RE: Quick Question: Tamiya CC01 Jeep
Well, phooey! It seems goofy to have mounting places with nothing to mount. Oh well, thanks! I'll grind them off.[:)]

RE: Quick Question: Tamiya CC01 Jeep
Good guess, but no. The Jeep body attaches to the chassis at the front and rear, too. I thought that maybe the holes were for some sort of nerf bar or running board, but nothing like that came with the kit. [&o]

Quick Question: Tamiya CC01 Jeep
I'm finally finishing my YJ, but I see a problem. On the bottom sides of the Jeep body there are holes and a slot that make me believe that a part is missing, but the instructions don't mention this and I don't see anything on the part trees either. Can anyone look at this pic and tell me what goes here? Thanks! Jason

RE: confused
Thank you all. [sm=thumbup.gif] Halfway expected an Ebay vendor to not have a clue - especially since the receivers were no mentioned in the listing - but I e-mailed the seller and was told that they do come with the tank. One less thing to worry about. Now I just have to make sure they don't end me two on the same channel......and hope everything works right out of the box![:D] Thanks Again!!! Jason

I ordered them but I'm sure it will take a month for them to arrive. I just don't want to have to wait another month because the IR receivers do not come with the tanks. [:o]

I bought the two Heng Long IR tanks below for my sons to play with, but I just saw a Heng Long IR receiver on Ebay.....do I need receivers for each of the two tanks to battle, like a Tamiya? There was nothing in the listing to indicate it and I found nothing with the search function on RCU. Sorry for the dumb question, but I've not bought one of these before. Any info would be great. RE: Tamiya KV-2 Gearbox
Is it the gear in your 3rd and 4th photos? It looks as if the plastic gear hub cracked? Can't be certain from your photos as they aren't clear or illuminated well. If the hub isn't cracked I'd run a small pin through the plastic gear, brass piece and shaft to keep them all together.
The third photo shows the two gears that should turn as one. I thought about a pin, but the plastic 'lip' that couples with the brass is too thin.
An alternative, don't know it it would be appropriate, is to put a proper sized washer on the shaft next to the gear that wants to go awol then use a small collar next to the washer to keep the gear from moving but keeping it captive against the brass piece.
Unfortunately, the brass gear turns inside the black plastic gear like a bearing. RE: Tamiya KV-2 Gearbox
No, but I think it would only be a temporary fix and I don't want to have to go back into the gearbox again. I thought about JB Weld, but I'm not sure if I can get the brass and plastic to bond strongly enough. [:o] I might try it anyway, though.

Tamiya KV-2 Gearbox
The left gearbox in my KV-2 stopped working so I took it out and apart. The problem is that on one of the axles has a brass gear (with a hex end - like a nut) that seats inside a 32 tooth plastic gear. That plastic gear wallered out so that the two spin independently of each other. I know its a long shot, but if there is anyone out there who has recently replaced a gearbox and does not need the old one, I would like to buy the 32t plastic gear in the photos or even the entire non-functioning gearbox. It doesn't have to be from a KV-1 or KV-2, but I don't know which others might be similar enough to work. I hate to buy a brand new transmission for one gear, so any help would be appreciated. [;)]

RE: Finished(?) KV-2
From the video footage I can see that some of the road wheels and perhaps return rollers are not turning - probably because of paint. I'll have to get in there with some lube to see if I can free them up. Does anyone know if WD-40 has a negative affect on this kind of plastic? [:o] I'd rather spray them than try to take them apart.

RE: Finished(?) KV-2
I took the tank out in the yard and tested it to see if the tracks were going to be thrown off since they look so loose. They stayed on, so I guess I'll leave them as is until I have a problem. While I was out there I shot some video and made three versions - something for everybody. I guess it isn't obvious from the pictures, but I actually did put some black behind the exhaust. I think that some of it might have been covered up as I continued weathering. I'll have to add some more to make it more visible. Thanks!

RE: Finished(?) KV-2
Thanks! З РОДИУ! is one of two decals that actually come with the kit, but I definitely would like something to set mine apart from all of the other Tamiya KV-2 tanks. If she knows of something that might appear on a WWII tank or even a powerful slogan (short) that I could use it would be great.

Finished(?) KV-2
I finally bought myself another tank (Thanks, Tomas!) and I just finished it. The plan was to make it look like a tank that had seen some time in harsh conditions, but with no damage to the chassis or turret beyond a little rust, dust and grime. I tried to incorporate some debris that might have been found on the tank after ripping through the brush. I hope I didn't go overboard with the weathering, because it will surely get some more at the TAA battle that is planned for this Sunday! [;)] It actually looks a little better in person, but even though I added the words on the turret from a picture that I found on the Internet, it turns out that the spelling is wrong. [:o] It is supposed to read 'Motherland', I think. I'll have to remove and replace the letters as soon as I get the correction......don't want to look like an illiterate tank commander. [;)] Jason

Eeeeewwwwww. Well, I guess he did not have a very good experience with his buggy. Maybe is was a 'Friday' car. [:)] I have to disagree since I'm impressed with mine, but I certainly won't tell everyone to go out and buy one because I might have the only good one. Who knows. All I can say is that several of my friends work at the local hobby shop and we all drive together on a backyard track. At least a couple of them are buying one based on what they've seen with mine.

RE: XTM Rail?
I bought the Rail on a whim when I saw it in the LHS and was pretty surprised when I got it out on the track. I have an RC8e and an SC8e, so that is what I can compare it to and it performs better than both, IMO. The Rail is heavy and planted like the SC8, but jumps like an RC8. Both of my Associated trucks push in 180 degree corners, but the XTM doesn't seem to, for whatever reason. I changed wheels/tires to M3 on dish, dropped two teeth on the pinion (14 to 12) and I'm trying different shock oils. Other than that, the buggy looks cool, drives well and runs like a scalded dog. [:D] The motor is like 2370kv I think.

RE: 1:6 Dragon Jeep Conversion
The steering wheel on this Jeep will turn with the front wheels, with G.I. Joe's hand and arm pulled along with it. The good thing about this scale is that the driver's body is big enough to hold a small servo. This guy's head will turn with the wheels and steering wheel. I certainly don't claim the idea as my own, but I had to figure it out for myself, so that has to count for something. [;)] http://s601.photobucket.com/albums/tt96/icecreamslick/Dragon%20Jeep%20Conversion/?action=view&current=SteeringtheHead.mp4 I fumbled through this and didn't take any pictures of the tedious trial and error process. I did make a simple document to show how I did it, in case anyone else wants to try the same thing. It isn't great, but you get the idea. [:D]

RE: 1:6 Dragon Jeep Conversion
Thanks you guys. The leaf springs are going to work out pretty well, but the plastic frame rails are probably not. I'll have to try to make my own out of metal. This model has no bottom in the engine bay so I'll have to go to the hobby shop and get some plastic card to make my own. In the mean time, my axle extensions came in (gotta love fast shipping!) and they will help a lot with the footprint of the truck and turning radius.

RE: 1:6 Dragon Jeep Conversion
I was worried about finding shocks that were the right length so that I would not have to cut into the body, but I happened to have a set that I used on a Tamiya CC01, which work well with the leaf springs. I know that I will not have great articulation with this set-up, but I want it to be more of a runner rather than an actual rock crawler. Again, I used nuts in the frame when I mounted the shocks, to take up the space.

RE: 1:6 Dragon Jeep Conversion
The axles center well and I don't have to figure out a four link suspension. Yay! These are the wheels and tires from my AX10. They are a good fit, but the axles are not wide enough for the front wheels to turn, so I ordered some Hot Racing extensions. When they arrive, I should be able to actually turn this puppy, but until then.....

1:6 Dragon Jeep Conversion
Today, I started one of the popular 1:6 Willy's Jeep conversions. I began with a Dragon model and have been using whatever I have on hand to make it into an RC. Killer transfer case is on the frame. I used screws in key places to give the frame some strength. The leaf springs are part of a 1:10 scale conversion that I originally bought for my Axial AX10, but they fit so nicely on this model that I had to use them. Since the frame rails are split in the middle, I filled the gaps with nuts so that I could tighten everything down without breaking the plastic. Even though this frame is wider than the 1:10 chassis that they came with, I was able to change the axle mounting configuration so that everything still lines up with the holes in the top of the axles.

RE: financially challenged
I had a bone-stock LMC a couple of years ago and it was okay. I never made any mods to mine, but if I were you I would start by moving the electronics and battery to the axles and/or 3 link to reduce 'sprung' weight. You can cut the tire foams to star shapes, add sick-on lead weights (super cheap) to the wheels, try removing the springs from the shocks, flip the transmission around etc.
