RE: ECOMRC/YT Scottish Aviation Bull Dog
Hey DB, Your Bulldog looks great. I see you balanced your airplane at 100mm, ECOMRC calls out 147mm. Did you fly it at 147mm? Did you add weight to balance at 100mm? What surface throws did you use? Brian-

RE: RANT: The
It would be interesting to know how many units are actually sold. I have to assume it all comes down to the mighty dollar. Do you think they really sold thousands? Is there a customer or business base to stock parts? Do you think they (the manufacture) actually have a "spares" BOM when they produce a new product? If the spares program is to just break apart new kits, that's a problem. I understand it would go a long way for customer loyalty, but is it really cost effective.

RE: carbon cloth
Yeah, that's not a popular carbon product. I've seen uscomposites.com carry it in the past, but I don't see it now. Why do you want to use carbon? Anything under 3k is tough to find in carbon.

Tool Curing Temp?
I am going to use some pre-preg in a soft tool I've been using for a while. The tool is 30 layers of 3k using Aero O Poxy with a Cab O Sil tool coat. Also, I have added graphite powder to the tool coat to give it a black finish and help with the release. I have only used this tool for RT cures. My pre-preg needs to ramp up to 250F, has anyone used a fiberglass tool at this temp? If so what are your results? Thanks in advance! Brian-

RE: Source for lazer cutters for balsa
Skip, It's on the small side. If you will be cutting long fuselage sides or wing spars you would have a problem. Something else to look at, I see from the menu on the web site they list a fume extractor and air compressor as an option. You defiantly want the air compressor; it's used to keep the cutting area under the laser head clear. Also, you can vent the laser table to the outside air with a dryer vent hose, but a fume extractor works best, especially when cutting material that gives off smelly or toxic vapors. A shop dust extractor works well for this and is cheap. I looked at a lot of cutting equipment, the high end manufactures, like Gerber, offer some excellent machines. A machine to fit my needs with just a drag blade from Gerber started at $65k, the laser option was another $125k. There are a lot of Chinese machines for sale. One company I found shipped the unit to the closest seaport for you to pick up! I could just imagine what kind of warranty and repair I would get from these folks. I went with Jamison because it was affordable and all service and parts are stocked and shipped here in the states. I have had the cutter for a year and it works great. If I need a question answered, I always get an immediate answer. So far my cutter has "loved me long time" [;)]

RE: Source for lazer cutters for balsa
I purchased a laser system from Jamison Laser. I use it to cut balsa, lite ply and fiberglass. I can put a DXF on a thumb drive and load the cutter. If you build from plans or draw your own, it's worth the investment. Brian- http://www.jamiesonlaser.com/lasersys/index.htm

RE: Byron reduction drive on TF 1/5th P-51 Mustang models
I built a couple Byron P-51's back in the day. The first one was with the Quadra 35 and the last one was with a Mustang 50 motor, the prop drive was used on both. Both airplanes flew OK, they were not overpowered by any means. One issue I had with these was vibration, they would shake themselves to pieces. I ended up getting rid of the prop drive and going with direct drive. They did look cool!

RE: ASM F-7F Tigercat
I am just about finished with my Tigercat and I have a question to everyone that has been flying one of these kits. How does the fuselage hold up in hot weather? Does it deform at all? Does it get soft or loosen bulkheads? It can get close to 100*F here in the summer months and was just wondering if this bird will survive. Thanks, Brian-

RE: Pulling all ar7000 receivers out of my planes!!!
Hey Kurt, So if I get this right, you are getting rid of all of your AR7000 RX's because you had 1 failure in three years? Also you state you made a judgment call after the three years of history with only an engine failure and one set of led's not flashing? What do you think caused the potential problem? The main RX the satellite RX maybe the battery or switch harness? What kind of detailed testing or analysis did you do? I am not trying to flame you, but your description of what happened is so disjointed it just doesn’t make sense. Can you be a little more specific… Brian-
