RE: PICS OF YOUR AIRBOATS
Just found this thread whlst looking for some Hovercraft pictures, and have spent a little bit of time admiring the models. However, although I don't know anything about Airboats as I'm generally into R/C Aeros, I did noticed that a couple had the fuel tanks fitted 'backwards', i.e. With the filler at the back (and presumably) the klunk at the front. Therefore, I wondered if this was correct and, if so, what kind of fueling set-up was installed in the fuel-tanks to overcome starvation when the fuel surges rearwards during acceleration?

RE: 1/6 Scale A6M5 Zero Cockpit
I just found this thread and was reminded of a particularly unpleaseant experience that I had with Ebay member olcrow51. I bought a couple of IMP cockpit kits and some Stuka wheel pants from the guy. On his adverts he advised that some modelling experience is required which wasn't a problem. He did forget to mention that this experience required you to throw the parts he sent away and scratch build replacements as the parts he sent would be unusable rubbish. The wheel pants were twisted about 3/4" out of line and looked like they had been glassed in the dark and the cockpit kits had coloured fiberglass parts that looked like half-chewed and spat-out candy sweets. Oh yeah, and no refunds - but "you can always ask the orient to make the parts for you!" What is interesting though, is that the guy continued to correspond with me whilst I was waiting for my parts to arrive as I had recognised his name from a website dedicated to Hawker Tempest models (http://www.hawkertempest.se/rcmodel.htm). During this period he told me that he occasionally acted as a 'consultant' to IMP Scale, and also I learned that he had access to two Ebay accounts - olcrow51 and pilot312 in Ocala Fl 34442. It therefore comes as no surprise to see that IMP Scale or Innovative Model Products address is also, Fl 34442, USA. The point I want to make though, especially regarding the legal threats that had occured in this thread, is that the guy I dealt with on Ebay was Greg Namey - You can draw your own conclusions! I shall look forward to hearing from you Greg and your innovative legal team...

RE: DeHavilland Mosquito
Hi, if anyone is interested, Dave Brown at davidhvs@aol.com can make ally spinners for pretty much anything you want, including Mosquito spinners in 3 different scales and they are the 'machined from a solid block' type, not the mass produced spun versions. Mine were one of the first Mosquito sets he made (last year) and the front 'dome' is attached to the backplate with 4 small screws, but I think he does them now with a central fixing as standard, although as he makes to order you can specify what you want. Fortunately he is a modeller (currently building a 12ft DC-3) so he will know what you want and are referring to. The spinners for the Mossie are between £50 and £60 a pair. Dave is based just outside Burton-on-Trent, U.K. Just in case anyone doesn't know yet, J.Perkins Distribution are now the distributor for the CMpro models in the U.K. and their website also shows their current stock situation of models and spares. I got a spare pair of cowls to play with and am hoping to alter them and fit sets of exhaust stacks. Andy

RE: DeHavilland Mosquito
Hi Guys (and gals) First, is a picture of the Mosquito Spinners that I referred to ages ago in post #211 (I think). Unfortunately, due to circumstances, my Mossie is still a dust-collector and so the Spinners are merely 'ornaments' but I am hoping that will change shortly. I have bought a pair of 0S 46 AX's and have been thinking about the mufflers. I would like to fit Pitts style to keep it neat, but wondered what state the undercarriage bay will get into. If I fitted silicon extenders, it would probably look messier than using the standard muffler. Has anyone done this please, and if so what are your findings? Finally, does anyone have a spare cowl in fairly good condition please? I have spoken to a company who can probably reproduce them, but in order to do this I need to lay my hands on one as a pattern. The cowl would need to be 'sacrificed' which is why I've asked if anyone has a SPARE. I have also thought about the possibility of getting the reproduction made about 1/4" longer to help the 4-strokers and move the 2-strokers a bit further forward. Andy

RE: Where can I have a custom spinner made?
Hi Guys, I've been having a problem finding a scale looking spinner for my Flair/CMPro Mosquito. Incredibly the answer was on my own doorstep - well about 15 miles from my doorstep to be precise. I have found a guy, who apart from being a superb modeller (currently building a 12ft DC-3), has his own CNC business and specialises in these kind of projects. I provided him with a pattern based on the spinner profile from the 81" Brian Taylor Mosquito plans last weekend, and he has already done the programming and turned me a pair of scale spinners. The cut-outs for the props have still to be made because I haven't decided whether to use 2 or 3 bladed props yet, but already someone has ordered a pair from seeing mine in his factory! He can make spinners for virtually any model aircraft, and it would help if you could provide the pattern. His name is Dave Brown and his email is davidhvs@aol.com - I hope this helps some of you out, and I will post pictures as soon as I can, Andy

RE: DeHavilland Mosquito
Hi Guys, I bought my (Flair) Mossie a couple of months ago, and have so far resisted the urge to even remove the wrapping. I have been watching the banter and learning from your experiences as I determine my options and gather together all my bits and pieces. I am going to use a pair of side-mounted 46AX's and am thinking about pitts mufflers, but not sure about a 2 or 3 bladed prop. I had decided that I was going to have twin-leg landing gear before I found this site and am going to go mechanical for simplicity, but am wondering whether to go for a heavy-duty single leg wire, but painted matt black, with scale-looking plastic dummy-legs attached, or to go the 'ally' route of Lozza, DH71, Gavin etc. The first option keeps things simple and possibly lighter, but I do like the look of the models with the aluminum set-ups. Opinions appreciated. I'm also thinking about landing lights and nav lights. Has anyone done this please? I'm hopefully going to conceal the elevator control horns, and having read all the concerns about tail-heaviness, I have thought about scratch-building lighter tail surfaces, but as I said they are still sealed in the wraping so until I am ready to get started I don't know if I can make much difference. I am going to get a new front blister vac-formed as I'm certain that this one is the wrong shape, and I've got a Brian Taylor version to use as a pattern. I'll keep you posted. The one thing that I have done though, and may be of interest to a few of you who are lucky enough to have finished your models, is to contact a guy who apart from being a superb modeller (currently building a 12ft DC-3) has his own CNC business. I provided him with a pattern from the 81" Brian Taylor plans last weekend and he has already done the programming and turned me a pair of scale spinners. The cut-outs for the props have still to be made, but already someone has ordered a pair from seeing mine in his factory! He will make spinners for any model aircraft to as long as you can provide the pattern. His name is Dave Brown and his email is davidhvs@aol.com - I will post pictures as soon as I can
