PST Reaction ARF Airworthiness Directive #4
Subject: Reaction ARF Airworthiness Directive #4 Attention all Reaction ARF and Reaction X Owners, Most of you have probably seen the thread on RCU about a wing failure, probably caused by the leading edge seam opening up. As a precaution, PST has issued another Airworthiness Directive which basically makes it mandatory to add tape to the wing leading edges (if you haven't done it already). Here is the new AD from PST Jets: *********************************** Airworthiness Directive #3 - Issued June 2009 CANCELLED - Replaced with AD #4 Airworthiness Directive #4 - Issued July 2010 Replaces AD #3 Two customer-flown Reaction ARFs have exhibited a wing leading edge split resulting in crashes. The first jet was flown for more than 35 flights with 16kgs thrust turbine. The second one was moderately powered (P80) and had only five flights. The wings on these models may not have been bonded properly at the leading edge seam. As a precaution, all owners of the Reaction ARF are required to inspect the wing leading edge bonding and perform the following: 1. If a weak spot or splitting is found, seal the leading edge with Hysol or similar epoxy. 2. Place 1.5" (40mm) wide tape or stickers along the wing leading edge. Vinyl decal material, aluminum tape, or heavy-duty clear packing tape is acceptable. The above procedures are now considered mandatory will prevent leading edge from splitting in flight. Thank you for your attention and regards, PST Jets Thailand

RE: 600r starting
2 things: The O-Ring could be worn out and slipping: Replace or clean The starter bendix assembly could also be out of alignment: Check alignment You can crank the motor with 6-7.2V Pack. Cheers, B777

Hi Chippy, Have you calibrated the system? Doing an Auto+High Speed while the engine is running (Please see user manual for this process). This porcess will teach the ecu to learn about the new environment and calibrate the fuel pump accordingly. Regards, B777

Hi, Conversion involves Vaporizer tubes/combustion chamber and tail cone upgrade. Cost depends on the condition of the J600. You can contact PST directly indicating the engine serial number for more accurate quote. Cheers B777 [8D]

RE: Problem with PST600
Hi David, I think that you have the Infra-Red sensor and not the Hall Effects (magnetic). I'm not sure if we still have the Infra-Red sensors in stock. I will check. Changing the system to Hall Effects requires implantation of magnet in the turbine spinner. What is your J600 serial number? Regards, Kraivuth S. PST Jets

RE: PST Jets
Hi Jeremy, Good point and I will try the short nose option. However, current design requires zero nose ballast when 2 x 5-cells (Rx) and 2 x 6-cells (ECU) NiCds are used. Temporarily, I added about 100 grams of ballast to compensate for the unfinished cockpit/pilot. We are having a lot of fun with this bird...will add smoke soon...[;)]

RE: Reaction ARF - PST/BTE All-Composite Sport Jet
ORIGINAL: BruceTharpe I honestly don't know about their construction details and how the skin hinges are made. They look to have little black fibers running perpendicular to the hinge line - I figured those were little reinforcements/ripstops. We need some input from PST here...
Live hinge or skin hinge are made from special material. It is not just a mere crossed layered glass cloth. The material has very high strength in the pull and flapping movement which is very ideal for the applications. The hinging surfaces are joined with this material which is then layered over with glass cloth. Due to the in-mold paint application, its normal to see paint crack on the hinge line top surface after repetitive surfaces movement. This is just the top paint layer and does not affect the hinging material or strength. DO NOT attempt to rub the cracked paint off. High probability that incorrect technique will damage the hinging material. [8D]

RE: PST J1300 ECU,PLEASE HELP ME!!
The older TEMS needs a new software version where idle rev can be set to below 40K. You will need to send the TEMS to Bangkok for reprogramming. Starter Motor disengage rev is factory set and cannot be changed by the user. This rev is set to match our turbine. Please email pst@pstjets.com for further assistance. Regards, Kraivuth S.

RE: pst 1300 fadec upgrade w/new rpm sensor
The RPM sensor is universal and it should be mounted with the curvature matching with the turbine inlet. Fuse and Switch are no longer needed with the Fadec since the main power is switched on with the Rx power. You can use the switch and fuse if you want to. Cheers, B777
