RE: HL-Tiger 1: Lifting points
If you replace the airsoft gun and elevation with an aftermarket or custom servo option, it's easy to fix the rear lifting point. Just cut out the recessed area, make up a small styrene box to fit and install the lifting point in the correct position.

RE: Clark electronics TK20
ORIGINAL: MAUS45 I hear you, also wonder if the same group of tech's do the SLU's that fireman Tim carries?
I wouldn't be suprised. Hooben originally used electronics from the same manufacturer as the SLU and now they seem to have moved to the Clark gear. I've been waiting for two replacement T55 boards from Hooben for 6 months now and they have been explaining the delays by telling me they have been developing new electronics. It looks like this is it.

RE: Tank Museum message
I imported 8 T-55 kits with electronics and kept 1 for myself. I didn't have much trouble getting rid of the rest and only have left which I am holding back from sale until the faulty CPU is replaced.

RE: Non S&S HL tanks
I picked up a cheap non-S&S PIII and Pershing about 18 months ago for the bodies and they came with RX-13 electronics. Im not sure when they were manufactured but the PIII came with the new style of tank commander so I'm guessing they still use those old boards.

RE: Hooben t-55
One build was 100% stock and I've had no problems so far. My only additions were some minor details like fuel lines on the external tanks and headlight cables, etc. That said, I did have recoil issues that turned out to be a faulty CPU. I'm currently waiting for a replacement and haven't run the tank for more than a few hours in total so it is possible some issues will develop with more run time but nothing thats obvious yet.

RE: Hooben t-55
I didn't have any major issues with my T55 and it was the first kit I'd built since my early teens so anyone with a bit more experience shouldn't have too many problems at all. As has been mentioned, the parts need some cleaning up, some more than others. I didn't have any parts that were unusable and after looking at photos of some of the first kits I can only assume quality has improved. If you do have any broken, missing or poorly formed parts Hooben are very good with replacements and your dealer should be able to get them for the cost of postage. Internal space is limited so that might influence your choice of electronics. The Hooben (SLU) gear fits in just but doesn't leave much room for a decent speaker. You may want to also consider some weight at the front because the motors/gearbox makes the rear end hang low. That's about all that springs to mind at the moment but if I think of anything else I'll add another post. Enjoy the build, looking forward to seeing the finished product.

RE: Any movement in the Hooben camp?
I feel the same way. I thoroughly enjoyed building my T55 and while it was a challenging kit I am very happy with the results. My next kit will likely be an Elefant and while the Maus and E-100 don't interest me I was looking forward to their future releases so I hope they don't get out completely.

RE: Any movement in the Hooben camp?
I've had similar issues with T55 electronics and have been waiting months for replacements. Hooben have told me they are testing a new version and should have stock by the end of the month. It's frustrating but my understanding is the electronics used in their kits are made by the same manufacturer as the SLU. Has anyone had similar issues with those units?

No news on those two but they did email their distributors last week saying they are now stocking the AeroMate Tiger kit.

RE: T-55 variant help
It is a frustrating kit to build at times and I had the most issues with he turret as well. Stick at it, you'll get there in the end and as Maus45 said use reference photos ifin doubt. It does build into a very nice model and a very cool looking tank and I felt a real sense of achievement when I finished mine. I still have get around to weathering and detailing it but thats beside the point. [:-]

RE: The Comet ... what we need in 1/16!
The Walker Bulldog has always seemed like an odd choice to me for HL to release. From what I understand it saw service in Vietnam but mainly with the South Vietnamese and didn't get a lot of use with the US. Does anyone have any information on why HL went with a Bulldog?

RE: T-55 variant help
There were more T-55 built than any other tank and they are still in use today all over the world. I think you could build it to whatever configuration you like best and it would still be historically accurate.

He doesn't have a great name here in Australia either and as you can imagine the hobby is even smaller here. From your experience it appears Warwick has learnt nothing from his past issues.

I've dealt with Warwick in the past and been burned in a similar way as has a friend of mine. It sounds.ike you are getting the full Awesome Hobbies experience. [:D] Sure he's a nice guy and may have the best intentions but his business sense sucks.

RE: And Yet ANOTHER Sherman release??
Awesome Hobbies has a long history of misrepresenting products with incorrect photos and advertising products they don't have. I believe the prototype jagpanther thing was advertised as a Heng Long release and there was a major issue with non-existent cheap Tamiya kits a while back that I won't go into here. They do have some cool stuff on their site but I would be very cautious about buying from them and wouldn't trust any pictures on their website as being correct.

RE: Aweome Hobbies DOA?
I'd suggest contacting Warwick directly through the Hobby Havoc forum. http://www.hobbyhavoc.com/forum/index.php I'm not sure what's up with the website but they do have a fairly colourfull history so nothing would really suprise me.

RE: Unsightly recoil
RC Tanks Australia sells a $20 module that will eliminate the recoil and also has instructions on their forum to build one for yourself if youre handy with a soldering iron. They are about to release an updated module that will allow you to reduce the recoil effect or elimate it and also control a servo for gun barrel recoil. It looks like a Tamiya compatible IR module is also on the way: http://rctanksaustralia.com/shop/

RE: Hooben/Arkmodel Maus/E-100 release date?
This is the most interesting thread I have seen on this forum in a long time. I'm amazed it has gone three pages without degenerating into a Tamiya v HL debate or an "I wish someone would release a (insert obscure tank here)" thread like some many other discussions on here. Thanks to all who have contributed so far, a great read.

RE: Centurion tank footage
It sure would, a great tank with a proud service history. Ex Australian army centurions occasionally come up for sale in this country and a guy who lives close to me has one sitting in his farm shed but I haven't seen it move for a long time.

RE: Dedicated PC/Wii tank gaming
I'm not aware of anything for consoles but there is a Russian software house called Graviteam that makes some pretty cool tank games for PC. Steel Fury is set on the eastern front, Achtung Panzer is an RTS set in the same theatre and Steel Armor includes some post war conflicts. Their website is www.graviteam.com and the forums on simhq will point you in the direction of some nice mods and other goodies for them.
