RE: Hpi's New Gas engine
Well, It's September now and this was due to be released in March this year. I have not seen or heard of anyone who has seen or heard one themselves. Not even my local HPI stockist has them in either. So, what's the deal here then? Have any been released in Europe or the UK more specifically. Even a youtube video of one in action yet? Pretty anti climax going on here IMO Sorry to Rant but I am a bit tired of waiting for this now.
ORIGINAL: Lars from Norway Yep, this is very actual for using in that car when the time comes for it :) But maybe to be modified a bit. Where did you dig up this thread from by the way? I thought i was the only one keeping it in mind[:D]
Haha, I am always reading bits here and there matey. I think I may abandon the Toro idea and just go with side winder belt drive like the Stock cars as it seems so much easier and less costly for experimentation etc. I am eager to see how you get the Escort going though so keep us all updated ok. ;-)
ORIGINAL: Lars from Norway Here are some pics from todays work.On the gearhousing the mountingholes have the same distance from the center making it easy to turn and making the axel turn in opposite direction, handy if i am going to use chain and sprockets,or gears.Or if i am going to turn the engine 90 degrees and "lay it down". Ive made a few enquiries with the London 2012 Olympic Commitee to find that they don't own them and that they belong to ***, I am now in contact with their *******Team who should be able to tell me what they'll be doing with them. I'll keep you all posted, there were 40 odd, so I am hoping that they'll be happy to sell one to a member of the public: .i.e ME Keen to see the set up as it carries 8KG and lasts pretty long on a single charge. I do think that this bit of public dislplay, may even bring some significant interenst back into the 1:4 arena. Just FYI, I had to make many many calls to get to this stage with tons of hold music playing in my ears. Do I get a high five lol?

Hi Lars, Thanks, that does make sense but it's a pitty as the thread is now pretty much just up to imagination really without the images. I am dropping the toro box idea on my build and going belt just like the Pro 1 sprint cars now. I wanted to use the images here for some inspriation. I can find them on another site I supose. I say that a sub forum would be appropriete and atleast specific to what the threads about. I too simply love the homebuilds but most importantly enjoy the actual construction/fabrication in the shed but will get round to updating the journal etc. What ever is decided, it's cool. As long as the information is readily available and it get's well used by all who are specific to that thread. It may even encourage many who've built something, to actually show us all on here, regardless of the actual size. I voted BTW - New software update ey? That'll be nice to see fresh skins and layout soon. Keep them coming in chaps, Remember impossible is just an opinion

Hello, I got nailed £80 for one Toro but it did have to come from Mexico. Still wonder if anyone has been able to shim the gears to mesh better. I am building a truck with one at the moment but do need to figure out how to ensure the gears don't blow out. Drew something on here has succeded in doing so. Have you made anything with the Toro's since this post Bob? Glenn.

RE: New 1:4 RWD Pick Up
ok buddy. Still didn't get the axle bearing housing yesterday. I'll be cutting the propshaft to the toro and install two universal joints there to allow for the movement. Doing the calculation last night with a colleague we arrived at 70MPH? Very surprising indeed. The grinder head will be fixed when I am happy with the postioning along with the engine etc. Nothing is actually bolted down yet. The 4 link is all held to the chassis with cable ties. Moving a bit slow now due to poor delivery from the engineering store online.

RE: New 1:4 RWD Pick Up
Oops Had to emend typo error. This is correct now, sorry. The motor has the small pulley 12T and the large one on the baby grinder 52T (these are from my wifes old Singer sewing machine BTW) The grinder head gearing is 32T to 13T and the Toro is 12T to 37T The So the formula is: 52 / 12 = 4.3 37 / 13 = 2.8 4.3 x 2.8 = 12.04 Where do I factor in the Toro gearing then? DO I multiply that with the previous two? Now the tyres are 9x3.50x4 so how do I now proceed to get the final again?

RE: New 1:4 RWD Pick Up
OK So here we have some figures, I am running these by those subscribed to ensure that I have done this correctly. The motor has the small pulley 12T and the large one on the baby grinder 52T (these are from my wifes old Singer sewing machine BTW) The grinder head gearing is 32T to 13T and the Toro is 12T to 37T So the formula is: 52 / 12 = 4.3 32 / 13 = 2.4 4.3 x 2.4 = 10.32 Now the tyres are 9x3.50x4 so how do I now proceed to get the final again?

RE: New 1:4 RWD Pick Up
Hey chaps, Just adding some additional pictures of the mock up for the gearing ratio. I am still in two minds on this but shall be doing my mathematic calculations as advised. The front pulley on the motor has 12 T and the drive pulley on the grinder head to the toro has 52 T. I have not yet counted the teeth on the grinder head but as it stands now, if I rotate it once, then the output to the toro does like 5 turns I think and have to yet count the ones on the toro. From my rough calc I guess about 15 - 20 MPH but need to crunch some numbers really and not actually just guess I know. Here are some additional pics and I was promised that the bearing carriers would be here today.

RE: New 1:4 RWD Pick Up
Thanks Mudgy, That looks like a good site. I have actually found some over in Honk Kong for 16GBP so I am taking my chances on them. Bit of a tight budget I/m afraid. I ordered some used BRP wheels from America, Calorado and am really pleased. I am just missing one wheel half in 1" I think, but will see what's what when I get them. Got the rose joints but the bearing carrier for the axle is due today and can finally start suspending the rear off the chassis and work out lenght for the drive shaft and then bolt down the motor and the baby grinder head etc. I have thought that I may bend the rear of the chassis like a wheel arch over the rear wheels for scale and also have a fix point for the shocks. Moving slowly but made some progress on my sons 1/10 scale baja. I'll upload more pictures and show you chaps the progress.

RE: New 1:4 RWD Pick Up
DVP, I have been thinking about the gearing as you'd imagine and it's difficult to explain in text but, as I have an input shaft going to my rear end and not a sprocket as in your diagram. My Toro box is reduced as you say. Now the grinder in the reverse position as I mocked up there in the picture, should now output like 6 times for each input rotation, Now where I can work out from the forumla you gave me, I can play around with the gearing between the atcual motor power output and the grinder large side. I did it this way as it should ensure that the RPM to the toro will be multiplied. I can see what you are saying with the count of teeth and pulley/chain etc. Do you see how I am looking at it or I completley lost the plot. The tires are 9" so I do need all the final RPM down there and I did think that I had it all worked out. I've ordered the rose joints for the 4 link rear suspension and the bearing blocks for securing the axle too. Next is the constant veloscity joints for the propshaft to the artifical diff. Still not sure about the front. I may go with standard front or look out for an FG belt drive diff as that will be easy to install on the front with existing belt drive to the rear via baby grinder head. So, please do step in if you have spotted something that I may have missed. I am wide open to any critism chaps.

RE: New 1:4 RWD Pick Up
Hey DVP, What time is is over there at the moment? It must be late. Are you tinkering in the shed. I will take your advice and turn the aby grinder head around and mock it all up again. I have to start making up brackets to attach everything and now I am glad that I haven't already done so yet. I'd like to take my time, so is to not have to cut off brackets etc. I will update you on my next steps. I am trying to get a vintage NItro buggy up n running for my son on electric too. So it's taking some time to do that properly, I chose the vintage nitro 1;10 scale buggy as they were built really really well and shoudlnt' brake too easily with him piloting - he is only 2 and a half. Good to have input from you chaps. Love it!

Last night I found out that my neighbour works at a precision engineering firm fabricating aircraft components. I showed him my RACO 2 piece rims and the hubs. He said that he will make these up for me out of some lightweight aircraft grade alloy. These are going to bolt onto my live axle and boy I am excited that he is going to help. If I get these then, I can go on with the rest of the project.

New 1:4 RWD Pick Up
Hey you guys > in traditional goonies fashion. I have started a new home/shed build with a 1:4 scale pick up truck with tubular chassis and solid rear axle. It's not up to the high level of some of my fellow home builds found but I am going ahead with it anyways. I will be suspending the rear axle with these http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/Housings+&+Inserts-Housings/c16_17/p22802/SBPFL201-8+Oval+2+Bolt+Pressed+Steel+Bearing+Housing+with+1/2+inch+insert/product_info.html on each end of the 12.7mm axle(a toro lawnmower drive) and 4 link suspension. The front will either be wishbone or perhaps even torsion set up. Not too sure yet. I may go with FG monster truck tyres unless I can source some BRP wheels and fit petrol scooter 9x3.50x4 tyres on. So far I only have 2 pictures and certainly do welcome all constructive critisism. I would like to ensure that the CG and ratios etc are all fairly well worked out to ensure this truck flings loads of dust in the air!! Thanks for looking chaps, I welcome all the usual suspects to input where applicable, DVP, JARIV and all the other DIY chaps that I love following build progress on. And also those who I can't recall now too.
