RE: 150 meter rule.
So true. Even flying a straight line over the runway in a cross-wind separates the men from the boys, as well as maintaining altitude. It's really great that 2Sunny has intersecting runways at his field. You don't see that too often.

RE: Are Pattern Planes Good 2nd Planes?
Is that brocolli growing on your head? Cause it looks like it. But anyway, I think a turbine powered jet, like an F-5, or an F-15 makes for a better choice of a 2nd plane. Anything else in-between is just a waste of money.

RE: TOWER HOBBIES SUCKS
That's pretty harsh, and quite a bit of a stretch to say that something, someone, or a company sucks just because of a couple of screw-ups. Especially Tower Hobbies. Yes, they mess up from time to time. But that's only because of the employee, not the company. Tower always fixes their errors quickly. They keep notes on who screwed up, and when they have enough documentation, they fire that person.

RE: Dreamworks Mobile Products - Officially Launched!
That pick-up truck is going to be able to haul all that weight around? You must have one hell of an engine in it, with an equally strong transmission & cooling system! But the gas mileage is going to hurt with gas being $4.00+ a gallon. Don't forget the security system! That thing is going to be a target.

RE: How many wing bolts?
Just because the instructions call for one wing bolt, does not make it a good idea. Remember, there are good designs and there are bad designs. Two bolts are better than one. While one bolt will hold the wing in place, it's not a good idea to use just one. All good "builders" find fault with kit designs (especially with ARF designs), and make adjustments and reinforcements where needed & necessary. The head can sometimes pop off of nylon bolts ... Rare, but it has happened to me. Due to age of the bolt, or vibration on weakened bolts that have 'stretched' due to slightly over-tightening after many times. Good thing I had two bolts on my wing when that happened! ARF manufacturers claim their planes can be ready to fly in 10 hours or less! NONSENSE !! When someone builds an ARF in that short amount of time, their plane won't last, or will have mechanical difficulties. I reinforce the bulkheads, re-glue, fuel-proof, and secure flimbsy set-ups and control linkages on every ARF I build. My ARF planes don't crash, are reliable, built solid, and don't weigh a lot more after the modifications I do. Remember, the manufacturer is not always right ... anyone can make a bad design. So, question the soundness of the instructions and make adjustments.

RE: What to use to hold screws in?
Since the holes are re-tapped to a larger size, use a larger size screw. For example, if you re-tapped the hole from a 4-40 to a 6-32, then use a 6/32 screw. Problem solved! JBweld does not do a good job if you re-thread. You can easily tighten the screw too much and strip out the JBweld. A heli-coil does a much better job. But in the first case, re-tapping to a larger size hole and screw is a very good fix.

RE: LiPo rookie
ORIGINAL: jackalope54 Hi all - I'm new to LiPo batteries and have a concern. I'm using a 4S 3600 mah LiPo for my Hobbico glow engine starter. The battery is an inexpensive one from Hobby King. I noticed today the battery swelled at some point while at the field. I quit using it for the day and brought it home and charged it on my Onyx 235 at 1C. The battery seemed to charge without incident. When I first attached it to the charger, the balancer showed a range of 4.012 to 4.020 for the 4 cells. After charging (only required 785 ma), the cells ranged from 4.230 to 4.307. I disconnected the battery for a few minutes, then went back to let it balance. I'm now getting a Battery Voltage Error shortly after starting the charger. No problem with other LiPo batteries and the battery in question is driving my starter as usual. Question 1: Is the battery safe to use? Question 2: What are the typical causes for a ''Battery Voltage Error'' in a battery that seems to be functioning well? Excessive voltage, loss of a cell or ??? Thanks Jack
My suggestion is to quit while you are ahead. Don't take a chance burning your house down, go back to nitro or gas.

RE: Painting with rustoleum
PS. I have not seen rustoleum to be fuel-proof. I tried it once a few years ago and found the glow fuel to gum-up rustoleum in about 30 minutes if the glow fuel remains on the paint. Then the paint lifts off the surface. If anything, rustoluem may be fuel resistant for 5~10 minutes as long as the fuel is only a thin layer. But if you poured glow fuel onto rustoleum and let it sit there for 10 minutes, you may as well have used paint stripper.

RE: Painting with rustoleum
When it comes to smaller decals and rivet decals, I find it to be OK to clear-coat OVER them. But when it comes to 3/4" decals and larger, I put them on top of the clear-coat. I do this because I have found clear-coat pulling/peeling away from the larger decals in a matter of a few months when the larger decals are under the clear coat. Basically, I feel clear-coat does not adhere well to the shiney/smooth surface of decals. So clear-coat will easily peel off large decals, but still be OK for the smaller decals simply due to the smaller size. Decals stick to clear-coat better than clear-coat sticks to decals. Clear-coat, like paint, needs a somewhat scuffed surface to adhere well. Decals have a very smooth and shiney surface. When the clear-coat comes off the large decals it leaves a blemish. Then you have to get the decal off the paint to replace the decals when it falls apart. It's much easier to remove/replace decals from clear-coat when the decal is on top of the clear-coat.

Secondly, urethane is fuel proof, but it takes days to dry to the touch, and a week to cure. When it dries, it dries to a hard and perfectly smooth surface. But let it dry.

RE: WHY GO EDF IF YOU HAVE TURBINES?
For me, EDF's are not viable. Plus, they are too much work ... figuring amps and voltage, then matching up the brick sized battery to the ESC, and finally to the motor! What a headache! Not to mention the batteries can burn the house down. I'm not willing to take that risk. Plus, I want to be able to use full power for more than just a burst of a few seconds. For me, EDF is an acronym for Energy Diminishing Fast Remember ... Turbines can have the addition of smoke, and that is AWESOME !! When an electric smokes, that is NOT awesome. RE: LHS Rant!
ORIGINAL: Toysareforkids  I went to a hobby store, it's not a small one, a good size place, about 60 miles from me (the nearest one is 45 miles from me) , I have been there a few times before. I brought him two new finished planes to hang to sell. A CG Cub with used OS 4 stroke (cost me $390.00 to build), and a TT Champion 45L with a new OS 46 FSR with a tuned pipe, and mechanical retracks (cost me $435.00 to build), both with all new unused Futaba S148 servos. First he asked me ''did you remove the RX's & do I have the batteries for them, those servos aren't very good!''  I was talking to him, and he made me feel like a kit built plane, was really not as good as a dog plane (ARF) He said that people would come in and buy his arf there, a 50 something inch wing span first, because it came with the radio. at $450.00 I said if he talked the way he does he could sell my planes for the low price of $250.00 , and a new radio from his shelf for less than the $450.00 and they would have a much better setup & plane! He looked at me like I was nuts!  Then a guy walked in and was looking around, then asked where are your airplane kits, and he pointed at the only arf he had and said there! The guy said No your real kits. The owner said what kit did he want, he can get any plane he wanted, but he wasn't going to get kits in, that will sit on his shelf for 4-6 months before selling! I said thats not true, that he would get builders to come and but them to support his store. He said Nope ain't going to happen! Looked around and asked How come you have every building accessories that Dubro, and every other brand sold, stock all the colors that Ultracote & monocote has, lots of different types of glue, and only 6 pieces of balsa wood, and about 10 pieces of piano wire, everything for building, and no kits! just a wall of arf's? He said people want those things! I said people want kits too!  He also had dozens of helicopters, small and large, and I don't know how many rc cars he had lots, and parts for everything! Just none of them real wood airplane kits. Oh, the guy that came in looking for a kit, just shook his head and walked out!  I left my planes for him to sell, and I hope he does it soon!  I need the money for my wifes meds!  I'm off the box now!   Pat
The guy is entitled to run his store to the ground any way he wants ... Either fast or slow. Seems like he chose the fast route.

RE: WHY GO EDF IF YOU HAVE TURBINES?
With turbines, you can also have smoke ... and that is AWESOME! You can also turn the smoke off and on whenever you wish. With EDF's you can't get smoke. But if you do get smoke, it only happens once, and you can't turn it off. Chances are that smoke will cost you a few thousand dollars in repairs, or the loss of your jet. Plus, when smoke is coming out the tailpipe of your EDF jet, it is not awesome. Tubines win!

Their excessive fees only line the pockets of the retiring CEO, Meg Whitman, who was paid 14 million a year, plus a 4 million dollar bonus, plus a generous retirement salary ... and that woman is only 55 years old. Now she's a CEO of another company, Yahoo! The new CEO of ebay will make an estimated 22 million a year as salary & bonus. That is what those pesky fees are paying for ... GREED Meg Whitman is very wealthy; Fortune magazine values her at $1.4 billion. She ran for Governor of Calif and she spent more of her own money on the race than any other political candidate spent on a single election in American history. Spending $144 million of her own money ... from the fees at ebay. ebay remains a formidable business, generating $2.18 billion in revenue in the fourth quarter of 2007, up 27 percent from the same period a year earlier. Profits were $531 million (39 cents per share), up 53 percent from a year earlier ... All from their excessive fees.

RE: help me deal with this guy!!!
Taz, ebay-of-pigs might work for you, and you may be happy with it. But for the AVERAGE guy selling a few items on that miserable site, or trying to turn it into a business, the fees total 15~20%. That is enough to crush any start-up venture. But e-bay-of-pigs counts on ripping off the thousands or millions of little guys who don't know, nor have time to learn all the ins-and-outs of that complicated system, or ever get to a higher level. That is also why many people have said they fear doing business on that website. Because you never know when the seller will drop off the website. More 'small businesses' have died on that site than in the real world. Secondly, I don't care what ebay-of-pigs has for 'overhead'. What I can tell you is that for taking at least 15% of a sale from the typical seller, they should provide a tangable service to their sellers ... not just provide a website. If someone is taking 15% of my profit, they better be working for me by packing and shipping the product, doing paperwork, and taking me to dinner three times a week. When advertising fees for ANY company are in the area of 15%, it is simply too much. If you don't mind, then that is OK for YOU. But for large and small corporations, the advertising/marketing budget/limit is 3~4%. Anything above that, is deemed excessive. But like I wrote, if you are happy parting with that much of your money, then good for you. But don't try to shove the ebay propaganda. No one seems to be buying into it. And as far as exposure to millions of people!? Remember this ... of those millions, there are millions of people NOT interested in your product, and NOT viewing your product. Yet you 'think', or are 'led to believe' that millions are looking at your product. For the most part, the item you list is viewed by just a few hundred (maybe a few thousand people) who are mostly 'tire-kickers.' The reality of it is that millions are ignoring your listing. Just look at how many different bidders you have on one item ... 2? 3? 4? The average is between 4 and 10 bidders per item. Not much of an audience, huh? Having exposure to millions of people means nothing if they are not the ones who will buy your product. TARGETING your audience AND marketing to THEM is the key factor. Without that, you have nothing. At e-bay-of pigs, you are lost in the crowd. Next, the item you list, is lost within the hundreds or thousands of other similar/identical items that people have to sort through to get to yours. Most of the time, people don't have the time to do this. Then, to avoid sniper bidders, you have to pay an added protection fee! All those fees add up. The biggest profit maker on any item is e-bay-of pigs. You are working your a$$ off for them! Also, you have no branding on e-bay-of-pigs. No real identification or recognition either. QVC would be a better venue, but that also does not TARGET the audience you need or want unless you are selling bras and kitchen items to women. You have no advantage on e-bay-of pigs. As big as your 'store' may be (and in actuality it is probably your garage and home), you are competing on the same level as every other seller. You develop no outstanding profile. No real store that people can see or relate to. To any buyer, you are just another listing ... which there are thousands of! Now add the 'punishment factor' that e-bay-of-pigs inflicts on you if you mess up or have a few ungrateful customers! Come on, are they nuckin kidding someone with that! No 'business should have to deal with that crap! Then to top it off, you can't leave a bad rating for some lunatic who deserves it. You can't get warned by other sellers, nor warn others !!! That is just NOT right.

RE: help me deal with this guy!!!
ORIGINAL: Taz_Hobbies I didn't compare ebay to a brick & mortar operation. I simply pointed out that the fees sellers pay who use them and complain about it should compare the fees to the costs of a brick & mortar operation. I did the numbers and there is no comparison. 100% positive feedback seller means nothing, no offense. It only means you do not hardly sell on ebay. We recently got a negative from a buyer in Israel who purchased a $3.00 item that he received in 7 days and his feedback comment was ''I didn't like the service''. Completely undeserved and ridiculous, but if you move any volume at all, you will get those no matter how 100% perfect you may think you are. Where do you come up with these 15%+ fee numbers? This is typical of eBay bashers, the numbers quoted for the purpose of their arguement are almost always inflated, in this case nearly TWICE what the actual ffes are! eBay charges 11% (in the category we sell in) Final Value Fee on the first $50 of a transaction and only 6% of the balance up to $1000, not 15%. And if you maintain a good account, get your TRS badge, then you pay even less. A $100 transaction on ebay costs me $6.85 in total eBay fees. That looks alot like 6.85%, a far cry from the 15%+ you claim. If you are going to bash eBay and as a result those who use it to provide income for our families, by all means at least use the facts. And FYI, even if you weren't Top Rated, that same $100 sales only costs you $7.30, which is 7.3% of the sale, FAR less than your 15%+ number. TRY and keep the facts straight. I have my moments with eBay, but i really dislike when folks bash ebay and they have no idea what they are talking about. I started my ebay business with less money than I have invested in my 30cc MX2... But I can read the fine print.
Taz, The fees are MANY and EXCESSIVE. The listing fee. The picture fee. The selling fee. The NEW shipping fee. The paypal fee. They take money from sellers at every step. Since ebay-of-pigs is basically a website, I feel their fees should be more like 5% TOTAL. Other than their exotic corporate buildings and several servers, there is nothing tangable about them. Websites do not take up large amounst of space (like a warehouse would), need insurance, require cleaning, do not store products, etc, etc. When I sold a few items, years ago, I added it up to 20% ... yeah, I did the math and came up with 20%. Then, they changed the fee structure; they increased the listing fee by combining it with the selling fee .. UPFRONT !! Next, you have to deal with all the last second sharks who bid on your item within the last 50 seconds of the listing in their attempts "steal" the item from you. I don't deal with that mentality. A few times, I had a $200 engine bid to @ $60 until the last minute of the listing. Then it shot up to $140 for the final sale price. I would have only sold it for $140 to a relative or a good friend ... not a stranger! THEN, to top it off, paypig takes another 3.5 % In the end, I had to pay nearly 20% for an item I already LOST money on!!!!! I also bought a few items to sell on ebay-of-pigs. My profit was -15%. Even when I did sell something and made a profit, flea-bay made more of a profit than I did ... AND I DID ALL THE WORK ... AND LAID OUT MY OWN MONEY !!! This is not just my opinion, many people I know who tried it, feel the same way. If you are paying 5 figures a month for selling items on that websie, you are paying too much. It basically costs flea-bay nothing to list your item, yet they take a large percentage of the sale for doing ABSOLUTELY nothing. If I were to pay that amount for selling items, I would expect some form of assistance with my selling, such as storing and shipping the item for me. Yeah, they have those local ebay stores that do that, but they take 50% of the sale price. Taz, if you are making money on that site, then you must be buying things at 10~25% of the selling price. As far as I can tell, anything higher than that would not be a worthwile business venture. Yet flea-bay still charges too much (and it does add up to 15~18% of the sale) .. all for doing nothing. In my opinion, exposure to a large market is not worth 15~20% of the sale of every item I were to sell. Next, add in the factor of the type of people you are dealing with ... those that wait until the last second to pay the lowest price. BTW ... A credit card machine is cheaper than paypig fees ... The machine can be bought or leased from your bank. Plus, the average transaction fee the bank would charge you is 50 cents for debit card transactions, and 0.75~1.5% for credit cards .. that includes AMEX, Discover, and Diners Club. All in all, that is not the type of business or customer base I would want to deal with ... EVER.

You recieved your item within a week of your payment, yet gave me a ton of crap over the date it shipped. You also accused me of saying you didnt pay on time....which I never said. I can go back threw all my messages to you, and you can do the same. I simply didnt say anything about you paying late! I described the parts the truck needed to run. The steering hub includes the ball and stub axle. And as already mentioned, I said it needed rear tires but included them anyway. I never said the truck was ''race ready'' or ''excellent'' condition. I said it was good. The T3 is an older truck. To expect it to have shocks like new, no scratches and not need a part or too is not practical. No one new to the hobby would be likely to buy a roller which already needs parts other than the electronics, nor should they. I have a B3, it runs awsome and yet is not in as good condition as the T3 I sold you is. I have 8 years experience in this hobby, and 4 years on ebay. I detailed what the truck needed and had plenty of pics of the truck. You recieved the truck withing the estimated arrival time given by ebay...which was 3-9 days. 6 days. I truely do not see any basis for the constant complaints you have sent me.
You wrote a very nice, and thought-out letter. But I would suggest that you not send it. It appears that the person you are dealing with, doesn't have the intelligence to read or comprehend. From the sound of his replies, it doesn't sound like he understood anything you wrote, or didn't even read your emails! I think it's best to leave it alone, block the idiot from being able to buy from you, and hope he doesn't leave negative feedback for you. Hopefully, he will just go away. PS E-bay-of-pigs sucks. I never liked the thought of dealing with them as a buyer, and especially as a seller. Their fees are many, and excessive.

RE: Horizon Hobby could not help me with Saito trouble, what do I do?
Personally, I think you should be feeling like a helical plane wrapped around a vertical substrate.

RE: Most Blatant
I'm just noticing that there appears to be more 'shills" for other companies that are out to bash Hobby King than there are supposed 'shills' for Hobby King. So, let's rename this topic; "Battle of the Shills." Let the drama continue .... [8|]

RE: Most Blatant
ORIGINAL: topspin
ORIGINAL: scale only 4 me I'll stop being paranoid when everyone stops being out to get me
Since when is quoting something from a manufaturers web site paranoia? They pay people to do exactly what you just did, try to discredit anyone who says anything bad about them. I don't see this kind of response to the very rare complaint about Horizon, or Tower, or Headsup, or Leaders hobby, or a dozen other reputable sellers but say something negative about Hobby King and the hired guns come out of the woodwork with their fangs bared. Paranoia? Not even relevent in this case, just an attempt to derail the topic away from the subject of the OP.
I'm not sure if the person who started this topic knows what he/she is writing about. First of all, Hobby King has always been good to me. They have the lowest prices around, fast shipping, named brands for less, good customer service, and a great selection of products. I've always received good quality merchandise from them too! I also love the women at Hobby King. They are fast, easy, and beautiful. There ... I did my job. I hope I get a $100 check from HK this month! [:D]

RE: glow plug thread
The best use I've found for an MA magazine is to use it as a cutting board for small pieces. The articles are not worth reading, nor are they un-biased. So, after a few uses, I pull off the shreaded pages and have a fresh cutting board. I go through this process several times before using up the whole magazine. By that time, another MA magazine arrives. Before I discovered this use for the magazine, they went straight in the trash every month.

RE: Jet Product Supply Monopolies
ORIGINAL: ModellbauUK Â Just a bit of market research to the Jet Community Is the general consensus that it is better to have one supplier who holds the distribution rights for products better than having a number of suppliers offering differing products? Ian
Must be a really slow & lonely day for you. [8|] # 1- This doesn't happen anywhere in the world. Not even in the strictest of dictatorships. Even Russia stopped doing this many, many (30+) years ago. But if your proposal were true, your company would not be the monopolizing company. Now back to my regular life before I shoot myself for reading and replying to this topic. This is another 2 minutes of my life that I'll never get back![8|]
