RE: YS 60FS Tuning Help Needed
ORIGINAL: Jim Johns <span style=''background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);''>Thanks, Pete. I did a complete cleaning, replaced the diaphragm and cleaned up the holes in the carb & regulator gaskets using a sharpened brass tube. I set the regulator flush and she fired right up. Idles like a champ with great transition, too.  Jim
Glad to hear it!! They are great engines!!

RE: MK kits
Ahhh...The prices maybe high but I think sometimes kits like those are "priceless" to some people too...I've paid "too much" for my Aurora kit and it didn't bother me a bit, I didn't even haggle with the guy... [:)] It's all about what it means to the individual...MK and Yoshioka kits are defiantly a "cut above" so you know the quality is there, it's not like your buying junk...I know you guys know that.. There are some kits I would pay those prices if I had the money....I would like to have had the Citation, if I had the money right now I would have paid his price, but I didn't...I'm happy to see it going to a good home where it will be appreciated... [8D] Fortunately there are other alternatives (Don's efforts) that keep these aircraft available for us to enjoy...But there is a mystique about the MK type kits that I doubt will ever go away... [8D] Happy Flying!! Chuck

a gasket set... Here lies the problem!! Gaskets Sets for the YS 60!!...To my knowledge

Gasket Sets for the YS-60...
Hiya... It's been a while but the last time I checked the Gasket Sets for the YS-60 were no longer available...Unless something has changed and YS made some more that leaves us in a pickle...I think they are getting pretty hard to come by via "the-bay" unless someone out there is sitting on a stash... How can we overcome this?? I have one new set that I could have scanned and made into a PDF...Then could you take it to a vinyl shop and use their plotters to cut new gaskets?? Then what material would you use for the gaskets?? The originals are a paper type of gasket materiel which I always wind up tearing up when I take the engines apart... [:@] I remember hearing about "Leak Proof" gaskets for YS engines...I assume they were an aftermarket gasket set made by a third party but am not sure and never saw any of them...Does anyone have any experience with those?? If so, what material were they made of?? Ideas?? Chuck

RE: YS 60FS Tuning Help Needed
Part of my personal "SOP" on a newly acquired engine is to go through it and just replace all the silicone stuff (diaphragm, carb o-rings ect...)...It may not always be necessary but I do it for my own piece of mind...From that point on **No petroleum based products** as they will wreak havoc on the silicone stuff...I think your a YS guy so you knew that already... [;)] Regulator screw flush with the housing and I try to forget about it...I consider it the last option strive not to touch it...If I do it's 1/16 or 1/8 turn at a time to smooth out the transition... If it pauses or hesitates when advancing the throttle that's an indication it's too lean...If it stumbles/gurggles/burbles then it's rich... If your going through glo plugs is an indication it's too lean as well... I have always used the OS#8 plug and Powermaster YS 20/20 fuel.. Have Fun... Chuck.
ORIGINAL: NM2K To be honest with you, the YS .45 two-stroke and the .63 to .70 four-strokes would be my choices. Especially the four-strokes. I didn't see the Aurora 45 listed in the post above...They are suppose to fly just like the 60 size airplane (or so I've been told)... I have an Aurora 45 kit and it has provisions for both rear exhaust and side exhaust engine options...I would personally prefer RE but if a fellow just cant find an engine there is the option for side exhaust... I'm sitting here comparing the Atlanta, Cosmos/Aurora and Dash Five headers...Yes, there are some subtle differences but I think any of them would work as they are all pretty close...Sadly... which may help if you talk to Singapore Hobbies or Hatori USA: #724 = Atlanta header for OS61RF #730... on the Atlanta!!! RE: looking for Atlanta Header for Os 61
You should be able to use a Macs "Left Hook" header without too much trouble. They are available from the "Special Applications" section of their website: http://www.macspro.com/specialapp.asp (scroll down to the bottom of the page) You can try Hatori USA...I spoke with him a couple of years ago and he said he had some stuff laying around...but again that was two (or more) years ago... RE: Taking Orders For Hanno Piston/Liner Sets
ORIGINAL: bjr_93tz The pump on my Hanno's biting the dust now. I pulled it apart a smeared a bit of silicone over the cracks in the diaphram and it still runs fine with less fuel drippingout the tell-tale but it's on borrowed time [:o] Can't blame it though, nearly 20 years for a pump diapham in ANYTHING isn't a bad run...
So...I've wondered if the PD-06 pump assy which is off the OS 140RX would work?? Wonder if it's a viable substitute?? I almost bought one to check it out but never did ($159)... Link: [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBZ59]PD-06[/link] Then there is the PD-08 pump off the Surpass which might be worth investigating...In one of the photos below you can see the PD-08 being used for another (2 stroke??) application with a neat little CF mounting thingy...Singapore hobbies sells the carbon fiber mount thing so people must be using that pump for other engines even though it's originally off the OS FS-200S-P Surpass engine... Link: [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXUTN4&P=7]PD-08[/link] It would be nice to see if there is an alternative for the Hanno, it's a shame to retire such a beautiful engine due to a pump quitting.. If I had the spare bucks right now I'd buy a PD-06 and PD-08 just to see... Here are some pics of the pumps I'm referring to...

RE: Mac Products- Be careful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ORIGINAL: NM2K I haven't read anything in this forum thread that supports Mac's Products delivering shoddy products or service. However, many of us have an aversion for people that come on the forum and bad mouth a company BEFORE they have spoken with the company and given them a chance to rectify the situation. Ed Cregger
I have stated my experience in the past: I had two brand spankin' new Mac's headers crack while running engines on the test stand...One lasted about two minutes and the other less than 30 seconds...I called and the dude said for me to send them back and he would either repair or replace them...I elected to toss them in the garbage and buy some Hatori headers instead...I have a box full of Hatori headers (20+)... I'm not bad mouthing Mac's, nor is Pete (in my opinion)...We are passing along our experience for others to use as they see fit... RE: OS .61 RF header question
Sweet Dave!! I like an articulated header for a couple of reasons...Especially when using a soft engine mount I feel it helps dampen the vibration through out the whole pipe system, it's less stress on the header mount which can crack. It makes tuning a lot easier especially if you have some spare header tubing. Last but not least, it really helps with the alignment issues that your facing here... [;)] Here are some photos...You basically just put another cut in the header and add an additional silicone coupler...I'm doing this to all my headers... You can get the coupler tubing from McMaster/Carr and the aluminum from Aircraft Spruce..

RE: OS .61 RF header question
On the Mac's website there is a page listed special application headers, scroll down and you will see the rear exhaust "fuse top" headers. They have .5", 1", 1.5" and the left hook headers listed there. (I think that OS header you got with the Hanno should be about a .5" offset). RE: OS 61SF Idle Problems
ORIGINAL: alaflyer With the ''In'' line hooked to a separate tank and the ''Out'' line that normally runs to the carb into a separate container, the pump will drain that separate tank faster than i can fill it! If that is any indication the pump is probably OK.
Now with the same arrengement above: empty the "out" line so there is no fuel in it...Then turn the prop over by hand one compression stroke at a time...You should see the fuel move in the tube **approxamatley** 1/4" per stroke... Note: it may take a couple of strokes for the pump to prime it's self and get rid of any air ect....After the 4th or 5th compression stroke it should be pretty consistant in "moving" the fuel... Have Fun... Chuck
