RE: Futaba 12z Great planes Pitts 1/3 Scale
I used the 4 aileron 2 flap option for my biplane, it works perfectly with 4 servos for ailerons connected directly to the receiver (no "Y"'s, splitters, matchboxes, blackmagics, etc) Tailerons in the elevators allow for 2 separate servos in the elevators also connected directly to the Rx. You can control direction, speed, throws, etc individually to each servo and the trims works as they are supposed to....

RE: futaba Wireless trainer system WTR-7 with a 9ZAP
Just plug the WR7 in the 12Z, power the radio up but don't allow it to transmit (throttle stick up or RF off after the Tx boots up) The WR7 will receive power from the Teacher radio, then turn on the 9Z (Student) and push the bind button. It will bind to the student Tx correctly. I have the same combo....

RE: JR XG8 Flight modes?
I've been living in Asia since a couple of years, I guess I have to update RCU. Still playing with the radio, it seems that FM is only a switch you can assign to different functions (DR, Expo, Mixes, Flap System, etc) and have all the changes actuated by a single control. In addition you can setup independent trims for each Flight Mode. But it is not like Futaba where you have a complete set

JR XG8 Flight modes?
I am a long time Futaba user. I currently fly a 14MZ, upgraded from a 12Z and I keep my old trusty 9Z as a backup. My wife just gave me JR XG8 for my birthday which I plan to use for DLG gliders. I need some information about the fly modes in this radio (should be the same as other JR radios?) Conditions in the Futaba high range are very easy to understand, they are just like an almost complete setup (except some common features for the plane such as servo reverse that should stay the same in every condition) that you can call up at any time. Then there are complete sets of DR's, EXP, trims, mixes, etc in each condition. But this JR radio seems to follow a complete different logic. The manual is not very good at explaining the flight modes. It seems you can assign DR to the flight mode switch instead of the DR switch. But then if you set up 3 different modes in the airplane mode, then you just have one DR in each flight mode (total of 3 for the plane, instead of the 9 that a Futaba system would have - i.e. 3 independent DR's in each Condition) Does anybody have a good explanation of how to work with flight modes in the JR XG8? What are the parameters/functions that can be included with each FLight Mode? Some programming example for motor aircraft would be great! Thanks in advance

RE: More 6008HS - Problem found!!!
It wasn't the Rx but the battery. It seems the 5 cell 1600 Mah NiMh pack cannot copy with the consumption of all six S9651 servos plus the S3305. Problem went away when I replaced it with a fresh 7.4v 2200 Mah lipo (through a Castle 10 amp voltage regulator) Thanks for your great support! I am very happy again with my old trusty Futaba 12Z!!!

More 6008HS - Problem found!!!
I just changed the "problematic" 6008 receiver for a brand new one fresh from LHS. The first fly was OK, Rx linked just fine. But the problems returned on the second flight. Rudder goes full right step by step. Each step seems to follow the flashing of both red and green led's in the Rx. Airplane is a biplane, 4x9651 in ailerons, 2x9651 for elevator, 1x3305 for rudder, CC85HV ESC. I've been flying the airplane with exactly the same equipment for approximately 1.5 years with no issues whatsoever. When the airplane fully assembled and all servos connected the problems seems to be worse (i.e. it would never link) What is the meaning of the flashing led's? Could it be low voltage to the Rx?

RE: More 6008HS - Problem found!!!
Definitely very strange behavior: * Two different receivers, same problems * Only happens if the Tx is on, turning the Rx on without Tx signal or switching off the Tx will stop the servo movement (red led on!) * Rx are in low speed mode * All 7 servos must be connected to the airplane to make the problem happen (when I removed the lower wing to check the Rx I could not replicate the problem, wing back on and servos connected and voila, here it comes again) * Turn on Tx, then Rx and it will start to move the the rudder step by step, both leds (red and green) flashing at the same time, one elevator up, the other down * Sometimes the Rx will turn on normally and keep control of the plane. Only one time I could regain control after the problem appeared * The airplane was working perfectly until last weekend. I've been flying it with the same exact equipment for more than 1.5 years... It is now on my backup 12z, next weekend will try with my main 14MZ and see what happens....

Not alternating, they blinked at the same time! Rudder servo moved to the right one step every blink. I was alone at the field the first time it happened last saturday, a couple more fliers later all of them on Futaba 10C

Strange behavior - Rx 6008HS
I am experiencing random problems with a 1 year old 6008HS Rx. Sometimes when I turn it on it does not link to the radio (12Z) and the rudder starts slowly (step by step) move to the left side. The Rx was working perfectly until last week. I was by myself at the flying field. I disassembled the airplane and couldn't replicate the problem, but it happen several times at the field (one out of 3-5 times it would bind and work properly, but when I switch it off and on again it would not link to the Tx!) Didn't change anything in the airplane (nor batteries, servos, ESC, etc) Any clue?

RE: Futaba 18MZ ???
9Z WCII with Futaba TM-8 here. Flawless so far. I used Futaba 6106, 608 and 6008 Rx's, and now FrSky "clones". The only thing I can complain is the need to use a switch to change between 7 and 8 channel modes (6106 Rx is a 7ch mode unit) Not a big problem but my 12Z changes through the software when you select the corresponding model.

RE: Telemetry in F3A
No mix, exp, or computer is an illusion considering the current schedules P11 and F11. There is no way to consistently and smoothly fly a plane through the wild range of maneuvers required.

RE: Telemetry in F3A
Actually the Prog.Mixes, Mode "Offset", the parameters "Offset ON", "Offset OFF", "Speed IN", and "Speed OUT", "Delay START", and "Delay STOP" can manage changes in the surface mixed (up to four) at certain times after the mix is activated or deactivated. Pretty cool. Doesn't work too well with slow maneuvers (such as slow rolls) because variation in speed of the plane or weather (wind) conditions. But for snap rolls, it is the best inventions since flight conditions (illegal though!) Speed IN and OUT basically controls the velocity of the surface to reach the selected Offset point. Max (slower) is 27. Delay START and STOP controls the time between you hit the switch and the surface reacts to move to the selected offset point. For example, if you select Offset on 20%, Speed in 27, and Delay start 3s, the radio will wait 3 seconds after you hit the switch selected to activate the mix, and then slowly move the surface to 20% more than the current position. If you are still flying glow (YS), there is a pretty neat trick I use to start the engine with a regular glow plug ignitor. I programmed a 20% offset to the throttle, with 3s Delay OUT, linked to Switch F (momentary switch) So, get everything ready to start, hit the switch, put the ignitor, and apply the electric starter. 3 seconds later the carb will open to low idle and the engine should start with no backfire!

RE: Telemetry in F3A
A timed offset mix for example. You can program the momentary switch to do snap rolls. Then a timed offset mix triggered by the same switch to stop the snap roll exactly X.XX seconds after you hit the switch. Some tinkering with time and offset % and you just pull the trigger to perform perfect 1 1/2 snap rolls, just release the switch after the plane stops. You could do this for other maneuvers, but the snap roll is so fast that it will not allow to get speed or wind into consideration....

Struggling with OS55GT
Well after some days of tinkering I guess it is time to ask for help. My OS55GT has approximately one gallon of gas through. The original CDI gave up the ghost after a couple of tanks and it has been in Japan for guarantee since then. I installed a DLE55 ignition I had lying around but I have been struggling with transition. Idle is good, top speed also. But any intention to transition through mid range makes the engine "hunt" rpms down. If I persist with throttle it would struggle up and down 4 to 6 times until finally settle at high speed. The transition will be OK if I keep the throttle up, but any intention to fly more than a couple of seconds at 1/4 throttle or lower will welcome a new struggle in mid throttle. I tried to tweak the lo speed needle, but if I richen it then it would load up and not accelerate up until it clears (i.e. rich mid throttle for a couple of seconds even with the throttle stick all way up) If I close the l-s needle a little bit the engine would not start. I didn't touch the hall sensor from the original position. Any ideas?

I don't think the current breed of 2.4gHz radios actually have a DSC port. I am keeping the charge port because my F3A plane does not have a removable canopy but the battery is loaded through the chin cowl and I don't have access to the radio bay.

CC Phoenix 85HV brake settings for AXI 5325 or 5330?
I am looking for some advice regarding the brake settings for this ESC-motor combination. With Axi 5325 I am using brake force at 40%. If I leave the throttle stick a little more than full down the motor spools up in vertical lines down. If I pull the stick all the way down it seems to keep constant RPM but the moment I advance the throttle in level flight the motor makes strange noise about 1/4 stick. It is not screeching. It sounds more like a loud gearbox sound for 1 or 2 seconds until it picks up speed. Any idea of what could be the problem? Is there any way to keep a constant low idle speed?

Next step is to hack a Assan 2.4G DIY module into it and have my son's trainer ready.
