RE: Looking for R.C. field
Thanks a lot (again ) for your prompt answer. I'm planning a trip to cape coral to check housing around. I fly aerobatics but my preference is scale and kit buiding, I'm not too much into ARF's I like my models sturdy and relaible, even this means they come a little bit in the heavy side. Actually I'm a member of the Aeromodelrs of Perrine. Hope to see you soon!

RE: Powering up a Ryan
OOPPPSSSS! Sorry I forgot those important details. Here they are.... wingspan: 49 in. wing area: 401 sq. in. weight: 3 pounds ( I assume this is with all the equipment installed). I ran moto wizard and this is what came out of the program Great planes rimfire motor 35-36-1500 (also 1000 and 2000). Does this help? Bolt

Powering up a Ryan
Hi there! I'm a "wet fuel" pilot trying to learn something about electrics. I bought some time ago (years?) an G.P. Ryan STA EP (I'm a kit builder). I would like a good motor (brushless?), ESC, and battery for it, something that really moves the little ship. Any suggestions? I'm reading all the material I can get my hands on but I need this model completed in a hurry. thanks!!!!

RE: Basics about electric flight
Thanks a million Doc now I have some ground under my feet to start working. You addressed my concern right on target when you said "...get a moderate reduction of cost in the package deal, and moderate quality equipment. " that's exactly the same situation I have experienced with gas powered models. You find a good airplane and read that will fly with a .46 when experience tell you that it won't take off with something less than a .60 !!! There is a lot of misinformation out there. So, here I go !!!!!! Thanks !!!!!!

RE: Basics about electric flight
Thanks for your prompt respond Dr. Kiwi! But I noticed that this information is for the big (1.20) ARF. The one I have is the small electric powered version of the same plane. This is the G.P address to the Ryan: http://www.electrifly.com/largeelectrics/gpma0165.html Are there some magazines or books that you could recommend me? I think this will be a self-education endeavour. Bolt

Basics about electric flight
First let me tell you, I'm a glow engine pilot with lot of experience under my belt on building kits, but this thing about Kv, ESC, balanced chargin, etc. proves to be a little confusing for me. From what I know (and it's not too much) is that the motor, ESC, and batteries shuld be carefuly matched for maximum performance. Abour invesment, I've told to put my money in the ESC system (bigger is better) and not to worry to much about expensive motors. Also that Lipos are better than NiMH batteries ( and that they have the bad habit of blowing up burning your house down). I ust need a good source that provides me with the information I need to learn how to put together my systems. I have a G.P. Ryan STA EP but I was told to forget about geared motors and NiCad baterries for it (they are too heavy). See what I mean? Any help? Thanks

Servos for a Ryan STA EP
I'm about to start building a Great planes Ryan STA EP. It will fly with an Electrifly S-600 reverse ferrite motor. This is a 7.2-8.4 volts. Also I have an Electrifly GD-600 2.5:1 ratio gear drive. Now this is my question, Can Hitec HS-55 servos enough for this plane? This is a 49 in. wingspan (401 sq. in), model that will weight aprox. 3 lbs. I'm new into electric but I'm very experienced in glow models (11 of them!!!). Any help?

RE: Hangar 9 P-40 Warhawk
Ok, thanks to da Rock here are the pictures you asked for. This is the first time I send pictures so please be patient if they don't come out the way they should. One picture is about the tail wheel. I wanted a more to-scale apperance and that wire coming out from the rudder wasn't a good idea. The second picture is my flap modification. I have many pictures of P-40 on final and those flaps look impressive. They were copied from the Top FLite P-40 (which I still have in the box). there are five servos in the wing, 2 ailerons, 2 flaps, and one for the retracts (CJ).

RE: Hangar 9 P-40 Warhawk
The name you are looking is Rudy Frasca of Urbana, Illinois. I can give you the FS color codes for it Tan - FS30219 Green - FS34102 Grey - FS36622 If you are not familiar with these number they belong to the Federal standard color chips. you can acces them at http://www.fed-std-595.com/FS-595-Paint-Spec.html. I know this model. I'm building mine with a Keleo custom made exhaust system, a complete (main and tail) retract system by Century Jet models, and a full cockpit interior.

Hi Larry, When the Hitec servos are replaced with JR 8611A, all servos involved are digital, the system works fine. The extensions are 12 inch JR heavy duty.
