Great job on the minor surgery or I imagine to me it would have been major surgery to relocate the gear. I was looking at the pics and I can't really determine where they were. Did a good job of finishing! Looks good.

Warbirdbuilder, nice 109. What retracts do you have in there? Kahlog, I thought Ty did an He-111 awhile ago or maybe that was a Ju-88? I know I have seen one on here before.

Hi Jim, I got the same one and have been looking for another one since. Havent seen hide nor hair of it on ebay. Great flying plane! Looks pretty good on the runway too. Mine did not come with a manual. I put a Saito 150 in it and it screams.

RE: How did you come to love Warbirds?
Growing up listening to Dad tell us stories of his P-47 flying days, watching his gun camera films on Sunday nights after Disney. He had my brother and me build plastic models of the current aircraft he was working with in the Defense industry. Since the models were to be used in presentations we had to build em right and good looking. No glue streaks! I remember building a jet that I had never seen to find out it was to be the A-6 for the Navy. One bomber I built was just too cool. It was something called an XB-70. Never seen anything like it at the time. My brother Stephen built the display of the B-58 Hustler. My Dad nicknamed my little brother Hustler, his name was Russell. This brought back some old memories. Sorry for rambling. Of course there were the many obligatory P-47's in the house! My love for warbirds and rc got me sent to Iraq to fly UAV's. Interesting experience.

RE: NWHT (now Jack Devine) Corsair
They come with a video. I have the video for the corsair. I will have to look for it and see what it says. I never got around to building it. My Corsair is the smaller one but the video was for the large Corsair.

RE: My old YA P-47 Build
Gremlin, it is good to hear and see that your 47 is back in operation after an unfortunate dead stick. I have the same plane. I bought it from a friend. It weighs 30 pounds and has a 70 cc in it. It flies well but of course landings are a little faster than the average 47. I think it weighs so miuch because he had theplane painted professionally with automotive paint and of course the larger engine.

I had a similar cracked exhaust except it was where the pipes come out of the box, a friend of mine welded it for me. I dont know much about aluminum welding but it id doable.

yup it was a birddog front to back seating. the movie used a stearman, if you get the movie called Night Fighters, that is the more factual story about the Tuskegee Airmen.

RE: Me109 on Ebay
Rich, I know what you mean about burn out. it hit me last summer. I havent touched my 109 since the take off incident, I have it on my list of things to do. I have to repair the wing where it meets the fuse and then fix the front end, got cracked up a bit. I want to use better retracts this time. I have a set of the larger Spring airs with thicker struts. My tail supports long blew off, that was a good idea to put something with more support. I will look into that. Castor Troy, that would be the 50 dollar question., havent been able to locate one of these since 2007. It is a pretty good plane especially for the cost. It is a little larger than the cmp 109 that is on another thread here. It is 78 inches and it is an E model.

Hey Rich, This is an old thread, do you still have your 109? Mine is in the garage tried to take off in a stiff crosswind , didnt get off the ground but it damaged the wings and the gear mounts when she ran off the runway. I havent seen this plane advertised anywhere since back then.

This will be my first Warbirds event. My friend lives in Craig, Co and has been trying to get me to come out for several years. Just never fit the schedule. This year is the one. Looking forward to some fun flying and enjoying everyone's warbirds. I have a couple of P-47's and a Spitfire. Is there camping allowed at the field. Not sure if we will get a hotel or camp out.

RE: Well I just read Dave's article on the new FAA proposals.
I believe he mentioned medical because right now you need a medical certificate to operate a UAV. The step to requiring an RC pilot to hold a medical is not a large one.

RE: Plane names?
My father flew P-47's. His first plane was called THUMPER which is what they called their first son (my oldest brother) because he thumped his foot a lot in the crib. He named his next plane after my mom Virginia, GINNIE. He told me that was the last plane he named as it was shot down while another pilot was flying it. So many P-47's were getting shot up so bad due to the ground attacks that they went thru many planes. He said they flew whichever plane was available.

Hey Mike, good to hear from you! I knew you would be out there somewhere. I got your Christmas card and I put your return envelope with it so I could write you back,,, but you know how holidays can be.. I started looking for it the other day. My wife mentioned she had cleaned out the Christmas stuff... Is life back to normal more or less? I couldnt handle being away anymore. I loved the work and it was pretty cool stuff for a small town dude like me. Havent done much flying this past season. Had a new job and it was taking most of my energy. I am still not used to the cold. I am looking forward to a lot of flying this summer. Alan

RE: Where's YOUR Modeltech P-47?
Looks awesome. I flew mine for several years. NEver had a problem. I originally used an OS 91 4 stroke. Sounded good and flew very well. I needed the engine in another plane so I took it out. Later I put the OS 2 stroke 90 in it. Man it was a rocket. I ended up putting the 4 stroke back in and flew it until about a year ago. I also used Spring air retracts in it as the original mechanicals were pretty flimsy and I find it much easier to install air retracts over mechanicals. ( I am lazy) It left my hanger ina trade some other stuff. I do miss it. Alan
