RE: I DID IT!!First solo flight, well first flight period
Awesome !!! A club is certainly not required. I crashed within three turns of my first flight with an instructor.at a club. Ran from the club and been soloing CP helicopters on my own ever since.

RE: Question as a new potential member
ORIGINAL: PTERODACTYL Remember this; Flying model airplanes is not a “RIGHT”. It’s a privilege. Don’t ruin it for the rest of us!
Spoken like a true subject. So .gov grants you the priviledge of the lawful pursuit of legal activites not enumerated in the Constitution ? This nation is finished.

RE: How do you teach?
My experience is diametric to JetMech. No club, no instructor, no one but me and my aircraft..........I flew 8 packs yesterday and am charging to go when the sun comes up this morning. I already knew sticking my hand in the prop was dangerous so I was ahead of the curve.

RE: Discussion on the auto stabilation trend....
ORIGINAL: edgeflyer hope I am wrong, but like ABS and traction control etc.... They are problematic (ASE Master certified mechanic) and I worry that it could be hazardous to the well being of our sport.
ABS and traction control have saved far more lives than they have hurt. It is the hotdogs who think they can brake better and have more adept throttle control who bad mouth them. Just like the jet jockey who thinks stabilizations to augment control where seat-of-pants input is absent on a screaming 100 mph jet turbine......they are better than that. Right.

RE: Discussion on the auto stabilation trend....
ORIGINAL: edgeflyer No, not at all, and yes I did expect a post like this. My concern is that it will be non optional equiptment in the near future, But hey some of the guys I really listen to on the board seem to really like it, so maybe I'll have to try it before passing anymore judgement. That was the whole point of this thread to get input. I'm not too concerned about people who are going to try to pick a fight. Thanks to those with open honest opinions.
Yet you label it from the outset as unprofessional crap ?
ORIGINAL: edgeflyer This topic is a little out of place, but since I reguard turbine pilots as generaly the most professional, and best pilots in the industry as a whole I thought it was apropriate here. I also see it affecting our models (turbines) shortly. Is it just me, or is anyone else annoyed by the latest auto pilot crap.
The majority of real jets and helis have some form of auto pilot and fly-by-wire electronic aided control. You're really not very "scale" without it.

RE: Do you remember being a beginner???
Crashed and destroyed my trainer on the first lap. Almost took out the club leadership. Turned from the club and instructor .......taught myself helis. Never looked back. Got a lot of plane crap sitting unused. Being a beginner today is different. YOU CAN DO IT ON YOUR OWN NOW.

RE: Regulation passed the House
ORIGINAL: rgburrill The sad part is that you guys are nitpicking each other to death about who said what to whom and are ignoring the potectially dangerous issue of renegades. The plain a simple fact is that those who put thier "run" above the rules and recommendations of the AMA are jeoparding every other modeler out there.
The rules that apply to the NAS sure. The other non NAS safety / AMA rules: membership, their insurance, not so much.

Simulator. Foamie. Park. Entirely possible to teach yourself now. And you never have to listen to how the instructor taught Chuck Yeager and the perpetual schmeckle measuring contest of the AMA club scene.

RE: Are you a member of a club?
No club or AMA here. I ruined my shot at the club by almost taking out the leadership on my first fixed-wing lap with my trainer. Since then switched to helis ditched the club and not looked back.

RE: Regulation passed the House
ORIGINAL: combatpigg I'm not trying to "hurt" any aspect of model aviation....just trying to be prophetic about what I see as a delivery system that is already too accessible for any Yayhoo with a chip on his shoulder and getting more so as the days go by.
Explain the delivery system and threat......you realize building a bomb is already illegal ? You sound like a Fudd shooter that wants to curtail lawful machine gun ownership because you're a prophet and know that a legal MG is going to be used in a crime and wipe out your right to own a single shot deer rifle.

I'm talking about an attack or series of attacks that effects thousands of innocents....like at stadiums, over open resevoirs, office buildings, school yards, freeways, etc.. Model plane flyers will be more concerned about lynch mobs at that point, than any legal mumbo jumbo. At that point, even NRA advocates would be willing to throw RC models under the bus. This is when Control Line makes it's big comeback in about ohhh.... 2050.
Angry winos slaughtering thousands of innocents at stadiums with $29 Harbor Freight foamies ?
ORIGINAL: 50+AirYears Silent-AV8R, sad, but true. I wonder if the NRA has this kind of opposition among shooters.
Yes the they do. The NRA sucks and turned its back on an entire discipline of lawful shooting and historical collecting to protect the "rights" of other shooting diciplines they support.
