Can anyone with an New DB ARF and an old Bridi Fiberglass fuse try putting the new wing on the old fuse ? I have an original glass/foam kit but the wing cores were damaged long ago. I know I can order some new cores but for $135 for these replacements that are already skinned and routed for retracts ...
ELECTRIC? ELECTRIC? [X(] Well, if you must, I guess it's OK! But you at least have to duct tape a tuned pipe to the side of the fuse and make OS .61SF engine noises when you fly! [;)] RG [:D]
LOL ... why not ? something's got to vent all that sweet smelling ionized air out of the fuze I know its not the same, but flying them E-powered (and exposing a generation of E-flyers to planes they've never seen) I think might help extend the lineage a bit longer and thats the aim, right ? To keep these awesome looking birds in the sky for all to enjoy ? Thats what got me hooked years ago - the sheer sexyness of the design as a whole ... as well as the flight characterisitcs. I'm nowhere near being a great pilot, but I can remember the first time someone at the field handed me the box and on the other end was a honkin' Aurora ... and that almost zen-like feeling of being connected to the plane. I know I'll be missing out on shaking the airframe and electronics to death, miss cutting a gaping hole in a beautifully smoothed nose, miss having the wife ask yet again where the windex and paper towels went, miss having to deal with my motor never quite at max performance regardless of flight conditions, and miss having the CG change as my fuel goes from full to empty but - Hey !! Im an accomodating guy who's willing to put up with all those shortcomings [;)][:D]

Whats the thought towards Electric ? I've flown my fair share of pattern-ish birds for sport back in the day but have only been flying electric for the past 12-15 years. ... Still have a few of the old kits around that I saved for electricution. Back when I went "E" the power/weight ratio wasn't there but it certainly is today.

From what I understand, the FET's (which do the switching) do not like to be in a state of mostly "on" under high current applications for long duration.

RE: Sebart Wind 110
ORIGINAL: tIANci Wanna ask you guys something. I know that some car guys use the EPA of the radio on their throttle to cut down on performance. As I am using a 10S set up on my Scorpion 4035-250 and many have stated it will tend to throw a magnet on 10S, what is I were to cut down on my EPA and prop her for an 8S set up? It would give me much more duration as I am flying her 10S on an 8S power when WOT. Any comments? Will reducing the EPA change the feel of the throttle if I were not to adjust my throttle point when on 10S? Just wondering when my motor will throw her magnet esp when its about 30C here. Thanks!
This is generally NOT a good idea - it is very hard on the speed control FETs if run at near WOT for significant times. F5B/F5D guys use throttle on a switch (usually gear) to avoid high current switching associated with less than WOT

RE: Anderson Power Pole Connectors. Have you had a failure or not?
Here are a few tips on APP's - as I've said, I have been using them for well over 10 years and have probably used hundreds of them (I am into muscle cars too and have used them ALOT in re-wiring / add-on stuff in the cars like electric fuel pumps, custom radio installs, brake controller for my tow rig ... as well as using them for my home theater 7.1 speaker system). Once you start using them you will be hooked at the ease of making connections on alot of other projects. 1) use the correct size connector for the wire - there are 15a / 30a / 45a metal connectors that all fit into the same size housing. For the stuff you guys are using, I'd recommend the 45a. 2) the housings are keyed so you can attach them together. USE THIS FEATURE to "polarize" your connections so you never will connect (+) to (-) 3) make sure it "snaps" in - after the crimp, there are two slight tangs left on the metal piece. When sliding the metal into the housing, the tangs are oriented towards the corners of the plastic housing. Use a (very) small jewelers flat-head screw driver to press on the tang and seat the connector into the housing 4) West Mountain Radio has been supplying the R/C community for years with goodies and not only are they an excellent source for the power poles themselves, but they have a crimper that is every bit as good as the Anderson one but much less expensive. http://www.westmountainradio.com/PWRcrimp.htm While at West mountains site, Check out their rigrunner's - a good distrbution-block system for your 12v source to chargers with a bit of insurance built in. Here is a very good primer article about APPs published by FlyRC http://www.flyrc.com/articles/using_powerpole_1.html Again, I just want to state, that I have NOT used APPs in > 60a continuous use so how well they hold up under those circumstances is unknown to me. I have used them in pylon racers pulling 45-55a continuous with no ill effects Again, hope this helps and I too look foward to your findings on higher volt/amp use of them as I plan on it as well this coming season

RE: Anderson Power Pole Connectors. Have you had a failure or not?
just another data point - been flying F5B type missles for quite a few years now and only use APPs. Routinely pull >100A although not for significant amounts of time (<5 sec motor bursts) ... Also been flying electric only for over 10 years now in all sorts of powerful planes. 95% have been with APPs and never had a failure. other 5% were 5mm bullets and I did have 2 failures - one was bad (unknown to me) solder joint and one was actual fatigue where solder "wicked" up insulation and was constantly wiggled there to plug/unplug. RE: Why aren't brushless motors standardized?
Bret - I switched to Electric almost 6 years ago and I thought very similarly then to how you feel now, but the fact is, its just not that simple. Electric motor types are of such varied designs that simple comparisons - FOR NAMES SAKE - is pointless. Does a cheapo chinese bushed .46 swing the same prop at the same rpm as a Rossi or Jett ?? Does a Ferrari 3.0 Litre engine produce the same horsepower / Tq. as a Hundai 3.0 Litre engine ?? You need to break away from that line of thinking and concentrate on learning There are tools Electric flyers use to evaluate how a certain motor performs with a certain amount of power given to it, under a particular load. There are certain parameeters that are "known" about an electric motor and computer modeling can then take these known values, apply power loading and evaluate performance based on efficiency Such porgrams are called Motorcalc, Ecalc, and P-Calc, and Aveox's Virtual motor test stand. You can select the motor, number and type of cells, prop diameter, pitch, and type (manufacturer) and you get......more numbers [&:] What you actually get is an approximation - a starting point- as to what the performance should be in terms of static thrust, Amp draw , pitch speed, and a few other valuable tidbits. You can then change the parameters, such as prop size or number of cells and see what happens.....then take that and change motors from say, a Mega 3 turn to a 4 turn......and compare those data sets to what Axi's and Hackers give. .......buy the LARGE bottle of Bayer Aspirins, BTW What you have to understand is that Electric power systems of this magnitude, i.e. capable of flying a pattern plane effectively and efficently - is just coming off of the bleeding edge, Therefore it may be the case that its best to copy people like Kyle, Jason, and Tony who have already done the experimenting to see what works best......for now ......or you can start your own nice collection of motors that you've tested, been unimpressed with, and put in "That Drawer" along with speed controllers that have let the smoke out. I dont mean to sound derogatory in any way - its just that you're asking for it to be over-simplified.....and as in the case of the two analogies I gave above, sometimes that just silly once you look at it in the proper light Have fun.....burn electrons
