RE: To lighten up a G-26
Totally agree with you the engine being a work-horse, and that is exactly the reason why I couldn't resist the offer at the first place. Going to put it on a Great Planes Giant Big Stik, and use it as a "utility" plane, and never mind the rat race of getting the last oz of thrust from the 50cc class. I am going to try it anyways, lathe a groove spanwise both side, and this will put the weight close to the 20ei which I have and love it. I see your point of not having it converted, and just fill it up with gas and go fly.[:D]

To lighten up a G-26
I have just bought (the price is right) one of the last G26 from the LHS - the magnito version as they now stock the EI version. Looking at it, basically a flywheel at the back of the mount/housing, and coil to generate the spark. I know I could easily send it to Ralph for ei conversion which is a good option, but I think the magnito has its merits too, no ei module to blow (which is rarely in most cases but still), and no battery to charge, so it is a viable option. My question is can I lighten up the flywheel? Just lathe it off a few oz and it will save a bit. What's your thought on this? As well, what other thing can I do to save some more weight? Thx.

RE: E-flite J-3 Cub 25 ARF
Greetings from Thornhill, Ontario, Canada. Where is Thornhill you ask, well, it's about 25 minutes' drive north of Toronto. Today has seen the best of the past five weeks, about 7 Celcus, and best of all, sunny. Obviously, everybody took advatange of the good weather, and guess what, I found myself the only guy at the field, maidening my Cub. They might busy doing Christmas Shopping. btw, Happy Holidays. Funny thing happened, built stock, and the CG is right on, TP 2100 3S and a Master Airscrew 10 x 7 e-wood on the recommended e-flight 25. Took off was a breeze, but then the Cub went vertical, seriously, it was pointing vertically upward every single time I throttled up, down trim down trim, and more down trim. It was a handful. Managed to throttle down and came back my way. Funny thing is it amost glided beautifully on idling but as soon as I powered up, even say 20%, vertical again. The day was not ruined, I went home in one piece, and confused the hell out of the good wife, she did ask didn't you fly? The ironic part is I weent out with four newly charged packs, and used none. Anyway, I think the down trust is stock, mounted the radial mount of the outrunner against the firewall according to the instruction manual, and that's it. This stumbs me, any suggestion? Really appreciate your suggestions. Thx, Alex

RE: CRRC GF45i
I just want to share a very good experience with the rest of the CRRC engines owners. I bought a CRRC45 from a fellow club member after he crashed his YAK, not due to a flame out but tbad luck, hoovering 2 feet off deck and bit by a big cattle fly, took a chunk of flash off his neck and the rest as they say, is history. The engine survived but needed couple of parts to restore back to working order. Jim worked with me throughout the process, making sure that I ordered the right parts for the repair. To make a long story short, the courier used let us down, twice, and to make things worse, charged CRRC for the service. This was rather a frustrating endeavour for both of us but Jim stayed on top of things, continuous e-mail status update, and called me couple of time to advise me what happened. We finally resorted to using another means of shipping the parts to me, and I hope to received them shortly. I am extremely impressed with how Jim handled this order, though a very small one, by dollar value, but it led me to believe this is how he treats his customers, and would do everything possible to get them going. Well, Jim, You added another loyal customer to your list. I will campaign CRRC engines next flying season, and promote the excellent service Jim provides to us RC'ers. Good work, Jim, and many thanks. Alex Lee Toronto RC Club Thornhill, Ontario Canada

RE: BCMAEngines
Pat, you indicated that you are switching from glow to gas, and I assume this might be your first gas? That being said, I would strong recommend you bench run the engine, not for break-in purpose, but to familiar with the engine itself. The SP40 comes with four stand-offs which could be easily mount to a test stand. I built sort of a box to test all my gas engines before I mount the engine on a plane. I did run into minor timing problems with the SP40 as you can see from my post. If I had mounted the engine on a plane, this would have caused unduely stress to the firewall because I hand start my gas engines, the box stood up to all the flippings I did until I got some help from Adam. The engine now starts very easily with choking to get the carb wet as mentioned in the BCMA web, and couple of flips against compression, and you are on your way. Let it warms up for couple of minutes, and then advance the throttle, and aim for a smooth transition. I am fine tuning the carb once I got a full tank run (so far, it is so economic on gas that after ten minutes run, I still have half a tank to finish). As to running in the engine, I use Lawn Boy Ashless 32:1 mix with good results so far, it is your own preference, and I won't go into details on that. Hope this helps,[;)] Alex

RE: BCMAEngines
Just want to share my first hand experience dealing with BCMA Engines, and especially Adam. Received my SP40 but didn't have a chance to start it, and then bumped into this thread and got my interest going again. I was particularly interested in the Zama carb and couple of e-mails with BCMA, my order for the Zama carb was placed. Adam was also kind enough to point out that the new ignition module is timed for the Zama, and that he would do a straight swap for my "old" unit which has not been ran at all. The order was promptly dispatched and duely received, thank you very much. In starting the stock engine, I was getting pops but couldn't sustain a continuous run, I know I was getting ignition because the engine kicks. A quick phone call to Adam resolved the problem. He knows his stuff, he suggested that the timing from the factory might have been too advanced, and walked me through finding the BTDC, and then adjusted the timing to 30 degree advance. The engine now fires consitantly on the 3rd or 4th flips, let's say I am a very happy customer. Here are the numbers: Regular gas with a 32:1 Lawnboy Ashless mix for run-in purpose (will switch to symthetic after run-in) Master Airscrew Classic 18 x 8 Idle - 1800 rpm High end - 7600 varies to 7800 after a mere ten miuntes on and off run, I am very impressed. The muffler seems to shake itself loose but nothing couple of drops of locktite can't do. So there you are, I look forward to switching over to the Zama and will report back the test results. Good engine as far as I am concerned, and I do own a few of them, DA's, Zenoah's, etc. and I am quite please with this little guy.You have gained another happy customer, will be ordering my 26 soon. The threads portion is of 10mm diameter, but the shank itself (where the prop actually goes through) is 12mm. I know, because I just rimmed one prop out. I am sure there's a 12mm drill bit that I can buy. Alex

RE: Setting idle mixture on OS.61SF with 7L carb?
Hellow Downunder, how's the weather down there, I guess you guys are ready for the summer any time now. Anyway, your post saved the day for me. Being 19 C on a fall day, we were out there flying, may be for the last time this year. I was trying to run in my super Tiger 3250 and tried for the past whole week, and couldn't get it going. Some body suggested trying an OS 7D carb. I don't have a 7D but do have a 7M, got an adapter for the bigger throat of the 3250, and guess what, first flip, and things started progressively better for the rest of the afternoon. I had problem with setting up the low end but after going to the OS siite you pointed us to, clear as mud, and I might even be able to use the few pointers to tune the ST K-carb which - I will refrain myself and use polite words, is something else to sort things out. Anyway, the 3250 will be carefully run in now, weather permitting, and be put in a H9 27% Extra 260. I might be building a Brain Taylor Spitfire Mk9 while braving the good old Canadian witner, see you at the field in 6 months' time.

RE: FUJI ENGINE SERVICE REALLY SUCKS
3DD, To quote you directly: "DON'T YOU THNK THIS IS NORMAL OF A MOTOR THAT HAS BEEN FLOWN ALMOST EVERY WEEKEND FOR 2 1/2 YEARS." (I hope I am reading it right). I am not taking side, I do not own any Fuji's and this may not even be my business, but would you not agree that it has been pretty reliable up to the day you sent it in for repair? Obivously the engine has been serving you well otherwise you wouldn't have flown it for every single weekend for 2 1/2 years. I definitely do not condone the way it is being returned to you, but then with corporate down-sizing, right-sizing, out-sourcing, etc. good helps are hard to come by, and if I were you, I would just buy another engine of your choice, and for whatever its original investment, divided it by over 200 weekend days (Sat and Sun), you came out about 50 cents a week end, that, I consider pretty good value. I am not related to any of the dealers mentioned here, I am just a guy who will be extremely happy if I start my engine, take off, put put around, and landed on the right side up, that would be a good day for me.

RE: G-26 sagging on throttling up
Hello all, gone through the whole process the whole day until just now. Well, sorry to say close, but no cigar. There's one solution to the whole saga though, the plane, a Hanger 9 Ultra Stik Lite is now resting very nicely in the basement, and will not see fuel until the next summer, when things are a little bit warmer and as one of the Gurus in the club said before he gave up helping me - that this particular G-26 might be a snow bird - and needs to head south for the winter. Thanks for all the help, learn a lot about Walbro carb though. Let's close this one.

Ralph, Good to see you jump in. This one got everyone stummed. We tried everything in the book and still came out empty-handed. Same jug of fuel, (we tried a fresh mix too). People were suggesting of sending it back before the warranty runs out lol.[:D] By the afternoon, it was back to something like 10-13 C, so it wasn't that cold either. Alex

RE: G-26 sagging on throttling up
Thanks for the suggestions guys, what really bothered us were that there were at least ten of us this morning, some flying DA's, some Zenoahs of different sizes, they had no problem of the existing needle settings. Further more, that was the first thing people suggested, and we fooled around with the needle settings for most of the day. One guy went home and downloaded the Zenoah owners manual to ensure the factory settings: 1 1/8 Low, and 1 3/8 High were used as the baseline, and then richen up, leaned, with the engine stopped, with the engine running (don't do this at home kids), and we tried every tricks in the book, and these guys had a few their own. Will try to richen the H tomorrow again, to see this helps. Alex

G-26 sagging on throttling up
The engine had about 30 10-minute flights, and been on 40:1 Zenoah oil from the LHS. It performed flawlessly throughout on an MA 18x8 until this morning. Relatively cold, 3 degree C but bearable, and the field was loitered with the frequent suspects. Did the routine, choked the engine and started the engine with no problem, let it warmed up for 10 minutes and advanced the throttle and that's where the problem started, it sagged about half way and had to throttle back. All the engine gurus gathered, replaced the fuel, checked the spark ok, replaced all the fuel tubings, direct connect from an external fuel tank, adjusted the low end, the high end, took the carb out and washed everything and re-adjusted the two needles according to the Zenoah manual to no avail. Eventaully, some one suggested to run the engine with the choke closed to 7/8 of its travel, and left the gap opening to about 1/8 of an inch, and it ran fine. This stummed everyone,[:@] the whole day was wasted, and to run the engine with the choke almost closed is not what I wanted to hear, but the engine did run ok like that. The tech read 7600 on high rpm, and idles reliably. Any suggestion, all? Regards, Alex

RE: Reponse from Sierra
Dear all, I just wanted to give a quick update to everyone. I ordered my set of retracts for my TopFlight 1/5 scale P51 Mustang. There was some frustration over the process but guess what, the set arrived this morning, what a nicely crafted engineering piece. I did talk with Mr. Tenny yesterday, before the receipt of the parcel this morning. We had actually quite an open-hearted conversation, and I just want to share this with you all, so that we can appreciate what Darrel is going through and trying so hard to address all issues. I am not associated with Sierra in any ways, but just a happy customer that wants to share his experience with some of you who might feel a little bit neglected. According to Darrel, retracts are only a small percentage of his business which gone through some down-sizing, right-sizing whichever way you want to put it, in reality, when things are tough, you have to let your people go, I know, I have to do the same in the small engineering consulting firm I run and the feeling is not good. Darrel is happy to say that all his people landed on their feet quickly and some of them even found opportunities in other States. That being said, things have turned around the past little while and he has more orders that he could handle (a good problem), but also found himself with no craftsmen to do the job, and good helps are hard to come by. He is aware of the noise from the users communities, but when trying to balance all the demands on a daily basis, that is the last thing he has time to do (no excuse there but I think I appreciate his stance). There you have it, I will have no problems recommending Sierra's products to anyone who wants a first class design and products, and willing to wait for a little while for it to be shipped. Throughout my dealings with Darrel, he has been courteous, a true gentleman, and I hope you all give him a little breathing space. Best regards, Alex Lee Thornhill, Ontario Canada

RE: Reponse from Sierra
Thought I would give you all a brief update. A week has gone by, called Darrel Monday and this time it was really funny. His excuse was that for some reasons, the parcel returned to him from the US Postal Services, and he was going to the Post Office that same day to send it to me. What could I say, I was awed, that is a new one, I laughed so hard and at least I was entertained. I have to give him the benefit of the doubt. No e-mail to confirm the tracking # yet, and I know if he had sent it the second time as claimed, it would take about 10 working days to get to me. I am willing to give him that. Is there a good explaination from anyone on this board? Alex

RE: Lack of Status updates from Sierra...
Hello all, I stumbled onto this thread and I wished I had known this before I paid in full for my set of 1/5 scale retracts for my Mustang. I may be venting a little bit too soon but what happened is I visited the Toledo show and wanted to buy a set of retracts from Sierra's booth. I actually talked with Darrell and he told me that he didn't have it with him then, but if I would call him the following week, he could quote me the shipping cost to Toronto, Canada. I called the following week, and Darrell told me that he had one pair ready for me, and I gave him my credit # for the full price, and I gave him very specific instruction that I don't mind pay for UPS because I needed the waybill #, or registered pacel service, to eliminate I say he say sort of situation. Darrell took my order, and said that it will be going out the same day, and will confirm with an e-mail to let me know the tracking #. We are now into middle of May, and despite phone calls every single day and talked with him in person, no, I didn't have time yesterday, it will be out today. Yes, it was shipped last week but I am at the wrong computer and cannot give you the tracking # now. I sent you an e-mail but it returned, but so far, I haven't been notified by the Royal Mail that I have a parcel in waiting. As I was saying, it may show up tomorrow, but the whole thing doesn't give me a good experience. I really wonder why is this happening, he seems to be a very nice guy and appeared to be honest. Darrell, you spent a lot of time building your business, please be responsive and at least give these poor guys whom have so much faith in you and supported you. All you have to say is I run into these problems, or tell everyone what the status is, people understand, instead of letting them hanging there, and all the promotional trade events you attend would not help publicities like this. Your call.
