RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
There is a ground clearance problem, I'm running OS75 ax with 13x8 prop and it eats props. I heard complaints about the 95AX that its dead sticking alot because of the carb.

After the sixth attempt the wood filler starts to crack so I did what MinnFlyer suggested in that long awaited thread just with sealing iron not the heat gun, I guess what I got is good enough. Thanks

Thanks guys, I was thinking to put on the US 1000 a DLE-30 or the coming OS 33GT but the pounds of all of this seem on the border, but if you say the most fun is the 60 maybe I just stay with that.. my plan is winter project from a short kit Alex

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
Which ultra sport flies best 40, 60, 1000? Or how is the US 1000 flies compare to the 60? I read that the flying weight of the 1000 is between 12-14 pounds and when US1000 gets to 13 pounds there is a big degradation in flight characteristics. Its stuck in my head to build an ultra sport with retracts and fiber glassed so I’m thinking to build the US1000 from RCM plans and short kit from laser cutter with some gas motor, retracts and fiber glassed. I see that who added retracts to the US60 didn’t make wheel covers, why? Alex

RE: The dreaded step!
To all hinging haters I just dont understand you, hinging is fun especially with CA hinges and slot machine with cutting guide if done before covering with small nails instead of pins for gap and CAing through toothpicks that secure the hinges. Yes I can see how you hate this if you are hinging after the airplane is covered.

RE: The dreaded step!
Steps I dread the most: CG measuring => battery installation. joining wing halves - I never get the dihedral angle in the instructions and once over sanded. most afraid of wing saddle - yup once I had to use a big screwdriver to separate the wing from the fuse [&:]. Now everybody repeat after me: I LOVE SANDING, again I LOVE SANDING until it sinks.

RE: KAOS AND RELATED PLANES AND INFO
Here is what I would do: decide which hole you need to close, take the T nuts out of all four holes. know and mark the holes you want to keep (you might want to keep the front holes because of T nuts clearance to the side chick) and try to insert a dowel with epoxy in the holes you dont need - THE dowel should be sanded to match the thickness of the current mount. than clean and sand a bit the top and bottom of the maple mount of previous epoxy and prepare a thin ply wood shaped as the mounts or similar. after the holes to keep marked, glue with epoxy the plywood pieces top and bottom of the engine mount and drill new holes in the new mount. after you fuel proofed it install new T nuts. RE: Name that plane (kit)!
TB, Why don't you build another one chippy or even better Ultra Sport 60, IMHO the US 60 builds easier, faster and flies even better. Either way put a US 60 on your build list. My chippy went into the ground because of elevator dead stick, very sad (I didn't get totally out of it yet). If you need an ARF([:'(]) airplane to fly this season with your DLE 20 consider the GP revolver 70", I see how they fly at our field and I continue building. Alex

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
I raised the question about weight. I’m considering putting retracts, fiber glassing, painting an Ultra Sport 60 to make it survive dings from transporting it. I don’t see any ultra sport fiber glassed and painted to get an idea how much weight is added in this process. One thing is to do it to a warbird which doesn’t fly that well to begin with and another thing to do it to a US 60 and make it 10 pounds instead of 8, in that case should I go for a bigger engine than 75AX? Because if it will weight 10 pounds maybe its not worth the effort… Alex

RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
TJ, I was thinking about fiber glassing the US for some time, my last US without glassing came to be 7.9 pounds ready for fuel. Can you please measure the weight before, during, and after- I mean before glassing, after glassing and after painting. this route of glassing painting and retracts is interesting I just dont want to build a warbird that flies like a brick out of an ultra sport. Mustangman, Once I mentioned about "maybe no turtle deck.." and every body said - that because of this turtle deck this airplane does these nice knife edges so I want to keep it. I like the turtle deck , its one of these things that make this airplane unique and many times I hear "hey that's an ultra sport where did you get one we had to build it back then" so I'd like to keep it, the canopy is a different story so I'm finishing my second US60 and preparing for my 3rd.

Hi everybody, Just ordered the tower kaos 40 and planning to recover it and use OS 46 AX probably with 10x7, 11x6 prop. One thing I really dont like is canopies (although I think they are beautiful) so I was thinking to change the canopy to something: 1) no canopy at all 2) a plywood fin in the shape of the canopy will the fin or no canopy affect the flight characteristics?

RE: New Hitec Aurora 9-Channel 2.4Ghz Radio System
ORIGINAL: udet1918 Well it looks as if I've finally officially joined the A9 fraternity. After my Sukhoi loss while maidening my brand new A9 I was a little bummed to say the least and didn't trust the radio. It took most of the flying season but I finally installed the A9 in another model and went flying with great success. No problems were encountered. I even changed receivers and flew the two voucher receivers one after the other and had no issues. I feel better now and have gained confidence in the radio once again, Thank Goodness. Ron
I couldnt find why you crashed Ron. I dont know if its related or not but I crashed an airplane with the Aurora because the elevator didnt respond, the ailerons did respond and it dove nose first into the ground. I read somewhere on this thread that somebody lost a jet because the elevator stoped responding, like him I had an Aurora 9 purchased with 9 ch receiver. I sent the receiver and the servos from that crash to Hitec for inspection but they came out fine so it must be the transmitter than... I fly precious kit built airplanes and I dont know if to trust the Aurora again since the real reason for that crash wasnt found so it can happen again. Alex

RE: Ultrsport 60 and Retracts
I'm also into installing retracts for the next US60, its gonna be my third. I have two pairs of those blue ones from H-9 but they require a special servo - JR or Spectrum and as was mentioned by minnflyer the end result is not that cheap. There are complaints about the blue retracts that the struts are weak and need to be replaced by the ones from Robart. Now from my research for retracts there are few more options to look into : http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJZD2&P=7 http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EFLG400 edit: I dont know the strut diameter if its 5/32 or 3/16. I didnt install any of them and had no experience with any of those yet so I'll be glad for any review. Alex

RE: Tower Hobbies Uproar 40 build
Thanks guys for your advice and input, maiden flight with an airplane unstable by design can be stressful but it went well, maybe even make it to the AMA magazine (I doubt it) as we had an AMA event today. OK I taxied the plane on the run way that it doest pull to any odd side and two more faster and took off. What I'm not used to is that when I turn the airplane sometimes it doesn’t react immediately its very sluggish or it needs more RPMs to turn and than it turns sharply on a dime. It’s a little airplane half throttle full throttle flies the same speed 46AX is more than enough, 11x5 props are getting bitten because of the low ground clearance. At low rate it turns sluggish but at high rate its very fast to turn, its my first fun fly so I need to get used to this type of flying. Maybe to go triple rates – landing, regular, on a dime. I'm in the process of trimming it and adjusting the controls, rates and expos but I see the potential its great.
