RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
Stu, you need to raise the rear of the wing about 3-5mm and that helps a bit. The Cessna was never designed to do the speeds that a brushless provides. The climbing has something to do with the wing/horizontal stabiliser incidence so I've been told.

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
I've seen plenty of planes with washers to adjust the thrust angle. I'm a little concerned about the 7x5.5 prop on 2S (7.4v) though, on 3S (11.1v) it should be OK, but 7 on 2S may give you thrust close to the Speed 480 motor. I used to use GWS 8x6 HD and even GWS 8x6 SF props on my Cessna with 2S and 3S LiPo's.

RCKiwi, you may find the foam is broken at the base of the windscreen also. I've dont this a couple of time myself, and yes there is not enough down thrust in the side-on pic. Nothing a little more Epoxy won't fix :).
ORIGINAL: RC_Kiwi I got a video and I'll post a link just as soon as I upload it on to youtube (In the next hour or so). Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_JdBGiMFFw
Nice Video RCKiwi, whilst I was watching I was thinking 'From my past experiences with unmovable objects (Ground, trees, buildings??,etc....), I'd fly a fair bit higher'....and then the music changed....

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
NiMH should be discharged to 1.0V/cell so the 0.9V setting is the best. Just 'tin' the wires with solder, use enough heat to make sure the solder has flowed into the center of the strands. Fill the hole in the connector with solder, heat connector and tinned wire until solder melts and push together. The end result should be shiny, otherwise add a bit more solder. Just one other thing....try not to burn yourself.

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
Your better off using epoxy (Araldite) as you need to be careful some glues melt the foam. I used to use 5min, but now I just use the max strength one.

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
I cut the thin sections out to ease the load on the Servo's, but there is a train of thought that suggests leaving them to stop air spilling through the gaps. Gravity, ABC and I were there, where were you??

If you can get the shaft out its better to straighten it it a vise. Saying that, at the park I just use pliers to get it as straight as I can. Any wobble will cause a loss of some power so just be aware of that.

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
I used to run 2S and a GWS 8060 HD on my Cessna and it flew very well. It was always better with 3S, but the 2S was a good 2nd battery.

RE: The Big Aussie (SYD) Get Togethers (Group Fly)
It was a shame Gravity and I were the only two flyer's to make it out to Ermington. The weather wasn't too bad, sunny, light wind, and a golfer to dive bomb when you're out of control (if he really knew us he wouldn't have stood where he did). it was good making it back home with only breaking a prop, and I'm definately not standing in the big Radio Wave deflector (Baseball Net) again.

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
I had a good day out at Ermington today also. It was good bringing the Boomerang back in one piece. Mrs Toyman took some video of it and it is posted here, sorry the Boomerang is just a spot most of the time :(. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsbAs6GNoqc I was impressed with Gravity's flying, he did very well, even with coming in at Mach 1 for his last landing.

RE: Q. about elevators for Skyartec / Art-tech / Parkflyer Cessna 182 (pics) *help*
My Cessna has ended like this a few times. I just glued it back together with epoxy and added a few Carbon Fibre rods for strength. You should also tape up the wings and the front of the fuslage for strength...see the http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2199644/tm.htm thread for all the clues. You also may find it easier to go in one hole on the elevator and rudder.

I hope ABC isn't putting the 'mocka' (is that how its spelt?) on you you Mr K. I'll have the Boomerang ready to try again, along with my Edge which was hanging off the prop nicely in the wind today, I only wish I had some control of it..... I have the Tiger Moth 400 ready to go also, though it's outing isn't till later in the day as Mrs Toyman wants to see the TM

RE: GWS pico stick brushed/brushless conversion
I got told to use some 5min epoxy and let it get tacky, then put the hinge tape on it, that will make it never come off. I had to do the same CF mod to my Pico Stick when I built it as I went straight to 1530kV Outrunner and 1800mA 2S LiPo. It was still interesting watching the wings flex when pulling stunts.

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
I mounted my ESC behind firewall also. When I was testing with the 2408-21 and 8x6HD prop it got warm enough inside the Cessna that I could feel it through the foam so I cut a hole the size of a 20c piece in the underside of the fuslage behind where the servo's mounted to get more airflow.

Come visit our Art-Tech Cessna thread, most of us are running Brushless Outrunners now and have done all the hard work getting it right. And unlike some people we are glad to help :)

Yes, I bought MiniKatana's PA Katana Mini, though I'm not flying it till I get some practice on my Edge 540. That's if the wind/rain every stops. [Edit] Looks like I'm heading to Hammondville on Sunday morning, just hope the weather is OK.

Worse case scenario, you could always take a pic of it yourself and post it here. One of us could edit the pic, and as long as you can solder OK, you could modify the Tx to change Modes. you just have to promise to stop beating us at the Rugby, hehehe.

I've given mine away now as it was on 27MHz, but it did need the wires swapped to go to Mode 2.

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
It depends on the Transmitter. On my Hitec Optic 6 its just a matter of inserting a pin and setting Mode 2 in the programming. Other Tx's I've changed needed a spring and steel clip moved, and the wires swapped between the two pots. Not so easy for anyone not familiar with a solding iron.

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
Welcome to the world of 4 channel Cessna's. You use the rudder to steer on the ground and the ailerons to keep it level whilst climbing out. I only used to hand launch when the grass was too long for an ROG.

RE: Art-Tech 3Ch Cessna 182 RC Radio Control Plane
My last order from United Hobbies took almost three weeks and I've heard it took four for some others. A bit slower than the 6 days when they were small. I used to run a GWS 8060HD on my 2408-21 though I know Jaskel runs a APC 9x4.5E prop.

RE: The Big Aussie (SYD) Get Togethers (Group Fly)
After the demise of the Cessna I thought it might be a good time to resurect the corflute Edge. I got all the old HS-55's I had laying around, the 2408-21, ESC and Rx from the Cessna and set up the corflute Edge 540. I had to wait a few days for the wind to die down and this afternoon ROG'ed and into the air it went, flew one circuit and landed hard back in the carpark I took off from. I would have needed floats to land in the park :( . I had 60% ailerons which worked well, and I discovered it flies like a rock with no power on, so next time I'll keep a bit of power to land instead of my normal glide in and flare. The landing ripped the gear off, so the mount has been strengthened for tomorrow and maybe some video.

Glad to hear of your successful flight, just make sure you keep the speed up a little or don't turn too tight, and you'll be right. Andrew has visited here a couple of times, and I've heard others say he was very helpful, and talking to him at an electric fly-in he is a nice guy.
