RE: Airtronics Aquila 99
Thanks again for the clarification. Finally got an Aquila off eBay for less than what they usually go for. Looked complete in the picture. Can't wait to get it and start building. Off to Google I go!

RE: Good gliders
Learned on a SIG Riser. Easy to build, inexpensive, and easy to fly. Very straightforward.

RE: How do we get the word out?
The young man may have been a bit intimidated, or put off as to a list of things he is suddenly expected to do before he can fly. Was he told there were advantages to joining the AMA (insurance, etc.)? Or was he told "this is what you need to do? I'm not criticising here, just bringing up some questions. My initial experience with a club when I first started in this hobby in the 80's was not good, and I ended up learning how to fly myself in a school field also. I eventually had to find another field as another inconsiderate flyer buzzed houses near the school causing complaints and the school prohibiting flying thereafter from the school's field (but yes I did join the AMA). KaP2011, did you explain the benefits of the AMA as well as how we fly and where affects other flyers? If you did, great, then it was up to the young man to decide what he needed to do, if anything.

RE: Home Brew After-Run Oil
I used Marvel Mystery Oil on an OS FP .40 in the mid 80's. Just getting back into the hobby, found the engine, and it still has compression and turns easily! Guess I'll find out for sure if MMO works when I start it up.

Just to clarify, mAH is for milliamp Hours, or thousandths, not millionths, which is why you divide by 1000.

RE: Gas RC was a mistake !!!!
Yearning to Fly, just go for it. I learned in the early 80's by myself after weeks of a (bad) instructor flying my plane for minutes, allowing me only seconds. No offense you all you instructors out there, just got a bad one. No criticism except for "No, not like that", followed by 2-3 minutes of him flying in circles w/my plane. So I took my Eagle 63 out to a deserted school field, took off and gently climbed until I was (what I estimated) was 2 mistakes high. Gentle turn w/no rudder, and kept flying in circles. Lowered the throttle and let the plane land itself (kept the nose level, then cut it about a foot off the ground. Did that a few times, then added rudder. Baby steps. Yes, I was lucky. Definately see if you can find someone you can develop a student / instructor relationship, that is definately the way to go. If not, be safe, find a deserted field, and take it slow. Good luck! Let us know how you make out!

RE: ARF's ruined my hobby
Part of the fun of the hobby for me is the building. Even if the plane isn't "perfect", it is something I built. I "crafted" the plane (with help from the kit manufacturer) and part of my pleasure is to see something of mine flying. Yes I have an ARF glider, but that was purchased last year to get me back in the air after 20+ years of inactivity (can I really be that old????). The ARF works for the reason it was purchased... to get me out and flying until I finish my present kit. I get much more satisfaction putting in the air something I built. KEEP TRYING!! It IS worth it!!

Hi, I just picked up a simple Ultimate Bipe from an estate. It has the instructions for the foam wings but no construction instructions for the fuse and final assembly. Can anyone help me out with a copy? My e-mail address is TSupportEngineer@aol.com. Thanks!

Skylark-Flier, how did you figure the placement of the main gear on the fuselage relative to the center of gravity, or was it just trial and error?

OK, great. The fuse on the ARF is fiberglass, no carbon fiber. Thanks for your help, BMatthews!

Fiberglass fuselages and 2.4 GHz radios
Although I love to build, my spare time is quite short, so I bought an ARF Bird of Time. I have heard that fiberglass fuselages block 2.4 GHz signals. Just want to know if anybody knows more about this, as my main radio is a Futaba 2.4GHz 6EX. The fiberglas on the BOT is quite thin, but before I hit the high start, I would like more information. Thanks in advance!

Too bad the review was not written, it should have been. Too many times things like this happen and until pressure is put on the manufacturers (no sales) the problem won't be fixed.

RE: ARF's are Kits?
I am returning to the hobby after 20 years and am appalled at the lack of kits available compared to what was in my old Tower Hobbies catalogue. Most people getting into the hobby initially just want to fly and ARFs provide that route. Since they have never built from scratch or a kit, their appreciation for creating something that does (hopefully) fly is not anywhere near what we builders experience. To be truthful I purchased a Bird of Time ARF just so I could get out and fly. The Monokote job on thecenter wing panel is terrible. I did a better job on my first glider, a SIG Riser, 20 years ago. Last ARF for me. I have an Antares and Windfree kit that hopefully will be done before July. Give these guys a break. After losing their ARF maybe they will try a real kit.
