RE: Military colors only at warbird meets?
I once flew a Cap 10b in Morrocan Air Force colours in a military scale competition. The Morrocans used them as trainers. It was frowned upon by some fellow competitors who told me so, but the rules said "military aircraft" so it was eligible. Funnily enough I returned to the same comp a couple of years later to find one of the local club members flying the same model. On my return I flew an SNJ which performed the same role ie, trainer as the Cap 10b but no-one questioned it. If you hunt around there have been a few air forces use Pitts and Extras for their formation aerobatic teams, do these qualify?

RE: Military colors only at warbird meets?
So if you were to allow Miss America, a relatively stock Mustang, do you allow the likes of Dago Red or Red Baron or some of the Sea Furies that have been heavily modified in appearance as well as power? I think Mis America is questionable but I really think that the heavily modified machines are no longer "warbirds". They do not exist to pay tribute to those that served in or trained for conflict, they exist to race.

RE: ESM electric retracts?
ESM dealer here in Oz is advertising G3 electric retracts. Can anyone tell us if they have got / setup / used a set of G3's. Please share your experience. I am about to pull the trigger on the Trojan and weighing up air v electric. I don't want to have to use foam wheels if that is all the electrics can lift. I do however like the idea of not having to deal with air.

RE: That nasty AT-6 Bounce
I really don't belive that reducing your flap will eliminate the bounce. If you reduce the travel from the 50 degrees you are at, you will reduce drag and increase lift. The increase in lift is not going to help keep it on the deck. I do agree that moving your landing gear back will help, bouncing is a side effect of having the gear too far forward.

RE: That nasty AT-6 Bounce
Ahhh, the T-6 Tango! I got my 90" SNJ cheap because the guy who built it could not master it. I flew the beast for 8 years and found it a dream to land as long as you landed it how it wanted to be landed. My approach was lots of flap ( at least 60 degrees ) - a split flap creates alot more drag than a conventional flap, especially at high angles of deflection. That required lots of power to keep it flying. This meant lots of airflow over the tail which maintained positive elevator control. The drag of the flap meant that the airspeed was not that fast despite the power. I always wheel landed it, pulling the power just off the ground, with the massive amount of flap I used this meant that the airspeed disappeared rapidly and she would sink gently to the ground. No flare, no hold-off, no letting go of the elevator, just do nothing and it would settle all by itself. Start trying to fiddle with it or work it and that's when the T-6 Tango began. I also found that it reduced the tendency to nose over if I pulled the flaps up as soon as it was on the ground. Persist with it and you will get it, don't be like the guy who built mine and sell it off cheap in frustration. Good Luck

RE: pica or top flight p-51
ORIGINAL: 91zulu This is the Pica P51, look at the nose, then look at the TF nose. How ever the kit is a lot of work, a builders kit.
The Pica must be a huge amount of work. That would be why I still have not finished the one I started in 1998!!! That I have barely worked on it in years would have nothing to do with it.[:)][:D] Not alot of info on retract fitting on the Pica plan, you will most lilely have to do a bit of re-designing in this area to suit whatever retracts you choose. I do believe the Pica will be a more accurate model when I eventually get it done.

It is not much different to the Top Flite in size and comes out of the box with the color scheme that you want. There are a couple of build threads here about that model.

Gas Tank Setup?
What is everyone using for the clunk line inside their gas tanks? Tygon goes hard after time submerged in gas & I am wondering if this will cause problems in a IMAC type model? Or should I be using something else?

RE: Help IDing This 101
I had a 90" Texan with home made retracts. I bought it second hand with some minor damage to the airframe. The retracts were done very differently to yours, used electric motors and a worm drive. They would have been brilliant if the model weighed about 18#, but it weighed 23#. The retracts were the achilles heel of this model. In the 8 years I flew it I spent more time with it out of service due to retract problems than it did active. I had to be really picky about where I would fly ( we mostly fly off grass in Oz ), would not even fly it from my home field. I even did damage on take off on one strip. The model landed really easy but anything less than perfect caused damage. Then it was such a pain to repair as I don't have a lathe or mill to make replacement parts. Unfortunately the structure was built around the design of the retracts and to convert to Robarts or similar would have taken a major rebuild of the wing centre section. After 8 years of hassles I gave up and retired the model. Do yourself a favour and change it now before you get too far with the project. Good Luck.
ORIGINAL: Ron101 Got my aces of Iron pilot painted up today Then hinged my rudder and epoxied on the stabs
Epoxied on the stabs? The orignial ridgeback version had a removable stab, is that not the case on this one? I found it really handy to be able to take the stab off for transport. For a decent size model it becomes pretty compact with a 2 piece wing and removable stabs. Great job on painting the pilot!

RE: New JR DMSS Radios Announced
I have recently bought the XG11 and so far a couple of days flying in a small electric warbird has proven fault free. A couple more sessions in the cheap model then I will move it into a 50cc aerobatic model. Up until getting this I have been using a 10X for the last 11 years on 36MHz ( Aussie equivilent to 72MHz ). I was never convinced with the JR / Spektrum half breed concoctions that have been available. I have been wating some time for JR to release a 100% their own system. So how has anyone else found this new system? How about posting some operational experience?

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
Hopefully the XG11 will only do a short stint in the Foamy Jug, then if all is OK it will move on to a 30% MXS-R in Matt Hall's colours that I am close to finishing. It's a BARF from Peak Models that I bought on an impulse. Turned out to be a piece of cr@p that I have spent way to long modifying and fixing up to make something decent of it. After all that work it had better fly OK[:@]. Have finally got a good wokshop set up. Once the MXS-R is done I will get back onto the Robart P-47 which has been in storage since leaving Bundy 18 months ago.

RE: TF GS P47 Build - yeah another bloody one!!
Hey Pete, The Tiggy looks the part. The long scarf on the pilot reminds me of one I put on the pilot of the Liberty Sports that I scratch built off the Sig plan while I was at school. The really long scarf started to fray pretty quick so I put a stop to that by wicking some zap into the end and then made a new clean cut, I thought it turned out really neat. Went and flew it and the zap hardened tip dented the sh*t out of my turtle deck - [>:][:(][>:] Weather permitting I will be test flying a small foam leccy P-47 tomorrow, using it to test run the new JR XG11 radio that I got a couple of weeks ago - late 40th birthday pressie! Good Luck with the Tiggy maiden.....

RE: ROBARTS ZIROLI 92
Hi Sam, Re the unglued engine box, a mate of mine who has had one of these in service about the same time as yourself has had the same problem. He also had servo mounts come off the back of the firewall. His conclusion was that the resin used to fibreglass the firewall as supplied is not compatable with most glues we are using. Based on this advice I have glued and screwed all items that I have attached to the firewall. Unfortunately my part built Robart Jug has been in storage for 18 months now due to moving town & house a couple of times. Hopefully it will come out in the next few months and work will recommence. Cheers Mick

RE: Why not transport your fully assembled aircraft to the field?
I don't see a problem with carrying a model on top of the car the way Ticketec is with his FW, up there the model is is relatively clean air. However the back of the pick up is a concern. The air there is very turbulent. I can only think of when I carry my dog in the back of my ute ( that's a pick up to you Americans ), his hair is blowing all over the place, not just straight back as it would if the air was clean. When I was a kid of about 10 years, my Dad had a model of an Avro 504K, which is a double bay biplane, it had funtional bracing wires and was very time consuming & fiddley to assemble. He used to transport in on a small open box trailer with conections to the undercarriage to hold it in place. One day he thumped it in after a deadstick and busted the undercarriage off. So guess who had to sit in the trailer holding onto the model for the trip home! These days you would get shot for making your kid ride in a trailer for a 10 mile trip through Canberra ( Australia's capitol city ). I just know with my luck if I tried any of these methods I would have a permanent rain cloud following me all the time!
