How big could we make a Tank company? Just wondering.
With all of the Tanks out there now I was wondering if it would a rather a lark if we all sent in pics of our tanks and then someone try to match them up into the different companies or units that that tank belonged to. For example, I know there are Tigers built from Tunisia. Just wondering how big the units would be photo wise.

Slow but then again I like it that way. I tend to rush things and mess up. I'm ordering parts when I get to the point of needing them. that way I don't rush.

My Sherman Tank ... Maybe
I know many of you have seen the movie "Tank" with James Garner. I remember seeing it as a boy and was enthralled not with the acting but with the tank itself. So after much thinking and wondering I've decided to attempt to build the object of my fascination. Seeing the many builds and and pictures, which were very helpful, I now think I can do it. This is going to take some time. Wish me luck. to start with, I received my Mato Sherman today via UPS. Being the kid I am, I couldn't wait to put batteries in it and try it out. It ran pretty good. I loaded a few of the BB's and shot good dimples in the box it came in. After that I began the careful dis-assembly. I was able to remove all the electronics carefully without cutting any wires. Then removed the turret in one piece and fixed the gap on the left side by trimming off two little tabs. So now I have many parts. I await the arrival of many other parts but for now ... It has begun.

RE: My Sherman Tank ... Maybe
Been busy with work so not much has progressed. Took some time to watch the movie again but this time pay closer attention to the Tank's details. This has left me with some questions that maybe the more knowledgeable Sherman fans can help me with to separate fact from Hollywood. I've got some screen shots of the Tank to help. 1) The commanders hatch. In a recent picture I found a diagram of different turret configurations. Tank has a 1 piece hatch and no gunners hatch. The diagram does not show that configuration. The only thing I can think of is during the restoration by the characters in the movie they needed a hatch and were unable to find a split hatch and installed a 1 piece instead. 2)The applique armor plating in front of the driver and radio operator seems to be a box type assembly instead of just a plate welded to the front. 3) What is all that on the back of the turret? 4) Anyone know where I can get the gun travel lock?

RE: My Sherman Tank ... Maybe
I need to watch it again vrey soon myself. Well here it is another week and a little more has been done. Sorry for the slowness but I am figuring everything out as I go. I debated between going with the Mato rotation unit of the Tamiya one and opted for the Tamiya simply because it's what I'm more familiar with. I took two pieces of 1/8 hobby plywood and made a mounting plate for the rotation unit. Then using the E-6000 glues it in place withthe unit attach and the gear ring in place on the bottom or the turret. I sat two NiMI batteries on top of it to have constant pressure on the glue and waiting 24 hrs for it to set up. This stuff may take a little longer to fry but it is strong when it does. Then I primered the inside and then painted it white. Now it is time to start thinking about building the outside and the rest of the turret.

RE: My Sherman Tank ... Maybe
Thank you Herman. Things have slowed down for the moment enogh for me to begin working on the upper hull and turret. I finally got a metal ring for my turret mounting. 22g works great. First thing I did was mount the ring in place and let the adhesive set before notching out for the little tabs on the turret ring. I've also been working on my turret. I have a Tamiya turret and a Nick Aguilar turret. I am gonig to build both of these up so that I can change back and forth as I feel like. Still need to do some finishing work on the bussel but I'm pretty pleased with how it is shaping up.

The first picture is of two Marine Corps field packs with bed rolls circa 1944? A P-41 pack system? The second picture is of a Sherman kit piece I believe to help make it 2 channel operational?

RE: sherman pic
Is it me or is that picture backwards and we are actually looking at the RHS of the Sherman. The reason I ask is because I am working on a Sherman and any picture I can see clearly of that period is a great help to me.

RE: SNFF 2012 01 08
It's because of Yellowshaker, Green Amphibian, and YHR that I started working on another Sherman. Been a bit frustrating with the suspension on my Sherman "Tank". The first on I took apart to prime and paint sort of flew apart when one of the springs leapt out. Haven't found where it went yet but hopefully soon I will. I've substituted a different spring and hopefully will be ok but the lower hull is built ... for now.

RE: My Sherman Tank ... Maybe
Now with the arrival of the Mato metal VVSS suspension. Priming and painting has begun. Knowing my tendency to loose small parts, Im dis-assebling each bogey and bagging the small parts to prime and paint each one ... one at a time. It's slow but better than me misplacing the tiniest screw and being stuck.

RE: My Sherman Tank ... Maybe
Thank you Everyone for the encouragement. Now that Holidays are over, it's time to get back to work. Still waiting for some needed parts to continue but in the meantime I've been studying the lower hull and the fit with the upper hull. I noticed the the wings of the lower hull extended further out to the sides than I liked. So with time on my hands and watching Star Trek Deep Space 9 episodes via an online movie website, I trimmed the wings approx. 4.25mm and trimmed the front mounting of the upper hull about 1/8th inch. The wings are now hiding under the hull and more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I will post more as I progress. I'm am going slow with this simply because I'm trying building methods I'm not experienced with and feel ready to try.
