RE: Parkzone Super Decathlon - Motor only works for a brief moment
Make sure your throttle trim is set all the way low before you turn on the receiver.

RE: Brownouts....
But, getting back to the brownout problem... They build some very powerful computers these days with CPU's and memory chips that run on 3.3 volts or less and they expect in the near future that they will run on half that voltage. And, my pentium computer never browns out. It gets really hot sometimes and slows way down but it doesn't just shut down. I know... I know...its because it has a good power supply. So, my wife wants to know why is the spektrum computer chip such a power hog? She's kind of nosey...but nice. Bob Bob

RE: Radio
Well, Futaba has sort of priced them selves out of the market for the average working guy. They are, in my opinion, way over priced. Hence... fewer seen at field. JR radios are a little pricey too. Good, but expensive. Spektrum has a lot of bells and whistles and problems... and excellent customer service... Try to save up and get a Futaba... You will never be sorry. Bob

RE: Brownouts....
Hmmm.... I think I'm begining to see a trend here... It seems there is a price to pay for using DIGITAL computerized equipment. Digital eats batteries... So I'll upgrade my batteries and see how it goes. Thanks to all for the good input.... Bob

RE: Can Transmitters go out of calibration?
Man, you must be bending them sticks at the full throw position. Maybe you should dial in 120% throw on those channels so you don't force the stick beyond its normal high or low position. Maybe that would work.... Bob

RE: Brownouts....
Well I guess my point is.... there was no such word as 'brownout' until after Spektrum came along. I started out using the old "Citizenship" brand radios with just one channel and a rubber band powered escapement. The receiver had a "tube" instead of transistors and some of my equipment required 45 volt batteries. Later we 'upgraded' to reed tuned radios. Made by 'Bonner' I think. Lots of mechanical problems. Finally, we started using the modern day 72mhz systems and I tried just about every brand that came along. I never had a so-called brownout. That is probably why flyers from that generation became a little lazy about battery management. I flew with some very old, tired batteries and never had a 'brownout' .... The controls would get lazy and sluggish but I always managed to land safely. I've never had a plane just shut off in the middle of a flight. I don't know why they would design a receiver to do that. If I want to fly my batteries till they are nearly flat I should be able to. And, the receiver should be the STRONGEST link in the system, not the first thing to quit... doesn't make any sense to shut it down. I'll go ahead and use the dx6i for my park flyers because I like the bind-n-fly feature. But, Spektrum needs to fix the receiver so that its the LAST thing to slowly fade away. And that's my 2 cents worth... hopefully Spektrum reads this stuff. Bob

Brownouts....
Why is it that only Spektrum receivers have brownouts? I've flown Futaba every since the first ones came out and I've never had a brownout. I bought my first Spektrum this week and I'm a little worried that I'm gonna start crashing all the time. I know, I know... put in a bigger battery and all's good...maybe.... The people that build the chips for Spektrum should lower the cutoff voltage somehow. That way, the servos would start moving slowly and we'd know that the battery was low. Just curious... not trying to start a Futaba vs Spektrum war. Bob[8|]

RE: SR 120 Tail Motor
I have a CP Pro also and I fixed my tail motor problems with the fix shown below. I took a tin lid from a dog food can and used a sharp pair of scissors to cut out the part. The failure is caused by the front motor bearing, which is just a press fit. It comes loose and moves forward which allows the armature to move out and the brushes get destroyed in the process. Some have tried glueing the bearing in but that's a little iffy.... After doing this mod I have not replace a tail motor in over a year...

Of course people who have never owned one will claim it can't be done...how do they know that???? Go to FMA's web site and look around.... and remember, if you do buy one they hold thier resale value better than almost any product... AB

RE: JGF 450F / Scorpion swap.
Scorpion motors are supposed to be the hot setup these days. Switching to a JGF450F would, in my opinion, be a step down in performance. AND.... your batteries won't last any longer.. 5 min flights are about the norm for 450 sized heli's.. (there are rare exceptions) If you try to fly any longer you will likely ruin you're lipo and that gets expensive...fast. Bob

RE: Handoff Hover For RC Helos??
There are a few auto pilots on the market and they work great. Here is the FMA co-pilot web site: http://www.fmadirect.com/new_applications/copilot2.html I have a co-pilot and it hovers the heli hands off and will even return the heli to level flight if you release your right stick. It works in light winds.... Bob[:D]

RE: Brushless help
My son runs the Ammo 28-45-2700 with an ACE 45 amp ESC. He use's Venom 2100 20c 3s lipos. Rated for 42 amps. It's the best flying heli I ever saw. It can go from dead stopped on the ground to a 50 feet hover in the blink of an eye over and over again. No strain... He flys around for about 8 minutes and still has plenty of power to safely land. The motor is only slightly warm to the touch and the Lipo and ESC are barely warm too. That motor (Ammo), is rated for 500 watts. So its not really working all that hard. It's truely an awesome, powerful motor. Very nice craftsmanship too... I'm gonna put my Medusa flight recorder on his heli and get some real time readings on it this spring weather permitting. As for a the Scorpion motors... I don't know... it would be nice if a guy could afford to have one of each to test. I really doubt it could be as good a motor as the Ammo. These are my opinions based on actual experience with the Ammo. Good Luck and let us know how it goes.... AB

When the looooong beep starts just lower the throttle to zero. It might beep one more time to let you know its ready. Hang on to the plane when you raise the throttle stick.... Bob

RE: Got a question
Just use the USB and make sure you're camera shows up in the directory. THEN... get Movie Maker running and find the menu that opens videos and click on IMPORT video. When is asks for the video location browse to you're drive E, or F or whatever and click on that then ok.... That will convert it to something Movie Maker can deal with...Work's every time. AB

Movie Maker is really good. You can lay your camcorder on it's side and record ( I use the 'Flip' Ultra ). Then Movie Maker can flip it and rotate it back to normal. It's great for that and much more. AB

RE: Blades
Oooops...forgot... I also added an extra rubber dampener on each side of the center hub. That cured tail boom strikes which eats blades. I got a tail boom strike simply by pulling back on the elevator stick too quick and too hard. I think plastic and carbon blades are great for good heli pilots. But for us not-so-good pilots, wooden is the way to go. I'd rather replace a blade than also have to replace a bunch of broken rotor head parts too. AB

RE: Blades
Also... if you're MX400 Pro came with the plastic center hub (4001-101), you should replace it right away with the aluminum one (mine broke while in a 10 foot hover). Alum one is available at tower hobbies. Yes, the stock 6 pole motor does overheat. But I find that if I keep my hover practice sessions to 5 minutes or less its not too bad. I use 20C-2200mah 3 cell lipos and they get a little warm too. I use an UltraFly 25amp ESC. It gets a little warm. The stock ESC sucks.... I have an FMA co-pilot on mine also. Its awesome. Hovers hands off. I advise using the lightest blades you can find and keep everyything loose. Avoid any tight linkages. Don't tighten the tail rotor belt to tight. My son has the MX450 XL with an ammo inrunner in it and it only gets barely warm no matter how much he flys. He use's Venom 20C-2100mah 3 cell lipos and they stay very cool. He has the Ace 45amp ESC. Hope some of that helps...remember...practice, practice, practice.. AB

RE: This is probably a stupid question...
Well, that carbon fibre tube is like a giant antenna and if the servo wires are wrapped around it, then the servo wires are gonna carry RF to the receiver. Take an Ohm meter reading on carbon fibre. It conducts.... Just my personal observations... Bob
