should be good to go.... It all depends on what you want to do and to spend I suppose...

RE: I think Ive killed my reciever battery in the xxl.
If it's a wall wart type charger, you need more than a couple hours......those only typically put out maybe 100 MaHr or so....Try leaving it plugged in all night and see what happens...I've got a 1600 Rx pack in my Aftershock, and it will last 8-10 tanks usually....

I'm thinking you may be able to convert it....I think the suspension parts are quite close.....see if an RC10GT2 chassis will work, then you'll need the transmission case and internals, a fuel tank, engine, and other assorted bits....I did something similar, only I turned a T-Maxx 2.5 into an E-Maxx...all it will take is some research....

RE: Question about Changing Fuel
ORIGINAL: OvalRacer99
ORIGINAL: ASSOCIATED_DRIVER
Would it be ok to switch Fuel to cut down on the Driving?
Absolutely. You might need to re-tune your engine for that fuel. They may be both 20% nitro, but oil content and type is probably different. If you can plan ahead and know how much fuel you need, you can try buying them on-line. I like going to the Hobby Shops, but I end up taking too much time in the store and spending too much for stuff I dont need.
The problem with buying fuel on line is the shipping is high due to the hazmat fee. Anything considered hazardous(flamable) is pricey to ship
Yes...Tower is $22, and A-Main is $50.....and that's in addition to the regular shipping rate....The only way I'd buy fuel online was if there was no LHS within a 3 hour drive....

RE: hpi 5b vs.lst2

RE: hpi 5b vs.lst2
ORIGINAL: Foxy 5b is geared for 47 mph out of the box (not taking into account tire swell which pushes it to around 49), it takes langer than the LST to get there, but it'll do it with a run up. ;) There's no comparison I'm afraid, and I know a lot of you fanboys are gonna jump on me, but you can't deny my reasons...the 5b is by far the better vehicle. If the price alone doesn't tell you that, here're some facts... 45mins per tank instead of 7. No pre-run prep, no after-run maintenance Tune once. Do it in 5 mins and leave it FOREVER. Bigger, so you can see it better further away 2wd is infinitely more challenging at this scale, and more rewarding 5b has an insane aftermarket (as does the LST, I know) Fuel is a fraction of the cost of nitro methane Receiver batteries that last days instead of hours Run anywhere (not sure about people saying about smooth ground! lol, the 5b will go places the LST cannot. Rooster tails from the torque output of a gas engine are one of the high points of the entire hobby, as are 5th scale wheelies. In the end the only thing the LST does better is cost less, jump higher and do flips. Don't get me wrong, I respect the LST. It's one of the better nitro trucks, but the 5b is a whole other league, wait no, it's playing a different sport. Indeed as others have said, it's apples to oranges. You'll pay a lot more for the 5b and you'll get a lot more machine. Simple as that.
I understand what you mean....My only grump with the 5b is the initial expense....for what a 5B SS kit runs....($875 or so), I can have a Losi XXL with a couple gallons of fuel, the few upgrades it needs from the box, a wing kit, and a better looking body.......[:D] I've been looking into a 5B SS to build because i live less than a n hour from the Hostile Hobbies track, and from what I hear, they have a sweet dirt oval I'd love to try....

RE: New to the RC World.
I'd suggest a nitro Monster Truck like those from Losi and HPI....you can run them just about anywhere, and they're tough as nails, so they'll be more forgiving of your "rookie mistakes".... I'd suggest one of the Losi trucks because they come with a better radio....either the Raminator or the XXL both come with a 2.4 Ghz radio, and the Aftershock priced at $334 at A-Main has a JR AM radio....a good value.... As a beginner, no matter what type of car or truck you choose, don't get caught up in all the "upgrades"....Some of them are pure blingy junk...Once you kinda start leaning towards a particular product, start going through the forums and see what people think of some of the "upgrades" and you'll see my point....Most cars and trucks have decent manuals, and if they are'nt in the manual, a good exploded diagram can be found at most makers websites....If you learn to work on your RC, you'll save some money and frustration, and maybe have some fun in the process.... Just remember that the whole point is to have fun....

RE: My first attempt to tune an engine myself..
Sounds like a good start....One thing to remember...The LSN only affects the low speed operation, while the HSN affects the mix all across the RPM band....another thing.....make small adjustments.....like the hour hand on a clock....It might take a bit longer, but you'll have an easier time finding the sweet spot....and don't tune strictly by temp....make sure the engine is up to operating temp, and not over heating, but if it's a bit too cool or too hot, but runs right with a good smoke trail....you're in business....I think the engine makers tend to hedge their bet by telling us in the manual to not go over a certain temp to cover their butt....The M26SS in my Aftershock runs perfectly at 250-260....it was hotter, but instead of adjusting the mix, I opened the windshield on my Ram MegaCab body and it cooled right down....
